There is something uniquely appealing about the Allegro. Cute, quirky and proud are words that spring to mind. Bravo to all the Allegro owners for keeping them going and looking so good. Thanks for sharing.

I couldn't believe it when Peggy's almost identical twin turned up! No surprise to anyone, I imagine, but I would absolutely love to drive an E-Series engined Allegro too. Some fine examples of them there too.

I remember in 1974 my Father (Manager of design and engineering at Vanden Plas) bought the only road going example of the 1500 (The press car) home and we went for a drive in it :-) (VDP74N)

I didn't know there were still so many of 'em about.

A friend of mine had an Allegro in the late 70's and it seemed fine to me. I drove it once and it was quiet and comfortable, and even the looks weren't bad (from some angles)! I think BL cars get a bad rap sometimes (although the Marina was a bit of a stinker).

The Marina was not a stinker - It did the job it was designed to do to be a cheap reliable fleet car as well as family car as well and it sold well and was top seller at some points also. You did have to watch the back end in the wet - the Mk2's were much better with uprated anti-roll bars and there were cars that were worst for losing the back end such as the Capri/Mk3 Cortina. The Mk2 1978 Marina 1.8 HL/TC that I owned was an excellent reliable and fast car in its day and I used to drive that car fast and hard all the time and it took it no problem and I am still here today as well contrary to the rubbish people spouted about the handling etc. The Allegro was a far superior car but then again it was designed to be and the Allegro Equipe that I had was an excellent and reliable car as well and was also fast as well and was a nice looking car and I always had people looking at it and in it every time I came back to it when it was parked with people asking me about it because even back then not everyone knew that these cars existed - you do not get that with many "normal" cars. It was the wheels that spoilt most Allegros with those old fashioned hub caps on most of them back then - they looked much better with the Equipe alloys that many wear now or the Mk3 wheel trims.

Good vid.Of my age and a car mad youth BL cars in all their variety were staple .Fords always impressed me more but BL somehow represented the average working man as did Ford.The SD1 is still a car that stands out as the dogs dangly bits.(Just never ever mention panel gaps and shutlines on any BL car to their proud owner)

Get a Maxi. Serves as a car and an estate all in one. 👍

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!
