All on 4 or Snap in dentures? Some points to consider.

In this video Dr. Rich gives you some things to consider when you are deciding between getting fixed teeth on dental implants (all on 4) or removable teeth on dental implants (snap in dentures/overdentures). Points talked about are what are replacing in your own mouth, how will you maintain the dental implants, and the initial cost as well as ongoing maintenance costs.

    The ADA needs to convince Congress that good dental health is just (if not more important) for people who qualify for Medicare as it is for people who qualify for Medicaid. I’m certain that the American Heart Association can provide you with more than enough research data to prove there is a direct correlation between good dental health and good coronary health.

    Texas low income adults on Medicaid don’t get dentures. They don’t even cover extractions for adults. Medicare absolutely should cover dentures. Completely unacceptable for disabled people. Such as my husband not to have dentures. If dental care covered all things to prevent tooth loss. Root canals and fillings. Teeth cleaning exams and X-Rays. As well as dental sealants. It would be much cheaper more efficient. To prevent tooth loss. Implants are never going to be affordable. They require surgery for placement. Sometimes more than one surgery. There is risk of implant failure and infection. You need cleaning every six months. The dentist needs special tool to unscrew the implants. Remove them for cleaning. They charge extra for that. We can’t even manage to have every single person in this country. Get cleanings every six months. You are nuts if you think special cleanings along with replacing parts on implants will be affordable. I want dentures that fit and function for my disabled husband. Not something that he needs to be put to sleep. For surgery for placement.

    I had beautiful teeth but i wanted better so a Dentist i was referred to put bonding on my smile. He bonded 8 teeth but he put bonding on pretty teeth but i had gum disease and with the bonding i couldnt see what was goung on because with bonding you can't get to the places you need to treat...thats when i lost my teeth and a mid line facial infection that put me in the hospital..it was horrible! Im looking for a dentist to get the snap-in dentures so i can wear the bottoms and chew my food..I should have kept my teeth without the bonding! I can't afford the permanent inplants..I wish! Thank you!

    Thanks for the information, but I'm still confused on what is the best way to go. My previous dentist told me I couldn't get regular (polygrip) glue in dentures because of bone protrusion in my lower jaw. My new dentist says they can grind that out. But is recommending a All on 4 type but didn't mention maintenance.

  • @VeryNiceSmileDental

    @VeryNiceSmileDental

    Hi, yes the bone protrusions (tori or exostosises) can be removed surgically. All on 4 type will be the most like your own teeth but the most expensive initially and going forward if it breaks. I saw a person recently who was on his third upper all on 4 and needs a second lower all on 4. The implants are ok, he breaks the teeth. Removable overdentures (snap ins) are less expensive but are more like dentures than teeth. Regular dentures are the least expensive but the least like teeth. Is that helpful? Do you have any questions?

    I didnt have enough bone structure for any kind of implant so had to go with Dentures & theyre the worst things ive ever experienced...Got a flat pallette aswell,just so much material to fit in your mouth & no feeling when you try & bite or chew something,no feedback for how hard youre biting,theres nothing natural feeling about them & the way the pallette is so smooth & plasticy is feels gross & slimey I hate them so much & after two days I think im probably going to put them in the top drawer.

    Sorry to hear about your situation. For the top, ask your dentist if you're a candidate for zygomatic implants. They sometimes can be used in situations when the person has little bone remaining.

    Hi, I've a had a couple of patients who had an upper snap in denture on 4 implants, then they lost 2 of the implants. They didn't want to have any more implants placed, so I made them a new upper denture that used just the 2 remaining implants. With only 2 implants, the palate needed to be covered for better retention and stability.

Could the lab add extra material to the hybrid denture or was to much bone removed during surgery. I looked better in dentures. Thank you Dr❤

    Hi, talk to your dentist about your concerns before you get the final zirconia teeth. An all on 4 typically replaces both the teeth and some of the gums so you should be able to get some lip support, but the prosthetic will need to be designed that way.

    Hi Dr... I imagine it may not be (as) supportive as all on 4, but re cost containment... Would a full upper, snap on... all on 2, or all on 3, be doable and ok (in terms of stability and usage)? On acrylic? (Being that's the least expensive to repair, if necessary)? Without a bar (re cost). ??? Thanks.

    @@VeryNiceSmileDental Thanks. I think the full lower snap on, all on 2, would be doable for my husband (who has a full traditional upper for years and now needs a full lower), if we can afford it. But, I have most of my lower teeth, and now need a full upper (have only one full upper and 3 others that are just the roots left for the last 3.5 years). I have never worn any form of dentures (just a partial upper bridge). So, the experience is unknown to me, and sounds daunting. I have extra glandular sjogren's and fear issues with infections on sore spots on my gums and saliva imbalance causing a lack of suction with a traditional full upper. ??? Because of dryness, a goiter, Gerd, IBS, all sjogren's related, I often choke on foods and am not digesting foods fully either. It truly is a medical issue. But, in that we have Medicare and no real dental coverage, barely survive on Social Security now with inflation, and both need dentures, it's also a financial issue. So, I was wondering if a full upper snap in, all on 2, or all on 3, on acrylic, could be done (and would work)?

    Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Chronic dry mouth will make it more difficult to wear a denture. For upper snap in dentures, I usually place 4 implants. But a snap in denture still has to sit on your gums like a regular denture, so you may have issues with it. Are there any dental schools near where you live? They usually provide great dental at reduced costs, but the visits take a lot more time.

    The reason I am watching this video is because I went to Sani Dental in Los Algodones in Mexico in March of 2022. I spent 18,000 for bridges, crowns and implants. I was told in December of 2023, after numerous infections, that the dentist I had been assigned to previously was in experienced. They drilled off all of the work that they had done in 2022, and started over. None of the crowns were set and sealed correctly. 3 months later one of the poorly placed implants failed. I was at an American clinic for four hours today. I am losing my teeth and have to decide between snap on dentures or all on fours. Some dentist in Mexico are good. Some are not. Be careful. They do not give refunds.
