    I'm so very Proud of my Afro-Puerto Rican ROOTS! Great video. Thanks for sharing. I was born in PR, raised in the US but my parents made sure we knew our culture. WE weren't allowed to speak English at home and we knew all about Bomba y Plena and much of our Puerto Rican History. WE are beautiful in culture- AFRICAN- TAINO- SPANIARD!!!!

    Puerto RIcan culture is very heterogenous. I enjoy all of its cub cultures, but to be honest, this is not the culture of many puerto ricans, like those in the central mountains who are descendants of canarians and whose music is música jíbara. We value all of it but we also value our diversity.

    Actually the drummer leads... it's a dance between the drummer and the dancer. Men can also dance "with" the drummer

    @@SG483 actually the dancer leads, the main drummer called "primo" is following the dancer's improv. A dancer comes to the front and when she/he salutes the primo, (you can see it in 01:15) it's on and drummer follows dance. It's a game to see if the primo can follow the dancer's movements with the beat.

    Lo que no saben: NO ES : "BOMBA Y PLENA" 1.Son dos géneros distintos aunque tenga origen de música africana. 2. La bailadora es la que le marca el ritmo al primo tambor. 3. Existen tres variantes de bomba: Holandés, no me acuerdo si los otros se llaman Güembé, francés o sicá.

    It means Agua......which means (water) and Nile which is in Africa. So it basically means water from the Nile. No matter what variation of the word is used......that's what it means.
