Translation - My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, all of us are dreamers. But if I may add, all of us are broken dreamers. We have dreamt many dreams and we have seen many of our dreams shattered, destroyed, crushed. As time goes by, we know that the truth is always forcibly destroyed, the beautiful are turned into ugly and the good are joined with the bad. Why is it like that? Because of many reasons, some are envious, some are crazy, some are foolish, and there are others who just want destruction. There are people who are always mad at the world. And if they see something beautiful, if they see goodness, if they hear the truth, they become restless and would want to destroy it. All of us, we all know how to dream, and we also know to destroy those dreams. We want to graduate, but we could not graduate, because of lack of money, father died. We want to get married and have a good life, but later on, we get tears in return and we separated our ways. You want to grow old fulfilling your dreams but you got illness that could kill you. Like today, during this Covid-19 pandemic, how many kids who dreamed of graduating this year but could not walk the graduation march, they could not even take pictures, could not receive their diploma. How many graduate students who are supposed to defend their dissertations to become Master’s Degree holder or PhD, but now they are no longer certain what would happen. We are all dreamers and have all experienced brokenness, crushed dreams. But that is only half of our life story. Because behind those broken dreams, and fallen dreams, behind those dreams that are now just like dust we could not build, across that story of broken dreams, Jesus is there who resurrected and removing the cover of the grave, taking away the rotten in our grave and giving us hope. It is good to meditate, my dear brothers and sisters, that this Covid-19 had destroyed many of our dreams, ruined all our plans, destroyed what we are hoping for our future, it is all happening during this Lenten and Easter Seasons. Because the other story of the crushed dream is Christ risen from the dead. It is not always crushed dreams that we look at. There is Christ risen from the dead, victorious over death, victorious over destruction that becomes our season, our reason for hoping. Even though our dreams are now like dust, gradually, Jesus is putting water on it, making it mud to make a pot for us. Even though our dreams are broken, Jesus is there to remove the cover of our grave so that our decomposing dreams will be resurrected, because the smell of the Christian is not rotten, the smell of the Christian is the smell of resurrection. But the question is, how would they meet? Here are the crushed dreams, here is the Christ risen, how will it connect? How could the crushed dreams come closer to the Christ risen? How could the Christ risen go closer to our crushed dreams? Let’s look at the Gospel. What did Jesus say to His disciples? “Go to Galilee, do not stay in the tomb, go to Galilee.” What is Galilee? The Galilee is where their dreams were born. The Galilee is the cradle of their dreams. Meaning to say, if your dreams are ruined, crushed, go back to where you started your dreams, go back there. And when you go back, you will find the Lord. The Easter? That is the Resurrection. Return to your Galilee where to started dreaming. Return to Galilee, the cradle of your hopes, the cradle of your dreams and when you return to the cradle, you will see simplicity of life. Didn’t you noticed that when we were declared on lockdown, we immediately bought things. What did we buy? Did we buy house and lot? Did we buy new car? Did we buy stocks in the stock market? Did we buy gold bars? No! What did we buy? Toilet paper, vegetables, fruits, canned goods, sardines, because we know that in our hardships in life, these are the only things we need. We don’t need additional house and lot, we don’t need additional car, we don’t need additional stocks in case prices would go up, we don’t need additional jewelries. What we need is clean air. What we need is food. What we need is that we have somebody to love and somebody is loving us. Covid-19 and this quarantine has led us to our Galilee. It has led us to the cradle of our dreams, our simple dreams, our baby dreams, our childlike dreams that had been corrupted by a corrupt world. Now is the time to return to our Galilee. But, is it only Galilee? Also, no! The gospel today is about two disciples going to Emmaus. What is Emmaus? They were not from Emmaus. Emmaus during the times of Jesus is like Clark, like Subic, like Disneyland. Emmaus during the time of Jesus is swimming pool, it is Tundaligan Beach, it is Lingayen Beach, it is Hundred Islands. Meaning to say, when they were grieving they just wanted to go to the spa, when they were so sad, they just wanted to go on excursion, when they were so much lonely, they just wanted to replace that loneliness, they just wanted to do some recreation to forget the pain. But it seemed like Jesus prevented them and telling, “Don’t go there to replace your dreams”. Do not solve your broken dreams by empty recreation. Do not heal your crushed dreams by fleeting pleasures, by an excursion, by a drink, by fun. No, he told them, look at your dreams again, look at the prophesies of old again, remember what God has done in the past. Go back there and your dreams would be restored, what you are hoping to be your future will be rebuilt. My dear brothers and sisters, here are crushed dreams that is our story, here is Christ Risen that is the message of the season. And here is the cradle of our dreams. When we return to the cradle of our dreams, the dreams will rise up again, and our eyes will be opened and we will see Christ again. Covid-19 had destroyed a lot, dreams, weddings were postponed, graduations were suspended, those who are going abroad were stranded, you wanted to buy something yet you could not buy. It destroyed a lot, it ruined a lot, many are good, many are true, there are lots of goodness that were ruined because of this pandemic. But the other side of the story according to Jesus, “I am walking with you but you hardly noticed me,’ because you are always looking at the grave, you just wanted some recreation. You could not go back to your dreams, to your grave or to your hobbies, but you can go back if you would go to where you started your dreams, where you started, in your Galilee, you will find me again and together we will rise up again, we will make your crushed dream new again, we will make your broken hopes new again, by the power of the Risen Lord, our hope is in the Lord and we will not be disappointed.

Fr. Marcel, im so glad that my effort would be of help to somebody.. it is my everyday prayer to God, that i may be able to help someone.. that's why i started translating Bishop Soc's homilies..
