It’s pretty cool that Chris Mason got credited with a goalie goal for the Predators and then he was on the TV call for Pekka’s goal last night. It makes the Preds the only NHL organization to ever have two goalies score.

ULLMARK JUST MADE HISTORY!!!!!!
Kudos to all these guys, but special kudos to Theodore for hitting the 200 footer with a backhand! Holy mackerel!
An honorable mention to Mike Smith who put it 5 hole at the skills competition in the 2017 All Star Game. What a legend!!!
Ron Hextall, Chris Osgood, Martin Brodeur, José Théodore, Evgeni Nabokov, Mike Smith, and Pekka Rinne are in one of the most elite clubs in the NHL. They are the only goaltenders in the entire history of the NHL to ever directly score a goal by shooting the puck on net.

Brodeur’s stick handling is so impressive
Brodeur's third one is funny because the other goalie had not yet left the ice (actually tried to get back and stop the puck), so it wasn't credited as an empty netter.
I play hockey myself and yet I only found out about this from today's episode of "Wonderful!". Griffin was right, Martin Brodeur's 4ft vertical leap celebration is just as wholesome as I hoped it would be.

They basically do a video like this on almost every instance of a goalie scoring because it's so rare.
In 1987 Bob Froese of the Rangers was credited with a goal against the Islanders for about a week until the league reviewed video and concluded that Rangers defenseman Dave Shaw last touched the puck before the Islanders Brent Sutter sent it down ice into the Islanders net. But for a few days Froese had a goal... This set off a bit of a stir where the press started prodding goalies and speculating which goalie had the ability to actually shoot and score a goal on an empty net... In turn some NHL, AHL and at the college level all started taking liberties and began shooting down ice late in games. Darcy Wakaluk of the Sabres scored in the AHL a couple of days after the NHL wiped out Bob Froese’s goal. The press basically turned its focus on the Flyers Ron Hextall to score a goal as he had the best stick handling skills in the league and was known for throwing pucks into the opposing end... A few days later Hextall took 2 shots against Boston and met the challenge with the first modern day legit goal scored by an NHL goalie... But for about a week in December ‘87 you’d be crazy not to watch a game until the very end when fans would start roaring for the goalie to shoot any time he touched the puck with an empty goal about 200 feet away.
A goalie goal is probably my favourite thing in hockey. Too bad they're so rare. But I guess that's part of what makes em so special 😊

Yes, that is risky doing it in the playoffs.
You can see how much hockey has changed. In the older clips you can see the opposing team still cheer for the goalie but when Pekka Rinne scored people started walking out or booing or just sitting there like idiots not realizing that something special has happened.
I love how half of them can choose to literally lift and fly the puck down past center sometimes the other blue line it is unreal but oh man they do it
These goalie goals are so cool
Description: “Martin Brodeur is the only netminder to do this twice” [2nd and 3rd clips of the video are both Ron Hextall]
Seeing goalies happy, makes me happy 🥲
Jose Theodores celly tho. I love it
The reaction from the announcer about Martin Brodeurs goal is almost unforgettable to me.
I'm most excited to see all the goalies attempt to score a goal for the next few weeks. 😂
If this is ever done at The Rock by an opposing tendy, you know damn well I’m given him a standing o. Can’t not acknowledge something like this.

I think they mean regular season vs playoffs, Marty got 2 regular while hextall only had 1 in regular
Kinda crazy two Devils-Canes games, both in Raleigh and less than two years apart, had goalie goals. I was at the one for Ward's goal. The only bummer about it was they did originally credit the goal to Brandon Sutter, which you can hear the announcers wondering about in the clip. It was only afterward that they changed it to Cam. But it was too bad they didn't get to announce Cam's name on the PA and everything; building would've gone nuts.
The Gene Hart call of Hextall’s goal was amazing but when he scored the 2nd goal his call of that one was better then do u believe in miracles call by Al Michaels
I think Igor Shesterkin might be next on this very elite list of goaltenders providing their own offensive contribution to the scoresheet !!
I like how the Blackhawks fan behind Rinne at the end is gesturing like "Are you f***ing kidding me?"
I was actually watching the game Rinne scored Jumped up so high
Mike Smith and The Coyotes with the Goalie Buzzer Beater was amazing, hell, The Bright Blue Spotlight was back on the Goal Scorer (Smith) who did it! (It's rare for the Coyotes to ever have a spotlight on a goal scorer, except for that goal, their days at America West and the Shane Doan retirement year.
LETS GO RANGERS!!! 🔵🔴⚪️

@@ddark091 lol Marty s reaction
So is Brodeur the only goalie to score a goal while the opponent's goalie was still on the ice? It wasn't his most impressive one since he didn't shoot it, but it's still a pretty wild stat.

Igor Shesterskin of the New York Rangers almost added himself to this list this week.
Why were these goals included? Billy Smith vs Colorado Martin Bodeur vs Philadelphia Mika Noronen vs Toronto Chris Mason vs Phoenix Cam Ward vs NJ Devils Martin Brodeur vs Carolina They didn't score the goal, they were credited with the goal when opposing players put the puck into their own goal with an errant pass, etc.

Because last player to touch the puck IS the goal scorer always.
8 shots on goal, 7 awarded own goals. Marty Brodeur with 3, 1 sog, 2 awarded . Ron Hextall with 2, both sog, 0 rewarded.
Golie Goals are sick AF
To me Smiths is the best because of the timing and composure with seconds left
I love how NJ did the same thing twice in two years against the same team

It was more like a team did it against them and then they did it against that team.
5:42 it looks like the Carolina player touched the puck with his stick on the NJ own goal.
This is the NHL equivalent of linemen scoring touchdowns
Imagine if Mike Smith’s hadn’t beaten the buzzer and you were the ref who had to tell everyone that it didn’t count
Barrasso is still best scorer with 48 pts (0+48) in regular seasons 2. Brodeur 47 (2+45) 3. Fuhr 47 (0+47) in play-offs 1. Fuhr 14 (0+14) 2. Brodeur 13 (1+12) 3. Roy 11 (0+11)
Pekka Rinne is too good right now.
Goalie scoring a Goal ! GOL ! ! !
Everytime I see these things I remember old days of D2 the Mighty Ducks when Russ Tyler used the knuckle Puck as a goalie to score
Yeah Ozzy!! 🐙
In the first clip the commentator shows no expression when the goalie scores
Hextall still has the most legit goals.
Being in Vancouver, I'm embarrassed to see Nabakov also scored an empty netter against Canucks right in Vancouver like Ullmar did
["Too good right now" intensifies]
Honestly they should make it open net goalie shots on net only
NHL: "Martin Brodeur is the only netminder to [do] so multiple times." Also NHL: posts 2 clips of Hextall scoring goals

Whoever wrote that little synopsis of the video really stinks at their job (NHL's official KZread page??). Brodeur only scored one goal himself, the other goals were credited to him because he was the last Devils player to touch the puck before the other team put it in their own net. Hextall is the only goalie to score multiple times by actually shooting the puck.
