This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid compact SUV. The Honda CR-V hybrid has a 2L 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with Honda’s new 4th generation hybrid system featuring a pair of electric motors. It’s matched to an E-CVT and has a combined 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD in Canada, FWD and AWD options are available in the US.
This Honda CR-V hybrid not only offers practicality and good fuel economy, but it has a comfortable drive, a quiet cabin and plenty of power and torque. The active noise cancellation system and sound absorption features added to the cabin really creates a pleasant driving experience. This new Honda CR-V hybrid has a little less horsepower but more torque compared to the outgoing model
There is just one Honda CR-V hybrid trim in Canada, the Touring model and it starts at $48,890 CAD. It comes with the larger 9” touchscreen with Navigation, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 7” driver display, wireless charger, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, heated steering wheel, power front seats, driver seat memory, heated front and rear seats, leather trimmed upholstery with orange accents, a moonroof and a hands-free power tailgate.
In the US, there are two Honda CR-V trims, Sport and Sport Touring. The Sport comes with the smaller 7” touchscreen, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, power driver’s seat, cloth seats with orange stitching, heated front seats and a moonroof. You can add a heated steering wheel to this trim for $460 and a wireless charger for $350. The top trim comes loaded with all the same features the Canadian top trim has.
The Sport FWD model starts at $32,450 USD, AWD $33,950 USD and Sport Touring AWD $38,600 USD.
The CR-V hybrid gets 6L/100 km, 40 MPG city and 6.9L/100 km, 34 MPG highway
It can tow 1,000 pounds and Honda offers a warranty of 3 years or 60,000 km/36,000

@@andreaspencer9813 this is why I got a 2020 corolla LE back in 2020 instead of 2020 civic LX because of pricing. Honda dealership wanted $33k Canadian after all calculations calculated for a 5 year term financing back then with almost 2 percent interest then. At toyota I got it for $22.7k for same time frame at 1.09% interest. Trim by trim I got more value from toyota.

Your timing on this video is impeccable, thank you! My parents just recently bought a CR-V Touring Hybrid. I've yet to try it out but I wanted to find out more about it. I have a 2022 Maverick XL Hybrid (~$28,000 CAN) and I'm getting fuel economy numbers similar to the Ford Escape Hybrid ones that you noted in the video; 5.5 L/100 km in Summer with stock tires/wheels, about 6 to 6.5 L/100 km now that I have Winter tires and temperatures are just below 0 C. The Maverick shares most of its guts with the Escape. Yes, I understand these are two different buyers we're talking about between the Maverick XL and the CR-V Touring, but those are some stellar fuel economy numbers coming from Ford. I'm just hoping that my Ford offers me the longevity that Toyota and Honda have been well known for.

I left Honda as a consumer in the past as I felt they got over complacent and might I say arrogant on their brand. Often dealers would say “well it’s a Honda” Then there was a correction from them to catch up but now their back to the bad pricing vs features. Also I don’t feel reliability is as good a it used to be, my 1991 civic ran forever! Great Video guys I appreciate your honest non-biased reviews

Seems to me that Honda has caught onto what is happening at the dealerships with "market adjustments" to MSRP, especially on hybrids, and decided they want a piece of this. Unfortunately, they may have timed thier price increase very poorly as interest rates rise and people have plenty of options when it comes to more affordable electrified options. Banking on brand loyalty is an interesting strategy.

Alex on Autos does a more in depth analysis of the hybrid system and draws comparisons to the gas CRV and other hybrid suvs. Just note: the hybrid CRV also has more stuff than the top non hybrid(in Canada). So a true value comparison gets murky simce you can't compare costs of two otherwise identical vehicles. My take: if you can swing it, take the hybrid. I think Toyota and Hyundai/Kia have better value and a better hybrid. But even the Honda hybrid system saves gas.

The gas engine will direct clutch it’s single gear ratio somewhere in the 74kph range all the way through highway speed and then cycle on and off as it charges and discharges the battery. In town the engine will run as a generator when it’s needed cycling on and off. Worked great in the accord we had.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 does NOT have Wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto, remote start, hands-free lift gate or fog lights. 4. Not all trim levels of the Toyota RAV-4 have a hands-free lift gate or remote start. Only certain Trims have ventilated/cooled seats and as recent as 2020, supported ONLY Apple Carplay but NOT Android Auto. It's now 2023 & only a few upper level trims like the Premium XLE or Hybrid XSE have these features, but I'm not clear on whether one trim level has ALL the bells & whistles. Is there a mid-size SUV Goldilocks/Unicorn vehicle that has all of the following; 1. Ventilated seats. 2. WIRELESS Apple Carplay/Android Auto with a WIRELESS charger. 3. Remote start (without an app or a paid subscription). 4. Hands-free lift gate. 5. Fog lights.

That all depends on how much driving a person does. If someone has a long commute or does long trips now and then, the money difference can be recouped easily in 1-2 years, since the difference in price is only about $1,300 not to mention saving even more money longer than that, many can save $100 a month and then their second year, they are saving completely on the cost of the hybrid. For me, it was that and the much quieter ride around town and the less trips to the gas station, especially on trips out of town.

Yes.. As for the Lexus NX 350... I would get something else than the NX 350, because there is so little room.. Even the new RX 350 is pretty uncomfortable due to less interior space and a lower roof. Unfortunately, Lexus and Toyota and even Mazda seem to be giving us less room and lower rooflines (and poor outward visibility) with every new model.

For slow speeds it will drive on the electric motor and then switch to engine and even on fast speeds if you release the acclerator the engine turns off. A great Hybrid SUV with tons of features packed in (including a panoramic sunroof), and I absolutely love the engine and drive-train. Interesting to see what Honda came out with, but they are charging too much for what you get. Mind you, I didn't just stroll into my dealership and pick my Hybrid SUV off the lot... @@ghenry85 Well I dunno about every other Hybrid out there, but Hyundai in the US offers three different trims of the Tucson Hybrid... my "SEL w/convenience" is the MEDIUM trim of the Tucson Hybrid. The three trims are the: Tucson Hybrid Blue starting at 31K Tucson Hybrid SEL starting at 34K Tucson Hybrid Limited starting at 39K So you can get a Hybrid SUV for about 31K and for the engine upgrade alone (in HP and gas savings) it's a small premium over the gas Tucson counterparts. For me personally, I think the SEL mid-trim is really the one to go with, it offers a lot more than what the Blue offers, and most of what the Limited offers for far-less than the Limited. Of course opinions are personal, and if you are really trying to save money, there's nothing wrong the Blue trim on the Hybrid Tucson.

So, is this new CR-V Hybrid's system different in operation to that of the 2014 Accord Hybrid's system? I owned the Accord Hybrid and the engine did drive the wheels directly (through an electric clutch) above ~45mph, depending on demand. From your description it sounds like it's now only a serial hybrid system in operation at all times. With my '14 Accord Hybrid the engine would come on for a bit, then shut off, then start up again when needed. Was pretty easy to see >50mpg when taking it easy with that system.
