I use to have a leopard gecko and wasn't the best at taking care of her. So I wanted her to have a better home so made the hard decision to give to someone who I knew would take good care of her. So I highly recommend doing your research before getting a pet. It is more important than you may think.

I got to hold a python (with 9 other kids) when I was around 8. A reptile guy came to our local library. It was an amazing experience. I think that's the first memory I have of having such a love and interest in all types of animals.

Same here, down to the library part! I think it was a burmese python, and the people wrapped it around me. It was so heavy that when they unwrapped it I spun in circles haha. A decade later and I have a snake and 2 geckos :)

Same here! I don't what species she was, though. A reptile guy came to my school when I was in first grade. He brought several snakes and a couple iguanas. The biggest snake was Sue. It took about 7 of us lined up along her body length to try to lift her. I remember not being able to get my hands completely around her! She was huge! That was an incredibly formative experience for me because I've never been afraid of reptiles since. Maybe an arachnid guy sound have come, too. Lol.

In Australia you need a permit to own a reptile, which reduces the instances of impulse buys, and protects native species. And the types of reptiles you can have are specified by your license (like, my dad can legally keep turtles, but not snakes)

Daisy is definitely impressive. At the end, is she actually just holding onto you on her own without you supporting her with your hands? If so, that's some insane muscle strength right there (and pretty dexterous for having no limbs).

Fun fact, most snakes can climb, either by using the wedge strategy where they brace parts of their body in a tight vertical space, reach up, brace again, pull their lower part up to re-brace, and repeat, or, the larger species can climb stable cylindrical objects with a constricting ring method. It's fascinating to watch, highly recommend googling up gifs of it.

Boas can definitely do that. In fact they're so big most ppl have rules not to handle any snake bigger than they are without a second person. But lots of ppl like holding boas bc it does feel like they're putting pressure back, like it's calming for them.

Legless lizards have eyelids and external ears. They have no grip on their ventral scales and are rendered immobile on a flat surface. Most interestingly, they have very long tails--up to 2/3 of their total body length--while snakes have comparatively short tails.

Hi Jessi, I love all these videos and I appreciate all the work you do for these animals. I live in Michigan, and one of my favorite local animal rescues is being forced to shut down. They are called the Organization for Bat Conservation in Pontiac, and their various species of bats and other animals need new homes, and fast. I want to help but I don’t know what I can do except reach out to someone who I know would have the resources to help better than me. I want all these wonderful creatures to continue living happy healthy lives and teach people that bats are nothing to be afraid of. I know you may not have the space to take in any animals, but if you know anyone who would it could save a life. Again, you do such amazing work for these animals in your care. They are so lucky to have you all at Animal Wonders!

BookishLish I get so sad when I hear of a rescue closing down. Usually the animals are the ones that suffer the most. Thank you for doing what you can to help. I hope the best for all invloved. Depending on the animals in need and the requirements for space and care, we might have some resources to offer. If you know who to contact I can reach out and see what we can do.

AnimalWonders Montana Hi Jessi, thank you so much for responding to me. The organization can be found on Facebook as The Organization for Bat Conservation and Save the Bats; this is where they are making public updates. Unfortunately I don’t know how to personally contact any of the members, but their website is batconservation.org. I would think that the best person to ask for would be Dawn Vezina, the education specialist and program administrator. I’m sorry I can’t provide more information than that, but I so appreciate you taking the time to look into this. It means the world to me.

I visited a friend who's housemate was, I think an exotic animal vet, she also had a few rescue reptiles in her place too. One was a blue tongued skink that was my favourite. She was rescued without toes, so she was a little clumsy, but totally charming personality still. She liked watching us and if we ever moved out of her sight we could hear her wiggling about and looked over to find her staring at us from a new vantage point. Super curious and friendly. I was charmed, never met a lizard like that before, but maybe I've never noticed them closely enough until now.

I used to have a leopard Gecko named Eleanor Roosevelt, who was already sick when we got her. We gave her a great sized cage, items she could hide in, and toys. Obviously a sun lamp, since they are desert creatures. She lived with my mom and I for two years before she passed away. We weren’t sure how old she was, but we had tried our best to nurse her back to health. I believe my mom and I gave her a wonderful two years, by socializing with her, Giving her toys, a good sized cage, etc. Now we’re currently more experienced, and we have two rats, Gracie and patches. I am very proud to share my experiences and watching this channel is very inspiring to be a zoologist. My final words are to Do research, ask someone with experience, and Know the commitment you are going to make when getting an exotic, or any animal,

When I have my own house I'm definitely getting a bearded dragon, they're so sweet! I love all of those so much, I would love to see your presentations. Also, the one person who disliked this must have a sad life without liking animals :(

Do reptiles like being pet or scratched like other types of animals? Does it depend on the individual?

Jen C depends on how tamed they are. My bearded dragon likes cuddling because we are warm

Reptiles don't actually enjoy it. They will tolerate being petted and cuddled, and they'll quite happily sit with you if they feel safe, secure or nice and warm if they're tame enough.

I had a corn snake for 15 years and I wouldn't say she "liked" being held, but she seemed fine when I basically just served as a "warm tree" for her. She liked to curl up in my armpit since it was extra warm.

Every time when someone asks me "what's your favourite animal?" I always say 'all reptiles', I love every single reptile from small snakes to the Komodo Dragon, some may want me dead but that's fine ^^ As a dragon on the internet I think this love for reptiles kinda suits me lol
