All It Takes Is Once - FAA 16mm Training Film (1968)

Even the best of pilots can be distracted in flight by preoccupation with personal problems. Mental distraction is a serious flight hazard. Five psychological problems frequently encountered by general aviation pilots are dramatically presented.

Commentator at the start sounds like Ed Bishop. UK we know him most for tv series UFO. These training films are like mini stories, better than being lectured to.

Gets in the passing lane 80 ft behind the next car? Yeah...he’s a pilot. Love how he tells his 12 year old to “call the garage and tell them to hurry it up!” “Sure thing dad...you just sit there on the back door, I’ll get right on it.”

The old Flying W Ranch outside PHL. N14. The pool was shaped like an airplane. Bill Whitesill founded it. I haven't heard that name in 30 years.

Thanks for the info on N14. I checked it out on Google maps. The airport looks like it's still a going concern. There are some good street view photos of it. The swimming pool is still there. billypenn.com/2016/08/07/why-this-south-jersey-resort-has-an-airplane-shaped-swimming-pool/

What nitwits guys were back then. In some countries I have been in they have observers that wave flags to warn the pilots pilots there landing gear is not down.

Ha..not just GA pilotsbut airline pilots too. Mayday or another sir disaster series...commercial jet flying to Little Rock trying to beat the storm via get-there-itis. Didn't end well. I would rather fly on a delayed commercial flight due to weather, no question.

I'm not a pilot just a woman who was a film student back in the day. I had to admit that when Carl's wife said "You've never even taken me for a ride up in your stupid little plane" My first thought was :"Gee Cora I wonder why"? My second thought was less pure. Carl should have taken his wife up in his plane and then figured out how to toss her out around 5k feet. I'm a mother so I understand if they had children that choice would have been horrible. You can't take a mother away from your children. Poor Carl....he was screwed.
