All the Good Times are Past and Gone - Walk Through and Demo

Here's a fun song in 3/4 time (waltz time). I've not really covered 3/4 time before, so this may ne something new for you. Take your time with it. Get the roll pattern down, then jump back to the tune.

Great song! It will be interesting trying a new roll. Also, I would love it if you did a video for Turkey in the Straw. ☺

My friend, I have learned a lot from your videos. I thank you greatly for sharing. I would really love to learn a Sonny Osborne tune called Siempre. If you know that one and can post a lesson on it that would be great. Thanks again!

Just started on your Bluegrass Banjo Lessons and saw this. Wondering if the Tennessee Waltz would be done similar to this count. Thanks!

The Tennessee Waltz is slower, but you can use that roll pattern, though I generally play it more as a single string type piece - might make a good video in the future.

Thank you for this lesson, Jim! Good to see you uploading frequently again. And I have a question: do you often play and sing? Cause I've been trying to get the hang of that since september and I've done some good progress, but most banjo players I look up to don't sing at all.

I guess I've always sung. It's not something I really practiced, but I tend to keep the banjo playing simpler when I'm singing - less to think about.

Jim! Why when I play Foggy Mtn. Breakdown it sounds choppy when I hit the strings? It doesn't cause me trouble with other tunes. Any ideas? Thanks Jim.

If you're aware of the choppiness, then really slow it down and focus on those bits. You'll figure it out, I'm sure of it.
