@@jamesmartin2063 Night Trap is a Video game starring Dana Plato it can be considered a precursor to Five Nights at Freddy's except it's story actually happens on screen instead of in audio.

"You are a disgrace!". Even in a cheesy cartoon, the relationship between Dracula and his son is pretty accurate to Castlevania.

Just what Bram Stocker intended.

in the original game alucard was banished and wanted to get revenge on his father but the writers of this show thought and said "well since he doesn't like his dad will just make him into a teenager because all teenagers are rebellious

It's worse than that. Nintendo of America (who held Marketing Rights for all games on the NES platform, regardless of who made them....), called DIC up and told them they had to adept Castlevania 3, use the characters from it, and didn't tell them anything about the game except for a random list of character names... Forcing the writers to make shit up at random. Interviews with DIC Staff said this was par for the course for Captain N, that Nintendo of America refused to do anything but send them letters saying "These are the names of games we want you to adapt, and here's some character names. Good luck figuring this out.. Shit head" Hell... when they were told Mega Man was going to be in the main cast they delayed coming up with a design till the last possible minute hoping Nintendo would clarify on who exactly Mega Man is... Forcing the lead animator to go out, find an NES, find a copy of Mega Man, load it up on an old TV, and describe the character to the design team over the phone. The TV had severe coloration issues, which effected the game sprites, and that's why Mega Man is Green on this show. Sypha's in this same episode... and is an old man who dresses up like Merlin and has blue skin.... Meaning LITERALLY every single detail about her was wrong You really can't blame the staff behind Captain N, they were the blind being lead by the dumb. It's no fucking wonder the staff said "I give up!" after the end of the third season... No seriously... the Third and Final Season ended with a multi-part adaptation of Final Fantasy.... Which they flew through completely blind... Yeah I'd have given up at that point myself... Even knowing the plot to Final Fantasy, I don't have enough drugs and religious symbolism to do anything with that IP, so what chance did DIC have?

@@1Hol1Tiger Yeah it's not like when DiC had to make up stories for Sonic where there wasn't much to work with and ended up being actually good. Weird though. I mean yeah Dracula acts like Dracula (from like Scooby Doo) but Alucard.... WHY???

@@KOTEBANAROT Yeah. But this is a faaaar cry from the thing they're advertising. You didn't see this happen with toy promos. TMNT, He-Man, She-Ra, and Transformers were great. Captain N however does a terrible job at advertising the games.

Alucard is so fucking radical

There actually is an explanation for how they got the character of Alucard Interviews with the writing and animation staff basically had them admit that they completely made this shit up as they went along. But it wasn't their fault. When it was time to design characters and do storyboards Nintendo of America (Who commissioned the show), were about as helpful as a condom machine in the Vatican. As all NOA sent them were a list of Game Titles and some horribly translated character names, no reference art, no backstories, nothing like that... This made the production Hell, as they couldn't get Nintendo of America to be anymore helpful... The design for Mega Man was literally done by the lead animator going out finding an NES, hooking it up to an old TV, starting up Mega Man, and describing the character over the phone... Due to the poor quality of the TV used.. the sprites were discolored, causing Mega Man to appear green.... So why not fix this and make him Blue after the first couple of episodes? Because they were too busy trying to make up character designs for games they've never heard of, that Nintendo of America won't tell them anything about aside from the title, in a time period where wikipedia doesn't exist, and apparently Nintendo of America gave so few fucks about this series that they never sent anybody over to say "Wait what the fuck are you doing?" Infact the only thing Nintendo of America ever did to "help", was make sure they never used Mario or Samus, those two characters were off the table completely. Samus as not to give away "The Reveal" at the end of the game, and Mario because they already had a dedicated show for Mario (The Super Mario Bros. Super Show), oh and to add an annoying sidekick who's a literal Game Boy in order to promote the Game Boy's release. So why didn't Konami say "Hold on a fucking second, you did WHAT to Alucard?", or Capcom swoop into say "Make Mega Man blue or we're taking the character away from you?" Because they legally couldn't! Nintendo, NOA especially, had draconian policies that involved major censorship and demanding that Nintendo have all say for how the games were marketed in the US... and since Nintendo basically had a monopoly in America at the time... companies had to agree to this. Captain N:The Game Master was doomed to be nothing but a disgusting failure from the very start... all because of the Stars Aligning in exactly the wrong way, as to someone one of the worst executed advertising gimmicks of all time... Except for maybe the time Capcom decided to send out RoboCalls and Text Messages to random numbers telling a bunch of people that they've been infected with the T-Virus, to promote the Resident Evil REmake on Game Cube, unintentionally starting a panic when various people who had never even heard of the Resident Evil series, were suddenly being told they had this deadly (but fictional) disease... Made worse when many of the people who complained about these calls were over 60 (and obviously not keeping up with the lore for a mid 90's Horror series) and didn't need yet another ailment making their Boomer lives anymore difficult.. Forcing Capcom to pay a fine, and for the COD to re-assure people that the T-Virus isn't real, and the symptoms described (Which mentioned everything BUT turning into a zombie, you know, the one thing that would have clued them in that this wasn't real) weren't going to happen to them No seriously, that happened... and people wonder what Publicity Stunts and Marketing Gimmics don't happen anymore... it's because Marketing Executives are prone to do incredibly stupid things

I truly feel ashamed I liked this series on my young days when I had no idea of were most of the characters came from, the only games I played at the time on nes were mario, zelda and some others like contra etc, since the tv shows for Mario and Zelda were fairly close to the games I was sure captain N was also close to the source material.

It's a decent show if you think of it as "loosely based on" the original video games. I have always seen it as more of a sci-fi/fantasy series wherein those involved with the series took some artistic liberties with the games and made some entertaining stories in the process. It should not be seen as canon with the backstories of the original games--but then again, for most of the games (at that time), there were no backstories!

The version of Alucard needs a comeback in the same vein as bad box art Mega Man

...wow. To think I played SotN as this guy.

People are so mad about this. This was from 1991, they didn't even have the *Super Nintendo* in the US yet. He was a complete non-character at the time, an assist character in Castlevania 3.

Id say this idea kind of lives on through that Blood Dragon anime on Netflix

Why is Miss Sypha an old man with a beard?

I have a DVD of the Super Mario World Super Show with episodes of Captain N. sprinkled between. I watched it when I was 8, before I had effectively any knowledge of Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Castlevania, Metroid, Final Fantasy, etc. So, imagine, a decade later, thinking about the "I'll show you, you just wait and see!" line, and suddenly connecting the dots that that was Dracula's son and therefore probably Alucard. I need to rewatch all of those at some point and see exactly what manner of drug trip I was subjecting myself to at that age.

I love how this isnt all that far from the actual backstory to Castlevania 3 and SotN

​@@archagenteverlasting1239 Except dhampirs aren't harmed by sunlight, can eat and drink things other than blood, and can pass as humans as long as they don't show their fangs. Also I remember reading somewhere on Castlevania wiki that dhampirs can't turn people into vampires.

For many cases, that was actually the only thing they did have as a point of reference. The story goes that Nintendo of America couldn't give enough of a damn to give the Captain N team any real help when it came to the background of all these characters. NOA were like "here's a list of characters, you're on your own with what they look like or how they act. Just put them in the show."

They actually didn't. Nintendo of America made a rule saying that you published a game on their system, then it was Nintendo who had final say on how to market it, not the original Company. Obviously that's a rule that would NEVER fly today. Since DIC was already making The Super Mario Bros. Super Show they hired them to make Captain N... Problems quickly arouse when NOA refused to actually give DIC anything beyond a list of character names and game titles. Since the internet didn't exist yet it wasn't like they could put these into Google. DIC kept trying to get details but NOA refused to budge essentially saying "Work with what we gave you!" Hell the Character Designs for Pit, Simon Belmont, and Mega Man were done by, and I'm not joking, the Lead Animator running out, getting an NES and a copy of whatever games he could use the show's budget on (they were 50 bucks a pop, and the budget was low, so...) Got to the main screen, and described what the protagonists look like over the phone... And the TV he had was old and busted, causing the image to be discolored.. for this reason Mega Man is actually GREEN throughout the entire series. Yeah the show sucks.... and doesn't get a damn thing right. But it's Nintendo's fault Oh and since they were given a list of character names, but no actual pictures or concept art.. they weren't sure which of the names on the list for Kid Icarus was the Protagonist, so they just called Pit... "Kid Icarus"
