My sister died 8 years in a freak car crash. Garth Brooks was her absolute favorite country artist, this was her favorite song, & I struggle to listen to his music even now, 8 years later. The first time I heard this song, I sat in my car when it was over, & I bawled my eyes out. I've always been a metal/rock fan, so we never saw eye to eye on music, but I know she would've loved this. Thank you so much for giving me a renewed connection to my best friend.

They did a hell of a job on this song. You take a classic song from a different style of music - turn it into a rock/metal song and more times than not it doesn't sound right. They nailed it!

@@themasterninja110 I disagree, but not about it sounding better. It is when a group or singer covers a song but makes it their own by taking it to their genre and not trying to make a carbon copy of it makes for a great cover. Those who try to match the original make a bland carbon copy and those of us from the analogue days know about copy degradation.

Agreed. But musicians that stray too far away from the original version end up sounding silly and almost "disrespectful", in my opinion. I think there's a happy medium where a band can make it their own while still allowing the original sound to come through. And I think this band nailed it.

I still think about Fall of Ideals when I mention All That Remains and probably always will. Sure, change is good, but it isn't the good kind of change. Still, they were awesome live with even their new songs, so they really have raw talent no matter what they played. What did you think of the song "Safe House"? I thought they really tried to hard, but failed with that one.

37 now, but when I was a teenager, I had a record from All That Remains. It was basically on replay for a while there. When I was a kid, though, Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks was my absolute favorite song, even though I was a Metallica junkie at a young age. All That Remains covering this song is pretty fucking awesome. Thank you guys, and gal. I think it was This Darkened Heart. It was during that insane hardcore/metalcore era when this shit really blew up. From Orlando and we had a GREAT scene at the time. I played drums so , All That Remains was one of those bands I learned from. Man, memories. Thanks again. Damn, now I find myself listen to this album again. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug.

Three thirty in the morning Not a soul in sight The city's looking like a ghost town On a moonless summer night Raindrops on the windshield There's a storm moving in He's heading back from somewhere That he never should have been And the thunder rolls And the thunder rolls Every light is burning In a house across town She's pacing by the telephone In her faded flannel gown Asking for a miracle Hoping she's not right Praying it's the weather That's kept him out all night And the thunder rolls And the thunder rolls The thunder rolls (the thunder rolls) And the lightning strikes Another love grows cold On a sleepless night (on a sleepless night) As the storm blows on out of control Deep in her heart As the thunder rolls She's waiting by the window When he pulls into the drive She rushes out to hold him Thankful he's alive But on the wind and rain A strange new perfume blows And the lightning flashes in her eyes And he knows that she knows And the thunder rolls And the thunder rolls And the thunder rolls The thunder rolls (the thunder rolls) And the lightning strikes Another love grows cold On a sleepless night As the storm blows on Out of control Deep in her heart As the thunder rolls (deep in her heart) Deep in her heart The thunder rolls The thunder rolls The thunder rolls on And the thunder rolls

He's made the universe do things that have been beyond doubt clear messages to me and others around me used as conduits able to receive the message and tell me I needed to go to the scene he was killed and get a certain thing of.my father's I would have never seen again if I didn't leave when I did and the man never knew.my father. My dad loved this song, I showed it to him my senior year of Waterville, ME High School and we used to coexist as we did and drink beers and be the bad motherfuckers we now only exist through me. Thank you for making this song, as I feel my father even more than I do since the tragic 6/30/21 when he was taken from us, when I hear this beautiful badass song just as beautiful and badass as my other half. - Joel Williams Jr 08/09/1998

Tom Das The Thunder Rolls isn't the song with the "secret" 3rd verse. That's "Friends in Low Places". My sister plays Garth Brooks all the damn time so that's why I know just about every single one of his songs, and it's always been "Friends in Low Places" that had the "secret 3rd verse.

Garth ALWAYS does the hidden 3rd verse live... ALWAYS. The verse was written for TANYA TUCKER when she recorded it (before Garth)... since Tanya waited to put it on an album Garth asked for the song back (since he co-wrote it) and Tanya let him have it.

I just got back from my Sister. And YES there's a 3rd verse, but it's only during the Live Shows. All covers of anything is almost always the studio version of the covered song. Besides, even if ATR knew about the 3rd verse, they wouldn't do it anyway, because that's Garth's Thing! This just happens to be a Garth Brooks song done in an All That Remains style. In my opinion, the best cover is when the band plays it in their own unique sound.

All That Remains is one of the original bands that got me into metal. Along with Killswitch, Lamb of God, and Bullet. The mid 2000’s were an awesome time to be a metal head. Tough to beat Garth’s original, but there is no denying they nailed this. I always said to my buddies that The Thunder Rolls is the most ‘metal’ country song I’ve ever heard. Proud of the boys in ATR for enjoying some main stream success after all of those years with their noses to the grindstone, touring and building a name for themselves. They deserve some time in the spotlight. If you want to hear what these guys sounded like in their heyday, check out - The Air That I Breath, This Calling, Six, Two Weeks, Not Alone, Empty Inside, and It Dwells In Me.

That is the third verse to the song. The song came out in like the early 90's with the 2 and 3 verse versions.

AM I the only one that fucking loves this song? Yeah, it's not as 'heavy' as their older stuff, but it's no less meaningful.

Hahahahahaha naw. You watched a youtube video of an Elvis Look-A-Like singing this song. It was first done by Tanya Tucker sometime in the 80's or maybe early 90's. I was young then, but I remember my parents listening to it.

This is a great crossover cover, guys! I have broad musical tastes, but this gives a country classic a breath of new life.

Garth allowed this? That a surprise. The man protects his music like it's a pot of gold.
