Gonzalo never ever stated he wanted Russia to defeat Ukraine. He always made a point of saying he wanted peace & he wasn't wanting one side or another to win. He was always careful about that. He was against fascism & attacks on civilian areas. Which proves what the Ukrainian forces are.

I totally agree. He had a different view of the origins and future of this war. He never favoured Russia in his opinions. He did mention several times that Ukrainian life’s should be saved and he was always sorry for the situation in Ukraine.

Laughable to say that usa is do concerned with human rights, democracy or freedom,when those same supposedly rights are violated everyday in the usa by politicians who legislate laws against their on their own citizens, the police who are to serve and protect are tyrants who are just to produce for the state , the justice system that had a conflict of interest in applying the law and justice. Lira did a video about his father and how much he hates him.

Mainstream corporate media always refers to Gonzalo as "Chilean" to make him appear as a "less worthy" citizen. I find Gonzalo as a typical American, except that his eyes are wide open when it comes to the governments around him.

What has happened to him and other journalists is shocking and the silence of our so called democratic governments and free press speaks volumes. Thank you Mr Galloway for facilitating that passionate and, moving appeal by Mr Gonzalo Lira Sr. There was a time when the situation and circumstances of his son were doubted by some critics - that he was not genuine - that he was exaggerating, or inventing his position and location. Perhaps this was because of a previous arrest and subsequent release last year. There were queries about why would they release him, allowing him continued access to the internet to transmit his views; views which were overtly critical of the Ukraine leadership and the war. However, I think we can now be certain that Mr Lira Jr is very real and genuine re his location and circumstances. Whether he was extremely brave, foolish, or both, it seems he was unable or unwilling to escape from the region and the dangers surrounding him. I didn't always agree with him but always enjoyed his broadcasts and viewpoints. The lack of intervention, or even comment by the US and Chilean governments is deeply cynical and beyond belief. I pray Gonzales Jr is alive and well - that he soon may be released to continue a lifestyle of his own choosing, among friends and family.

It's kind of ironic to have his dad speak out for him now since GL wasn't very kind to him whenever he referred to him and how it was growing up with him. Thank you for airing this important update! I've been praying for Gonzalo since he was taken. He always knew he was walking that thin line but chose to take the risk. He needs to get the heck out of Ukraine because of the kind of work he does! I truly hope the US embassy and other officials will protect his rights and give him opportunity to defend himself. My dear Mr. Galloway, I post here this comment because today, Thursday 3 August, we know Gonzalo is out and is trying to reach Hungary to seek asylum, but there are no news about him, about what happened and about what is going on with this terrible situation. Perhaps it's now time to support again his cause, perhaps he need some help, perhaps this is the moment to say loud and clear: hands off from Gonzalo!

To invoke human or civil right for Gonzalo and hope that US or Ukranian officials would be movdd Ed d to act benevolently in this case is to ignore reality.
