I think the most beautiful thing about engineering is that no matter what program you end up choosing, you will always end up learning things from other specialties. As an electrical engineer who studied in Spain, I can say I have learnt a lot of stuff that were mentioned in this video about the mechanical, software, chemical and civil engineering which proves that you gain a lot of knowledge from a lot of different disciplines even if you think you are just focusing in one program

This is what I want to do, *Financial Engineering.* In the sense, depending what you’re doing, Software, Computer, and System Design Engineering being used for the financial industry. There’s a lot of variables to this, like I said like it’s not just as simple to explain as I’ve stated above. Another way to put it is applying the scientific method and science related things (econ, math, stats, cs, etc.) for the Financial Industry; you’ll mainly work with something in relation to stocks or stock trading. Another definition of Financial Engineering is creating/utilizing financial tools, literally anything with money and how it’s used, to the technology of block-chaining and credit. Hence, creating them and knowing how to implement them.

A few modifications I would suggest. Nuclear engineering is a category of its own. In electrical engineering you left out some key focus categories (semiconductor, digital design, power systems / transmission. Electromechanical). Systems Engineer isn't necessarily software based ; it's multidisciplinary and usually focuses around optimization and comprehensive problem solving (a mile wide and an inch deep). Lastly there are niche fields like test engineering. Quality engineering, metrology. Biomedical and others that deserve mention.

I do believe that almost every engineering is different if we consider the objective. But I guess the big 5 (maybe 4 because there would not be software without electricity) sums up the set of basic knowledge in each one. Also that he glossed over what electrical and software engineers design and Systems engineer is totally wrong (every complex multidisciplinary project could need a Systems engineer). Test and Quality are very linked to industrial engineering. Metrology is more linked to Instrumentation and Control engineering (I'm not sure if the States has a bachelor of that). But yeah, physics and nuclear engineering have very different objectives

What you should ask yourself before going into a college major is actually not what you WANT, but what society NEEDS. Our college & job system is extremely inefficient right now, it needs to be reformed for our new era of technology. We shouldn't keep pumping people into oversaturated & stagnant careers where they just copy/paste old blueprints of old technology. WE NEED NEW TECHNOLOGIES. The next big technologies that will most likely come out are; AIs, robots, & biotech (bionics, synthetics, genetics, better pharmaceuticals, & better bio scanning machines). As you can probably guess, these technologies will cause large changes to our society. Therefore, what we really need are actually smart, forward thinking politicians who aren't held back by religion, tradition, etc. to make smart & informed decisions when it comes to our new revolutionary AIs & biotech as well as cybersecurity. The decisions mainly come down to societal optimization measures, AI control laws (such as; requiring all robots to have tracking mechanisms, making it legal for AI & robot production companies to initiate a full recall if necessary, making it illegal for AIs & robots to form their own society), & more funding to government cybersecurity agencies. So, overall, we need political reform first, however, if you don't want to go into politics, then I would suggest the following fields because of the reasons I listed above; -pharmaceutical science -pharmacology -microbiology -tissue engineering -genetic engineering -bioengineering (aka biomedical engineering) -software engineering (or whichever field is specific to AIs (it might be called AI specialism, machine learning engineering, or data engineering)) -computer & network security professionals As a final note, I just want to mention that pharmaceutical scientists & pharmacologists are the ones who make & test drugs. It seems like it should be called pharmaceutical engineering, but that's actually a different field that involves making the machines required to make drugs.
