    Looking forward to the next installation of this adventure mate. 👍 Your remark about having an apprehension to stopping the engine whilst alone is a good policy and I can attest to that with empirical knowledge. A few years back I headed out from the township of 1770 to Lady Musgrave Island (See the trip on my KZread channel) on an almost brand new Yamaha VX Cruiser Waverunner. I spent several wonderful days on the island and left to head back to the mainland in fairly rough conditions that shortly thereafter blew up into extremely rough seas which I will never forget as long as I live! After passing under an enormous thunderstorm with stabbing lightning all around and in slightly calmer conditions only 10 or so km from shore I almost stopped the engine to take a leak off of the back of the ski but decided to press on as I'd be back to shore in no time if I gunned it. I arrived home in the early hours of Sunday morning and being a little anal and considering the ski had been moored for four days in salt water I decided to give the engine a quick flush before going to bed. I connected the hose, turned it on, and hit the starter button and nothing! Being late, I decided to go to bed and deal with this the next day. Upon inspection I discovered the wiring loom from the handlebars where it exits the steering column had been severed from vibration against the sharp inside edge. Had I of stopped the engine I would have been in all sorts of trouble and there's no way out at sea and in extremely rough conditions would I be able to diagnose or fix this. Take care out there.

    Enjoyed your video - the island looks amazing! Would love to do that trip! Glad you made it home safe. If you did stopped the engine and couldn't restart, would you have had phone/VHF reception to the mainland or is it flare/EPIRB time???

    Mate that's very brave. I camped on Lady Musgrave for a week in the late 90's, got there via a sightseeing cruise from Bundaberg and that was a 90 minute trip. Seas were rough on the way out and many of us got quite ill. I'd have never envisaged getting out to Musgrave via PWC and I'd never have the balls to do it by myself because there's often not a lot of other marine traffic out there, especially when conditions get rough or there's a nearby cyclone. Kudos to you for doing that because that shows great faith in your equipment. Yep, the sea can get pretty rough out there! Great story and thanks for sharing.

    @@JetSkiCamping How many hours do you expect to get out of your unit? I don't own one yet but was surprised to here many skis have like a 300 hour lifespan....that seems so low!

  • @JetSkiCamping

    @JetSkiCamping

    Gee good question Craig! It’s hard to answer... If you’re only using your ski once a month over summer it could take 20+ years to reach 300 hours alternatively I’ve seen rental skis accumulate 300 hours in less than 12 months. If you look after and maintain a ski I can’t see why it couldn’t last 15 years or more, especially if it’s stored indoors.
