I can listen to Iverson and Shaq all day long.
Today's NBA Player: " I'm posed to be the franchise player and yall sittin' here talking about playing in a regular season game! Not the playoffs, we talkin' about a regular season game, c'mon man!"
Watching the full 30 minute "practice" interview really makes it clear the media did Iverson dirty then. While remaining a funny soundbite, it was very easy to understand where he was coming from.

Shaq will always find a way to justify not being in top shape. He was great but he never took his conditioning or health seriously
@trevinhickman9022

In principle I understand your stance indeed, but Shaq in to out of shape was still effective and he did win a championship 🏆 without Kobe. Iverson man that dude broke every mold. Single handedly got the Sixers to the Finals. In HS he was an all state QB too and unlike Bryce Young I believe homeboy could have handled the NFL punishment. The " practice" interview was the iconic bit of the 2000's. Also Shaq, btw this podcast is up there with the Kelce's, was absolutely unstoppable force of nature and if Riley said that the powers that be should take his coaching/GM card away and burn it.

The current science confirms that stretching before exercise is not necessary. And the importance of rest for players who play a lot of minutes during the season is understood now, especially for 7 footers who put more stress on their joints like Shaq. So the irony is that AI and Shaq were right, and the expert opinion and old school coaching in the 90s was wrong.

100% on not stretching before exercise. I always just walk for like 5-10 minutes and that’s the best thing ever
@jakestine4753
3 ай бұрын
Stretching prior to warm ups is actually dangerous. Warming up is important. Don't just jump into sprints. Walk around a bit, get your heart rate up, THEN hit the sprints. Stretching? Only positive effect it has is help get your heart rate up, same as walking or light shoot-around. Stretching has no other benefit, and has risks because it can cause small tears in the muscle fibers that don't have a chance to heal before gametime. The ONLY good time to do stretching is AFTER the game - when your goal is to break up muscle scar tissues and generate blood flow to clear away lactic acids to aid in the recovery process.
@MrMagnaniman

Nice to hear their side of the story about practice and not getting into shape.
I Never stretched i always thought it would take my abilities to walk in the sky 🌙 away. 0 injuries
It was very unfortunate for AI not to win a NBA Finals Ring before he retired
I never had a problem with his rant at the time. Guy played every game and put up 30 points on a regular basis. His attendance in practice was between him and his coach. If only superstars today made it a priority to be on the floor as much as he was. I don't care what they do in practice.
In terms of free throws and 3 pointers, maybe Shaq should have "practiced".
Could have been worse, I was in a drunken foot race and fell 5 steps into it and tore my AC joint😂
He kinda looks like martin lawrence.... never noticed that.
Did we just become bestfriends!?...... That just happened!!!
The questions about practice were an attempt to compare AI to the likes of MJ and Kobe, who were known to be first to show up to… practice.

He’d would have played 5 years. Kobe admits he practiced and didn’t sleep enough and regretted it. He also admitted Shaq was too big, got too beat up during games to practice like him. Shaq needed to rest between games and heal in the off season. He gained weight so David Robinson, t duncan, kg, morning, big country, Hakeem couldn’t push him off the block.

@captainspirou

@@AwnPoynt - specifically static stretching does help with flexibility but studies have shown that it can weaken muscles and are more prone to injury. It’s better to do static stretching at the end of a workout. @jimdino77 is correct about dynamic stretching and I’ve often done that before playing tennis.
