The 1958 is what the new 4 Runner SR5 should have been. Everything is in the same place as the current model. tires, gate, gate struts, tonneau cover, wheel humps, suspension, hoist points, tow connection and hitch are all exactly where the 2003 to 2023 4 Runner had them. It's the same vehicle, now more expensive bc it reads Land Cruiser. The consumers get a leaser Lanc Cruiser and a lesser 4 Runner if we get one at all.

@@nomenclature9607 At this point in time, MSRP is basically a bait and switch. We’ll see what people actually end up paying. I’m unsure at this time, but I would assume the ability to lift and and make suspension modifications will be pretty limited on hybrid drivetrains. I’m sure these will sell well, but most likely not to people who intend to use it as it’s being marketed. Either way I would prefer something I can wrench on and repair myself and have no interest in hybrid or electric drivetrains of any type. Just my personal preference.

Ford made a mistake with the Bronco rollout. After they announced its relaunch as a hard-core off-roader, they released the Bronco Sport, causing confusion. ToyotaUSA seems to have done something similar by dropping the Prado name, which has cause criticism and disappointment with the public that knows the main line Land Cruiser, but nothing about the Prado, which is a reliable and capable vehicle in its own right.

Does it really need a six cylinder though? It has more power than the current GX460's 4.6L V8. The only reason I could see wanting a V6 is for the same power output without the turbo, but then people would complain about mileage like they have with the 4Runner and GX460s.

  • @SunnynPhilly

I’d pick an optional NA 4L V6 over a hybrid or turbo engine. 4Runners with the 4L are hitting half a million miles on the original motor.

As a previous owner of two LC's and a GX, it's very sad to see that Toyota management continues to ignore their customers and simply shoves 4 cylinder turbos and hybrids into everything now. Turbos will NEVER be as reliable as naturally aspirated lower stressed engines. This LC should come with V6 NA and hybrid options, minimum. I think Toyota will regret these decisions that were made by incompetent management later on when their reputation of building reliable 3-500k powertrains is ruined by all the turbo repairs and battery replacements. Serious fail.

Legendary. From the iconic Calty design studio which also designed the gorgeous Lexus SC300/400 and the Tahara assembly plant responsible for the lexus GS300/400 lineup among the 4runner, celica, lexus LS and GX/LX models. I'm quite in awe over this one and think the "Landcruiser" model with the swaybar disconnect and square headlights does it for me. A mixture of homage from the 60s series, The toyota FJ Cruiser and big brother 4runner appearance. I think you knocked it out of the park Toyota! I hope I can afford it, and dealers will have enough stock to supply demand without radical mark-ups.

Absolutely. I have a ‘94 LC, the last year of the straight six. 118K and it runs just fine for me, and will go anywhere! No way I’d get this new model. They stressed the body style more than the drive train. Resembles the way overpriced Bronco’s. The older bodies, with their powerful over built, reliable, and long lasting drive trains are what most all of us are looking for. Toyota has bought into all this climate, and green BS, so we’ll all suffer with lots of fluff and degraded power trains that will be overloaded and most likely short lived?

If you don’t like this LC vote with your pocket book and don’t conform to the herd mentality.
