I used to have the Maersk train and then broke it and never rebuilt it. Disappointed in myself. Now it'd take me forever to collect all of the pieces from MOCs and bins of parts and rebuild it.

My Emerald Night went that way somewhat. The boiler, tender, and coach are all still in their box-built forms, but I took out the wheels and some of the smoke deflector parts to build my Iron Titan moc. Lego, please bring back the good trains. Or better yet, make a separate theme of sets based solely around trains (one name for it could be "LEGO Railways") and let the fans design them. My pitch: Iron Titan G-8017 (PRR #6101) 6-4-4-6 duplex steam locomotive Based on PRR class S-1 #6100 locomotive

@@raihanalifsanjaya4577 The crocodile doesn't come with Powered Up, it's ready for it, but you have to buy it and install it yourself. And it doesn't come with track because it's supposed to be a display train, not a train that you run on tracks. Sure, it can run on tracks, but it was not the principal purpose.

Correction the Emerald Night was the ONLY great one they ever made, the rest have been largely garbage. Some honorable mentions go to the Christmas village train locos, and the Disney one but that was like a $350 set for crying out loud! But I agree Lego definitely needs to make a "Trainz" series though, maybe similar to the Speed Champions in that they'd release 6 or so sets a year, I'm thinking keep it simple though, a steam engine + tender as the "big" set $99 or so price tag, then some cars/caboose as the less expensive sets. Maybe throw in a diesel or electric train here in there as long as it's somewhat UNIQUE and I don't mean different color pallets of what is largely the same train... i.e. what they've done with passenger and cargo trains as of late. Heck wouldn't even need them motorized, just make them big enough that if you want to do it you can do it without fundamentally changing too much.

@@Mike__B any opinion on the Croc Loco? I had the Night as a kid, and am thinking of buying one sealed for $800 it’s just my favorite Lego kit of all time. I have the Maersk Train which I bought for $550 sealed. Say what you want but I love the trains and they’ve only made a total of 4 creator expert trains since the Night. That being said, I thought the horizon express was one of the ugliest trains made by Lego. I didn’t like the orange, and it just looked bad, almost like a Lego city train IMO. However, once I saw the Croc, I was so excited. I know it’s a hybrid but we still get some steam elements within the set. I bought three of them because I love it, and we all know what the prices go once these trains retire!

@@johneasterday6112 Literally just finished building the croc yesterday with my kid as a Xmas present "for him". There's some good and some bad, but here are my initial thoughts. tl;dr at the very end if you want to skip all my comments. It definitely has a weird look to it, as you mentioned some steam elements are in there with the rods connected to the wheels, the wheels themselves are big spoke style of steam engines, looking at the real deal it definitely looks a lot like it, however the fact there are huge gaps between the three pieces is not what it really is the real train is a solid construction, I totally get it though there's no way the super tight turns of lego track could allow it to go if it was a single solid structure and can't exactly put those big steam wheels on a swivel base seems that the fix would have been really easy to hide the gaps a bit better. I do like that the interior is built such that it easily comes out, and you can pop in a motor if you want to make it go under it's own power, compared to the Hogwarts Express which requires some major redesigning. I didn't have any of those motors handy so couldn't see how well it runs with them. I did try pulling it with the high speed rail loco, and it does ok on straight parts but gets bogged down on curves. Could be because of the wide wheel separation of the middle section with the relatively tight turn radius of lego track mixed with the gearing inside which does add a non-insignificant amount of friction to the movement, which could be powered through I'm sure with a motor inside. There is a really nice alternative build of a steam engine + tender, but I can't justify $18 for instructions myself. And don't know enough (any) Lego friends such that we could split the difference on it and share. Finally, I love the fact there's exactly one sticker, just for the display plaque info, although there's not a ton of other elements that come with stuff on them, but I was happy for not needing to apply stickers. Lastly wasn't a fan of the instructions, the thing is mostly a dark brown and the book is a black background made it very difficult to read at times in the light of my living room. So overall, I think it's a great set for what it is. It scratches that itch of a train that isn't a boring smooth cylindrical profile train that seems to be the go-to for Lego. The price at $100 is absolutely perfect for what you get, not having it motorized out of the gate means you're not paying a bloated price for motors you may already have (or can get elsewhere for cheaper) which is really nice considering the pieces Lego suggests are parts they already retired! If I had it as a display piece I'd probably mod it a bit to make it one solid unit, but kiddo has to play with it. so it is what it is.

This gave me some nostalgia when i was 5-9 years of age. I remember having the Metroliner and that Red cargo train, along with the Yellow one from 1994. I was 8 years of age back in 94. I still fondly remember playing with these Lego train sets up until around 1997, I lent it to a friend of mine whom also enjoyed playing with it. He fave it back to the same year, then I never played with them again while growing up. I ended up handing the, down to my nephew since then. I am now 36 years old. In the early 90's my mommy was just little that she got the 2150 Train Station in 1996 at age 12, At the time in 2011 one of the figures she had was in the drawer of the TV stand that she switched out accessories of the figure that I had to give to her to put in her storage unit, But until 1999, she got the Railway Express without transformer and speed regulator (4560), Much of the build she stored in her storage unit also before I was born, but when I got into trains, my first one at 25:34 was in Easter 2014, paid $130 on Amazon to buy it and the extra track. Loved it so much but I got it stored. I got like almost every train in 2018 year, I got the Cargo Train (60198) still in its box.

27:45 was my first lego set and is my favorite and i have it still have it i got it for Christmas when i was 3 (2012)and then i lost all of the peices and broke it so 5 years later (2017) i got it again for Christmas and i made sure to me orise the instructions and put it in a safe and i play with it here and there but then in 2019 i got another one for my birth day but it was different because it was not monster hunter it was hidden side and the hidden side set was amazing but still could not be better then OG 2008 monster hunter ghost train.😁👻🚂

I happened to receive a giant collection of train sets and this was one of them (it had a lot of cars can’t remember) and was fortunate enough to be able to set up these trains and run them.(I was around 9 years old in around 2012 so this experience was absolutely phenomenal) the collector had given us these trains to donate and I helped put little sets together for the kids :)

That being mostly due to the fact steam was still very prevalent over in Europe, wasn't until the late 60s that steam disappeared completely, so they got a good run while it lasted

I think you made a mistake with set 133. Set 133 was a 'push along' and could be converted to work with 4.5V motor. It was not compatible with 12V as shown in the video.
