All Seven Acton Stations in Fastest time Possible
Acton Stations! Yes, there are now SEVEN station on the London Underground map, split over four different lines and i've always wondered ...what's the fastest time it would take me to get round all seven? Only one way to find out!

You just need to apply Newton’s third law of train motion. For every Acton, there’s an equal and opposite re-Acton.

Well that was a fun little jaunt. I used to be a district nurse in Acton, on a bicycle of course. When it was raining I used all these little connections to get around and get away from the rain for a few minutes! The Overground was the North London Line in those days, and the trick was to know which end of the train had the guard's van for my bike. The way to tell was to look for the black triangle painted on the front of the train. If it was at the front, that was where the van was, and if it wasn't visible, that meant it was at the back instead. This is why cyclists at Acton Central etc would stand exactly in the middle of the platform, ready to run to either end depending on whether they saw the infamous black triangle or not. Happy days!
As someone who only occasionally visits London every now and then, I’ve always thought of Acton as this magical place. Connected to so many lines, going in so many directions, it must be a great place to live.

All the station with Acton in their names! This is a nice idea. It suggests all sorts of other Tube challenges to do all Tube stations whose names fit a certain theme. All the colours? Kings and Queens?
I once encountered a group of chaps who were visiting all the underground stations with 'Park' in them in a day - they had to get out and be photographed at each. I met them near Park Royal - I think they still had Moor Park to tick off. Also: Acton Central on the Overground is the where the power source changes between 'overhead' and 'third rail' - people on westbound trains often react when they hear the collector/pantograph come down with a bang.
I've always wondered what Acton did to warrant so many stations

lucky you with the east acton thing- 2 sundays ago i was going on the underground for the first time in 2 yrs (obviously to see the nle) and decided to try the all line challenge (excluding w&c) and bank was closed on the central- adding 20 minutes to our time! (We didn't know so we went to bank and had to turn around and go to moorgate and Liverpool STREET, the run was going so well!)
so cool you walked past where I live near Acton town. Love Acton. Best wishes
Geoff, this has made me plan to visit all LR stops starting with T in the shortest time possible.
For reference Geoff, the 218 was an amalgamation of two route cuts/re-routes and was introduced December 2019. The 218 runs between Hammersmith (Lower) Bus Station & North Acton Station. Replaces the 266 between Hammersmith and Acton Town Hall via Paddenswick Road & Askew Road Replaces the 440 between Acton Town Hall and North Acton via Noel Road/ West Acton Station. There you go!

@@geofftech2 No problem, though ironically the 440 just heads straight down Horn Lane and past Acton Main Line
Many years ago there used to be a shuttle train between South Acton and Acton Town, which would have been handy for these sorts of challenges.
this should have been called "ALL THE ACTONS" awesome video Geoff as always!
Yea in 2019 the 440 was rerouted to go via the 266 at Horn Lane and it was extended to Wembley Stadium, and at the same time the 266 was shortened to Acton Town Hall. So TfL made a new route called the 218 (North Acton-Hammersmith) which covers the lost section of the 440 and 266. Hope this helps!
This is a brilliant video. :) I'm sure theres plenty of places elsewhere you can do challenges like these. Pitty about the Eastbound trains not stopping at East Acton station though.
Amazed that you got an Ealing Broadway District Line service so quickly! When I lived near Ealing Broadway they seemed as rare as hen's teeth and I most often had to take the Ealing Common Picadilly Line service and walk.
Congratulations on setting a new world record for this challenge
Really enjoy your videos, just wish they were longer!
Having lived there for ten years, no journey that ends in East Acton is a good one.
Great video XD The 440 changed West Acton part of the routing around December 2019. TFL had a huge consultation going for a lot of route changes in line for Crossrail (presuming it was going to fully open then)
I can’t believe you didn’t know that, I knew that since the beginning of the academic year. Also huge fan of all you videos
Geoff: Thanks for your "true geography" map : Appreciated ! Knowing that preparing such a map takes a lot of time and effort, _still_ , _as_ _always_ , this greatly helps following your route. ¶ As with "historical" topics, this "competitive" topic, too, is one of the (very) few areas where a _map_ of the physical terrain is more informative than a simplified _schematic_ _diagram_ ... IMHO, of course. =8D /Mike

A quirky challenge would be all the stations with the word Liverpool in them.
I wonder whether Acton has so many stations as it's a great place to be....or needs so many ways to leave!
Did this today, didn't break the hour but enjoyed it. Started at East Acton 11.42, arrived at North Acton at 11.44, West Acton at 11.47 . Walked to North Ealing, on train at 12.04 arrived Acton Town 12.08. Walked to Sth Acton, on train at 12.28, arrived Acton Central 12.30. Walked to Acton Main Line, arriving at 12.45, so 1 hour 3 minutes, but train leaving at 12.54, so 1 hour 12 minutes total.
I enjoy your videos, haven't got through all yet, only recently discovered the channel. I remember in my youth went a few times to the rarely used Blake Hall Station on the Central Line. Have you done a video on this station? Why on earth a station was ever there is something I never figured out, it was literally in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks for posting. It was a fun video. 🇦🇺👍👍

Geoff I work near East Acton, my heart broke when you said you were ending the challenge there!
I tried you challenge yesterday starting at East Acton and managed it in 57 minutes. Like you no helpful buses came along. The timings of the walk from West Acton to Acton Main Line were a bit tight but the TFL rail was slightly late which helped. Ended up with a 10 minute wait at South Acton but still managed to to get to Acton Central in under an hour.
I am just here enjoying the accent 👌🏽 ❤🇬🇧
Hi Geoff, I'm heading to London in over a week, and I was thinking about doing something like all 11 London Underground lines in the fastest possible time. Obviously I would have to do my research before I do the challenge.
Now this was funny! You didn’t do your homework! 😂😂😂 You should have done it in conjunction with Runderground Matt…. He’d have thrashed it.
Well done Geoff. I reckon you should take the 57 minutes. Who said you had to get out at East Action? After all there were others you didn't get out at! By the way, here's a challenge for you: the fastest trip to ALL Ruislip stations using the Underground only - no walking or buses. You'd be hard-pushed to do that in under an hour. Thanks for all your videos.
