The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the major men's professional basketball league in North America, and is widely considered to be the premier men's professional basketball league in the world. It has 30 teams (29 in the United States and 1 in Canada), and is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB),[2] which is recognized by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in the United States. The NBA is one of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. NBA players are the world's best paid athletes by average annual salary per player.[3][4]
The league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA).[1][5] The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with its rival National Basketball League (NBL). The league's several international as well as individual team offices are directed out of its head offices located in the Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in New York City. NBA Entertainment and NBA TV studios are directed out of offices located in Secaucus, New Jersey.
The NBA originated in 1946 with 11 teams, and through a sequence of team expansions, reductions, and relocations currently consists of 30 teams. The United States is home to 29 teams and one is located in Canada.
The current league organization divides thirty teams into two conferences of three divisions with five teams each. The current divisional alignment was introduced in the 2004-05 season. Reflecting the population distribution of the United States and Canada as a whole, most teams are in the eastern half of the country: thirteen teams are in the Eastern Time Zone, nine in the Central, three in the Mountain, and five in the Pacific.
The Boston Celtics have won the most championships with 17 NBA Finals wins. The second most successful franchise is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have 16 overall championships (11 in Los Angeles, 5 in Minneapolis). Following the Lakers, are the Chicago Bulls with six championships, all won over an 8-year span during the 1990s. The San Antonio Spurs have five championships, all since 1999, and the Golden State Warriors also have five championships overall (2 in Philadelphia, 3 in Oakland).

LeBron is clutch but here are the reasons there is a narrative around him not being clutch: 1) MJ is the GOAT - he was known for taking jumpshots - his highlights are played over and over so people have a sentimental feeling about it. LeBron makes the right play, either he takes a jumpshot, a layup, or passes to the open man. A layup is not sexy as MJ's jumpshot but if it wins the game it wins the game. The playoff stats now show LeBron has more game winning shots than MJ. So from visuals people have a bias, but in actual plays and stats, LeBron is on par. 2) LeBron is in the social media era so his faults as a player can be emphasized and video clipped together by people who hate him. MJ and Kobe didn't experience this, Kobe a little towards end of his career. LBJ is the most scrutinized player ever. He is also breaking the mold people love which is MJ and Kobe. He does it all on the court, only true basketball fans understand the impact of what he does on the court, casual fans see a sexy jumper from MJ and Kobe and think thats what makes them the best. 3) Hyperbole Sports Talk - Skip Bayless started this, on a daily and weekly basis he talks about Lebron and unfairly criticizes him - not saying he can't criticize him - but he nit picks and is not fair in comparisons. MJ and Kobe had faults, but there was no large scale coverage like this when they played.Kobe got a bit of it, but LeBron more 4) The Decision - People still hold hate over the decision tv special, which was of course a bad idea on LeBron's part.
