What I like about their relationship is that it feels so organic. It's a bond formed from years of being around, depending on and knowing each other. Even their interactions feel so natural like Astrid braiding Hiccup's hair or Hiccup planting that small kiss on Astrid's head.

Almond Ashton kind a looked ugly in the first movie

Their relationship sets an actual healthy example for the kids watching. It's one of the only trilogies/shows that take it slow. Their bond escalates step by step and becomes stronger as they mature. It teaches the viewer that relationships take time, effort, dedication and loyalty. They are literally real. The way they act around each other, the way they advise and feel pride for one another. It's all so real. It moves from childish spontaneous pecks to passionate and more intimate, romantic moments between the two. I love how the writers did everything possible to visualize something so important. From kids to grown-ups, everybody's got something to learn from this couple.

They are literally the best couple I’ve ever seen in an animated movie. (Maybe any movie ever) they both respect and treat each other like equals and they both have each other’s backs. When there’s a problem they talk about in a very laid back realistic way. They manage to show how a relationship should be without making it feel scripted or forced. Astrid isn’t just “Hiccup’s girl friend” she is her own character, and seeing them come together to get married and have children is honestly sop beautiful.

HTTYD has amazing facial and body language cues that are so accurate and realistic that i feel are lacking in majority of animations. But you can really see the animators understood because of the hand placements for these kisses. The waist holding, the way Hiccup puts his hand on Astrid's face/neck, it all makes it feel so much more realistic and intimate, and it makes it so much better :')
