Trogly; FYI according to “Fender The Golden Age” by Kelly, Foster and Kelly, the original rosewood Tele as gifted to Harrison was “made by sandwiching two slabs of thick rosewood together with a thin layer of maple running through the centre. To alleviate weight, Kubicki hollowed out chambers in the rosewood slabs.”

I have a Kubicki rosewood strat not chambered nice guitar I also had another one built as well as a les paul heavy as hell but sound great

I bought a ‘22 Custom Shop Rosewood Tele, and I really love the Twisted Tele pickups. They have a fat bottom end and heavy bite that none of the other Tele pickups have. If you haven’t reviewed a Tele with those pickups, I highly recommend doing so.

I played one of those fifty years back, when my back was 50 years younger. I wish I could say it belonged to me, but it belonged to the bass player in our band. Great guitar. Very warm and solid low end. But oy it was heavy!

Sounded good to me. I got a full gloss tele rosewood light from elderly music in 2013 two slabs of rosewood with a piece of spruce in between. It's not light, feels as heavy as a Les Paul but beautiful to look at and sounds good too. 1900 for a production fender pretty pricey back then

yep, funny when HB players play a Tele, they're like why isn't the guitar doing more for me :) lol

A few years ago a local guy, older guy, was selling one of these cause he was unable to play anymore. It was an all rosewood fender tele that he said he had since the 70s. He was only asking $100, seem sketchy and was doubtful about it. He did have lots of pics and looked legit. I got his address and he told me to hurry cause he had another guy on the way too. He was about 30miles away, I made it half way when he text'd me that the other guy showed up and took it. I still wonder if indeed it was real and tell myself I should have not been so slow to move to get it

Very cool. About 4 years ago I purchased a solid (non-weight relieved, almost 12 pounds) rosewood Telecaster, it has turned out to be one of my favorite. Not sure about this one, however mine has a super thick neck profile that is 1.10" at the 12th. The rosewood construction really does change the tone as compared to a traditional Ash/Maple Tele. Not sure if it's because mine is solid, but the tone is very dark, nothing like this version at all. Fun Fact, the reason for the maple strip/layer, rosewood is such an oily wood that it doesn't like to be glued to itself, they add the maple in between them so that the glue will better hold to the maple.

Thanks for the fun fact about the maple strip. Does that mean there will be issues with the fretboard being glued directly to the rosewood neck?

Regarding the Sharpie mark, try taking a Q-tip with a little bit of isopropyl alcohol to an inconspicuous area to check for finish reaction first, and then proceed to the boo-boo if it passes. I've used 91% isopropyl to get Sharpie off a number of guitar finishes. It works fine for most modern finish materials. DO NOT do it on nitro, though!

I love rosewood teles but I just bought a mahogany body and neck with rosewood fingerboard, body dyed a dark wine red type. Really beautiful

I am a bit spoiled with the tele's in my collection. I have a custom shop Esquire, a Brad Paisley tele and a tele that I built from scratch that I call the Telebird. It is a reverse headstock with a Tele body that I made out of Teakwood, a wraparound bridge and a firebird pickup in the bridge and a twisted tele in the neck. I used a tele thinline pickguard and it pulls off the Firebird/Tele athstetic perfectly

In the mid-‘80s, I bought a Japanese Rosewood Tele reissue from a guy who had it imported from Japan. He said it was a “gray-market” model, as it didn’t have “Made in Japan” anywhere on it, and wasn’t supposed to be available in the US at all. It was gloss-finished on both the body and neck, and the neck was one piece-no separate fingerboard. Vintage-style Kluson tuners and non-threaded steel bridge saddles. I believe it was chambered, but it was still pretty heavy, and it was actually a little darker-sounding than most alder- or ash-bodied Teles. I played it for a few years, and traded it off for a Fender Strat Plus, which was a great guitar.

I saw one recently on ZZsounds brand new, about two weeks ago, so i do believe they’re still in production, albeit in extremely limited quantities like maybe two-three per year but you’ll have to be constantly looking for them to grab one. I’ve been obsessed with owning a rosewood telecaster, especially if it was the george harrison model so i had it in the cart ready to check out…but then i also have my eyes on the Japanese rosewood telecaster which is glossy all around and tbh, looks way better than the USA production, needless to say i didn’t purchase the GH model, instead I’ll buy the glossy made in japan fender rosewood tele, looks so beautiful. This one however more closely resembles the one George played on the rooftop gig so any purists out there would buy this one for that reason and also their resale value goes up. Great video man, you done a good job going over this beauty. Rock on 🤘

Trogly, you are RIGHT ON with your comment @1:52 about the satin, almost unfinished rosewood neck, which to me has a very strange and very uncomfortable feel. I found this out when GC was selling 100% rosewood necked Fender American Professional Stratocasters and Telecasters sometime in (approx.) the 2015 to 2016 time frame.

I just picked up a 2018 Rosewood neck American Strat, and I love it. Never been a Fender guy, but at 15 or so guitars I needed at least one.

You using that Gibson splinter to fix the Fender was just great LOL. I loved that! (I like both Fender and Gibson, btw).

Very cool...I've always loved the Rosewood Teles, I like both the gloss and the matte finish, though I'd prob go for gloss myself. Instead of weight relief on a Rosewood Tele I'd rather have a Thinline Rosewood Tele....that'd be COOL !...I say I'm a Tele guy ( cuz I have two ) , but really I'm a ' Any guitar I like kinda guy ! )....Thank You Trogly !

There are a lot of people who can make magic with a Fender, but I'm not one of them. I like the "working musician's" vibe of bolt-on neck and easy modification, love the string-through design, but hate the feel of the "ash tray" bridge. Probably just a sign that I should play them more often! Thanks for another great episode

I love both strats and teles. I love the lightweight and holding comfort of a strat and I love how a tele sits almost perfectly in your lap. Guess I just love the feeling of a good guitar in general.

They look nice, but George's at least, was _really_ heavy. I think it's odd that so many people associate it with him given how little he cared for it. Lucy was much more his preferred guitar, before moving to strats _almost_ exclusively during the 70s. Still, it was iconic for the moment I guess, and it's unique look coupled with the few songs it appeared on are enough. It's also a lot more subtle than Rocky lol

I dig the satin finish. It's understated and cool. I'd throw in a middle pickup too. I'm not a huge Beatles fan or anything.

I built a partscaster version the original Harrison rosewood tele, have enjoyed owning and playing it for 5 years now. I did change the neck pickup to a single coil sized humbucker, and it is unchambered, so a bit heavy at 9lbs 3 oz. Sorry to see that you didn’t enjoy this classic version. Thanks for posting!

Beautiful George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster, the Rosewood is especially beautiful with all kinds of colors a variations in the grain, I am sure it would look even better once it was all polished up! I think you would be hard pressed to find one with much more spectacular wood grain. Like you mentioned, it could certainly be modified with a different set of pickups, however, it would not be original anymore and it may devalue the instrument. If it were mine, I would polish it and spare no elbow grease, it would eventually really shine with that beautiful wood grain! Thank you for posting these videos! I wanted one of these and missed out. So I settled for a Mod Shop Tele with a solid rosewood neck. After seeing this I don’t think I settled. I got all gold hardware, satin black body, Nashville noiseless pickups. Yeah I am also a Gibson Black Beauty fan. LOL My neck is solid, has the skunk stripe, adjusts from the top, and has Fender laser engraved on the headstock. Plays great and makes me happy just to look at it. Only thing I’d change is I need a push/pull or something so I can get a bridge/neck combination. It’s got a 5 way like a strat so I’m missing a signature Tele sound.

Hey Austin i watch your show every day and truly enjoy your journey. I hate to be that guy but when you measure the necks scale length it is measured from the nut to the center of the 12th fret and double that making the scale length 24 3/4" If you do some checking and find Im wrong feel free to bat me around a bit.

"Figuring" is a perfectly usable and appropriate word. No need to try and force new terminology when what we are all used to has always worked. 🙂 And heyyyy....we got an individual look at the parts and specs again! Now that should be your slogan. 😎

A friend’s dad had one of these when I was a kid. It was a gloss finish. Very cool

I don’t own a Tele, I’ve never really played one, but I will add one to my collection one day. This one is beautiful, but I think I’d also prefer a full gloss finish on that one… Great show!

Do it! They're great guitars, more versatile that they look, like any guitar they have pros and cons. I want a second , with more of a h-h setup, maybe just stacked single bridge h in neck, or a Troublecaster! My main axe is a 50's ri tele but sometimes i want hotter neck and bucker bridge.

Get a Nashville B-Bender Telecaster. Has Texas Special pickups. Can be strung either Country or conventional. Has a three pickup setup.

I have a 1969 original GH rosewood tele .... I bought it in 1976 for equivalent of $250 ... played it for 19 years in a band and she is now in retirement ... back then I had no idea what a unique instrument it was

Secret about Sharpie: it’s not really permanent. Dry Erase markers have alcohol based solvents in them. Rub some dry erase marker over the Sharpie, give it a few seconds, then wipe off with a dry erase marker eraser, the Sharpie should be gone. Sometimes black sharpie leaves a shadow (especially the “pro” version, so just repeat the process and it should clear up. Now will it mess up this guitar, that really depends on how Fender finished this, and if alcohol solvents are bad for it.

You really need to consider playing with the tone knob each time you turn on the selector switch there’s a myriad of tones available when you Jockey the tone knob with each pick up selection.

LD in mint condition , all original case and hangtags on the guitar snd case , the only mark is light pick seirls on the pickguard that you really have to look for to notice , this is one special indtrument , i have the original paperwork and as many photos as is needed . I have a parts caster that looks like this but with an f hole, sand blasted satin finish and a blacked out headstock

These all rosewood guitars .. even the reissues not to long ago . Are just. Super great. Also korina and now Paulownia... They just sound great

I have a B-Bender Telecaster with the three pickup setup. They are Texas Specials, I recently found out! They have a think Rocking sound. No wonder I tended to use that guitar when I was in my last band. You can take the B string and string it conventionally as this guitar is set up to do this. Although nominally a Country instrument, It's very versatile. I had a conventional Tele but sold it in favour of this guitar. It didn't have the tone or the feel I liked. Always been more a Strat or other guitar person. But the nashville Tele is cool!

That tele would look great next to my LP 2012 studio Mahogany worn brown satin finish. Remember back then the studios were like today’s tribute satin finish.

that’s how taste differ. I like the feel of an all-rosewood neck with no finish on it (and I think most all-rosewood necks are like that). Especially because it doesn’t stick like laquered necks usually do.

I have an '05 20th annv. PRS McCarty with all rosewood neck that feels fantastic. Same with the original run Music Man St. Vincent rosewood neck finished with gun stock oil. Like velvet. Both cheaper than this thing. Each to their own.

Yep,just because he says " he doesn't like" it means absolutely zero to me...

I think I'd go with a full-gloss on this type of wood. Needs it to show off that gorgeous rose grain.

There's a stress crack under that black sharpie - visible from the side.

i tried 2 of these last year. what i like about Gibson and Fender even you if played Gibson R9 2022 and another R9 2022 it sounds different. the latter can be sound powerful and good. at least to my ear. same goes to Fender. i tried both the rosewood telecaster 2022 i prefer the first one i strummed cause it sound really thick and powerful. the second one a bit thin on the bridge and neck is angry biting sound. that's the charms of Gibson and Fender. you have to look and ear for it.

What type of Rosewood is the guitar made from? The neck looks like East Indian Rosewood while the body appears to be Cocobolo, surprisingly. I would have thought that is was all EIR.

Reminds me of mid-century Danish furniture. Pretty.

Appreciate the honest take on this. Every other video on this model kinda overdid the praise, with no critical eye. Also appreciate a Fender review…seems like the first in months!

Agree with the satin vs gloss ‘pop’ but I must say the grain is mighty pretty. How sacrilege would it be to swap out the pick ups for something a little more meaty?

Since it's not an exact replica of Harrison's original tele, I'd say Fender already made the first "mods" before it ever left the factory so I wouldn't be ashamed to change pups myself. Also, used Custom Shop Rosewoods are selling for about the same as the Harrison sig and no one would judge mods on one of those. And those are gloss!!!

A buddy of mine had a rosewood Tele he bought in late 1981. It was a Squier, one of THE first. It weighed a ton!! So after a coupe years, he sold it to our OTHER guitar playin' buddy. Have they, or will they, ever make a laminated neck Tele?

Just bought one yesterday, A warmoth neck/body with build sheet. It’s heavy but the Lollar Ts are fire! I can’t see why someone would build 4K in parts then sell as a new build for 999.99 but hey, Bonus for me…The good I mean awesome? This thing has a tone that’s stfd Amazing, beautiful work though out All Rosewood neck (giant U) bone nutt, cts pots etc.. it’s loaded! Only thing that will keep others away is it’s heavy! Like 59 LP

I’m much more of a Les Paul guy, but that is one beautiful Tele! Before you sell it, you should try swapping some other pickups into it to see if you can get a tone you like better. Seymour Duncan makes all kinds of pickups for whatever kind of tones you’re looking for. You might also get someone to spray a gloss finish into it, if you’re really not liking the satin. Or you could just buff it out a bit. Just a thought. I can see why you’re not satisfied with the tone, but it does really have kind of its own thing going on. It grew on me as you played it. I especially liked the gainer tones.

I agree that satin finishes feel good, but I don't care for the look of them. You magnify the wood grain when using the heavy lacquer coating. Plus its so shinney!

The E/B string tree is much so closer to the nut than a typical Tele providing much more sever break angle. This is obviously due to the legalization of drinking alcohol on the job at the factory. As a side note, In the 80's, I watched one of these rosewood behemoths fall from the top hook at GC. It took out other pricey Fenders and a jazz box on the way down. This is after an employee got out the ladder of shame and w/o one iota of understanding that "Tele headstocks don't fit in guitar hooks", proceeded to place it way up on the 3rd tier close to the ceiling. He put said ladder away and went on to do his biz. I had thought it stopped its twisting movement, but all of a sudden from across the showroom I watched as it found its new gravity-less freedom and Pow! Zing! BanG, SMAsh! ThUd..... I never laughed so hard and cried at the same time. A huge crowd gathered as employees and spectators gathered. GC dude didn't cop to his mistake and acted like acted like anyone but him caused it. I wasn't about to stick his mistake in his face or rat him out, but I only hope he sees this and with his 40 years of personal growth, fesses up. All guitars involved were unplayable. I'll never forget that event.

It really looks like there's a crack on the fingerboard where that sharpie marker is. I don't know... Maybe they tried to hide a glue squeeze out where it was lighter in color.

One of the best guitars I ever play was the Jimmy page tele signature, I'm wondering how different can this one feels and sounds 🤔

He'll yea I'll tell this story again and get edited again in 1979 I bought a 1972 brown semi transparent tele like you mentioned I giged it for years in 1985 we opened up for the Dead Boys at the DEMI Club in Enola PA. a club long closed when Stiv Bators their singer said after we played let me see that guitar, I said sure, he said cool, I said cool I played it a few more years but switched to my 79 strat with a humbucker for are crossover hardcore band, I sold it for $250.00 and bought an 8 ball rock n fn roll

Harrison gave his away to a friend he was touring with. Fender made a rosewood Strat for Jimi but he died before they could deliver it to him. Harrisons family have the guitar back in the collection.

Ouch on the over size pilot holes. Rosewood and Walnut can hold screws like nobody's bidness

George Harrison Tele looks great at first blush, but unhappy with disappointing quality control issues especially for a limited edition run. Not a fan of such extensive chambering, a Tele has to be beefy, so it follows not so great tones either. What was I so excited about anyway?

All rosewood neck is very nice. All rosewood body (solid) has little appeal to me because of the weight, though from what you say the chambering addresses this. The grain is nice, especially on the sides of the guitar, but gloss would definitely bring it out more. The original price for these was actualy not too bad, but I still think there are a lot of guitars I'd rather have more for the same money. I have an Am Pro II Tele and it ticks all the boxes for me.

I got an Eric Johnson Virginia Strat for $1900 open box last year that's flawless and one amazing guitar. The most I've ever spent on any Fender, USA or Japanese, but well worth it for the quality in build, feel and tones. Another 2 grand (Trog's asking on his site) for this thing is insane. Oops, there went another screw..

Ive been waiting for this review since the rocky strat.

Rubbing alcohol removes ink and marker. No damage or buffing to worry about. Test it on a empty can or water bottle to prove it works.

I always wanted to have the bucks to go through the Fender Custom shop and have a Rosewood Telecaster Deluxe made with a 12" radius neck. I got a quote for having one made and I'd have to sell a Kidney and a lung to be able to afford it.

Try out a nick johnston signature. Has a insane 14 inch radius

Maybe it didn't sound good to you in the room, Trogly, but that thing has exactly what a Tele player wants in the way of tone. To actually have a lipstick neck pickup that bright and clear is amazing to me; they're so easy to have sound lifeless and dull.

Satin necks are far more comfortable than gloss necks in my opinion.

Man that guitar is great, i played last year at a friend's studio, great for recording all kinds of stuff, it's not for hard rock or metal obviously, you have to kinda let the guitar play you. Don't treat like a gibson or a rock guitar, just chill and let it be

@The Nameless I've encountered many haters that had the Fabs shoved down their throats from birth and told that they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Also, some don't care for his style as they find it simplistic. I think he's a great player with a lot of feel.

I like to guitar. If I had the money I would try and buy it.

Naphtha will take that sharpie off no problem. Use a Q tip and wipe gently until you see black coming off on the the cotton. Repeat until gone

I don't like the maple through the middle. Makes it look cheap to me, I dunno. Other than that, I dig it 🤘
