It’s such a shame we caused the extinction of this unique and beautiful species. I can’t understand the mindset of those that caused it’s demise, like we’re they not noticing how few left there were and ever wondered why? I’ve seen there has been experiments so recreate the thylacine using cloning techniques, I hope that it will work one day if we don’t find them in the wild. I’m surprised no big companies like the BBC or WWF would fund a search for it in PNG, or even deep in Tasmania. Imagine what that would do for the world of conservation as well as the benefits the company would receive. I hope a wealthy individual may stumble upon this and want to help and fund a search for it🙏

Possibly the worst part of all this is that settlers massively exaggerated how large thylacines were to justify extermination, leading to a complete misunderstanding of thylacine biology and the role they played in Australia ecosystems, which further contributed to a fundamental misunderstanding of Australian ecosystems and wildlife as a whole. Thylacines were never apex predators. They were only about coyote-sized and filled the same niche, hunting mainly small mammals. This makes it unlikely they were outcompeted by dingoes (since dingoes hunt much larger prey on a regular basis), and it means that Australia never actually had a terrestrial apex predator between initial human colonization and dingoes being introduced-there was nothing to eat things like red or grey kangaroos or the larger wallabies. The actual native apex predators of modern Australian ecosystems were giant varanids and Thylacoleo, except most people fail to realize they were even components of modern Australian ecosystems.

yes well written.... animals like Thylacoleo and Diprotodon, both of whom went extinct about 40,000 are possible the best fossil evidence of human migration into Australia, and evidence that Indigenous Australians did not in-fact take care of the land, but instead where-ever humans travelled we permanently alter ecosystems that we occupy

Yes cookie! Alot of footage here that i have never seen before. Thanks bro. Such a cool and unique species. So so sad. Usually we dont get to see footage of exctinct species and watching this and the conditions they were kept in and knowing we are most likely seeing the very last few individuals of that species is so so sad. The human race as a whole needs to get a grip or we will lose more unique species and possibly become extinct ourselves. We need to find a balance were we can coexist without causing more harm to sn already severely damaged planet. The problem is how do we do that?

Such a unique looking animal. It served a purpose in nature. There is nothing to justify the inhumane treatment being kept in the zoo, nor killing them in the wild by ranchers. It's quite sad, really.

Seeing these stripes so clear makes me wonder about a story from Papua New Guinea from 2021 where a man declared to Forrest Galante he kenw a man who has 2 kind of wild dogs at his home in the jungle, one light colored who sings and the one with the striped back. The one with the striped back was young and got killed by the other dogs in the village ...........
