2. "Why are there 2 'F' keys?" - Just a draft printing error
3. "There's no SID chip!" - It's recreated in the FPGA chip or you can add new ones like SwinSID.
4. "Why not just put Cherry MX keys on it?" - They don't fit the special keys like Return, Restore, Shift, Space. See MechBoard website for details.

You might consider designing a set of 3D printed basis that go directly from the MX keys to your key caps. If printed in ABS (much harder to get the fit right), they could even be placed in a quick acetone vapor bath to smooth them out. Wouldn't look original, but could look professionally made.

As an old C-64 user back in the day, this video has sparked a desire to go back to those days when I had three SX-64's and possibly two dozen C-64's and the 64-C models along with many 1541, 1571, 1541II and a 1581. Oh and hundreds, possibly thousands of programs and games. I miss it. I even modified one 64 to use two SID chips to play six part music programs. Sadly I gave it all away! I was involved in many user groups spanning two states. Please continue these videos.

It was great to watch this when it premiered. As a 22-year old, I've only ever messed with the C64 (and other systems) in an emulator, but I always like seeing videos like this and hearing stories from people older than me who actually had these when they were still in production. Great video as always! 👍🏽

While I'm old enough (at age 40) to have remembered using a relative's C64 as a kid, it wasn't nearly as popular here in Canada (or the US) as it was in Europe and other regions back in the day. As a result, most of my exposure to it has also been through emulation, so it's always fun to see what kinds of stuff people were doing and are currently doing with them, as it was quite a machine in its heyday.

Quite the thing. The only time I saw a c64 in action in person, which was already somewhat past it's peak, would've been my friend who had one (and a bunch of amigas) but this was already the early 90's... That was maybe 1-2 days that I saw it in action. I'm old enough to remember these systems on the tail end, but my personal experience consisted entirely of atari 800XL's... Even that was a strange experience in hindsight, since I experienced the entire thing through a monochrome green monitor, such that nowadays I barely recognise the games when I see them in colour... XD

There was a Commodore C64PC Ultimate about 10 years ago, by Commodore USA. It was actually just a modern PC in a 64 replica case with Ubuntu. I bought one, and the keys were nearly identical to original 64, including that hand painted quality of the letters. Infact the whole case was very close to the original. The guy who bought Commodore passed away, and the company with him, but the ability to mass produce C64 keys is presumably still out there somewhere

In addition to your cool LEGO version I hope to see a label version, stamped on a 3D printed upper, lower case as Perifractic 64, with all modern mini itx. As Commodore USA offered similar to purchase some time ago, maybe three versions, a retro game label as "beginner", "novice", "expert" would be a neat retro game twist added to the case.

It's funny how the 64C's keycaps used such an iconic font that's usually associated with logos and titles-and didn't use it anywhere in their packaging or advertising, but instead continued using Kabel. It's also interesting that the (non-PET) font they used on the breadbox models has yet to be identified. No, seriously; do a search for it and you'll find a lot of people discussing it but having no luck finding a perfect match.

Peri's voice has never affected me that way, I remember One of Peri's first video. It was when he put not one but 2 wall wart type adapters in a box to build a C64 power supply! I told him then to buy some tools that would hurt him (Not from the dollar store!) and I told him to practice! I see my words didn't go unheard! Anyone who tries and works as hard as Peri Fractic deserves a great following! I've been a fan ever since! So to him and you Keep Going Your Doing Great! Never Stop and never let anyone tell you, you can't do something that is important to you! A big thank you from this part of the Retro Community! And Please Stay Awake! You might miss something Great!

LOL I know the song that line is from ;) one of my FAVs; though it gives a bad light on our beloved 64... but you have to see it as comparisation (OMG is that a word?) between C64 CPU speed and the other computer's speed... and that computer is a antique by itself, now... :D but the C64 goes on and on and on and on and...

Could there be a similar treatment for the Atari 8-bit computer? A 400 or 800 conversion would be alright, but the extras in the later models -like the 130XE with its bank switching memory- also make them very good candidates!

@@RetroRecipes I wish I could tell you! I also only ever had the 400 - later adding a "B-Key 400" upgrade. It was a good machine to learn 6502 Assembler on, and one retro system I still enjoy messing around with on occasion. I just can't get enough of "display lists" and "player/missile graphics." In fact, when I'm not thoroughly swamped in managing the Marlin Firmware project, I'm trying to improve the current toolset for retro coding with a polished version of bAtariBASIC (2600) and tools for working with AtariBASIC in modern editors like Sublime Text 3. With any luck, by the end of the week I'll have a perfected ATASCII to UTF-8 converter completed. The retro coding tools on macOS have a lot of catching up to do compared to their Windows counterparts. github.com/thinkyhead/6502-Tools

There's the 1088XEL and 1088XLD. But they aren't using the same form factors as the original computers. The XEL is using a Micro-ITX form factor for its motherboard and the XLD is using the same form factor as the Atari 1050 Disk Drive's motherboard. There's an interesting video on KZread of both networked together in a MIDI ring to play 8-bit MIDI Maze together.

I still have a C64 and an Amiga500, in original, well-used beat-up condition (from the years that I used them, 1984-1992) along with a 1541 drive, a cassette drive, and much more, stashed in boxes. I am 48 now but I hereby pledge I will restore them before I become 60. They are part of a handful of items to survive a "Purge"(for lack of a better word, and certainly not by choice) in my personal life. The only time these machines leave me is when I am dead.
