All The Basses 012: Rickenbacker 4002 Bass // Serek Basses
Музыка
All the Basses is a project dedicated to showcasing some of the perhaps lesser known basses of years gone by. I do not claim to be a bass historian, I merely want to highlight some of the more interesting aspects of these instruments, and to showcase their tonality.
I am a Rickenbacker fan-boy, always have been. This 4002 was owned by my friend and musical brother Ryan Brady. I dedicate this video to his memory.
Signal chain: Bass - Quilter Bass Block 800 - Scarlett 2i2 / mic'd Aguilar SL-112.

Ben Hall from Rickenbacker here. I sold Ryan that bass and had the pleasure of showing him around the factory before he passed. He sent me a nice postcard with a thoughtful "thank you" message on the back. Class act, I was shocked when I heard about his death a few months later. This is a very nice tribute, thank you for posting. I was wondering what happened with his bass and I'm happy you have it Are those HB1's or hot toasters by the way? I don't remember.

If you used the standard 4003 pickgaurd and triangles on the would buy two! Dot markers on the fretboard are ugly and low class!
Very very sweet, you can tell how much you miss him. Lovely words, Jake. Sorry for your loss ❤
Thank you for sharing the story and the beautiful bass. You have honored your friend well.
I never thought I'd shed tears during an All the Basses segment. Thank you for sharing this story with us; I think we all could use a Ryan to prop us up now and again. It sounds like it was an immense loss for a lot of people.
Thanks for sharing the story and way you were inspired. I just lost a similar bass mentor who I idolized and who also treated me kindly when shooing me away would have been easier and justified. I am still mourning and needed to hear this.

Sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing as well!
The relationships we have with people on our musical journey can be profound and life changing- more important than the music we happen to be drawn to initially. Sometimes we're lucky to meet the right people at the right time! Great story and lovely bass
Great story and demo.
Can't wait to own a serek bass. I'll keep it forever and pass it on to my kids
I have an original 1980 4002 in the darker (walnut) finish with the checkered binding, mono, stereo & low impedance output jacks. I was fortunate enough to be shown the bass before it was taken out onto the sales floor in our local music shop, and although I didn't feel I could afford the bass, I snatched it up and the store owner was gracious enough to let me make payments. In 1980 I was 19 years old and not making much money at all. 43 years later it is still my most cherished instrument by far. My 4002 does not sound like your 4002. I could be a difference in pickups, or it could be your recording process for this video. Regardless, they both are incredible basses. I have never seen one like yours. It is beautiful. Congratulations!
looking dapper friend! beautiful story, beautiful bass. thank you so so much for sharing.
Bass, story and song are all amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, great story. Sorry for the loss of your friend. I really want that bass. So cool looking and sounding.
So much love ❤️❤️
This is a kind of a Graal. It looks gorgeous and sounds just as good as you. Nice nice nice!!!
Such a cool bass. It's really weird seeing a Rickenbacker shape and hearing a P/J-Bass-esque sound.
What a beautiful story, Jake! One day, I will own a Serek bass! Fell in love since that Incubus video brought me to your channel.
Amazing story. Must have been an amazing friend to have. Nice bass, too!
Great tribute, Jake

Yes! No one got this on instagram, but I offered a free shirt to the first person to get it. E-mail me your shirt size and shipping address if you want a shirt (serekbasses@gmail)
how didd u get the tones for the chorus dist/fuzz? is it chorus b4 dist or otherway round?

I usually put chorus before OD/dirt but after fuzz, mostly because the fuzz I use, Diabolik, is really sensitive to input. The tone in this example is the Sansamp VT Deluxe and Boss CE-2W Waza Craft.
Lovely video, thank you so much Jake. The first song you demo at the 6:30 mark is so very familiar, but I can't put a name on it...what is it?
