    Kieran Stark Same! I don't see cgi as an improvement, I see it as something different. Both hand drawn and cgi are two completely different arts. Hand drawn is practically dead now and cgi is way past overused at this point. I would have loved to see a hand drawn Zootopia or something.

    Call me crazy, but despite TLM beating ADGtH, I actually think Charlie is a better hero than Ariel. Both characters are quite selfish, but Charlie actually becomes a better person, and does something heroic to deserve his reward. Ariel, on the other hand, just gets rewarded for no reason. She wants that prince, and she gets him. No development or character growth whatsoever.

    Alec Foisy THANK YOU! Everyone is like 'Oh but Ariel had this dream of going on land before she met Eric and wants to break free from her Life of Royalty and she's just a teenager she didn't know better!' Um NO I'm not buying that. Even teens get disciplined and grounded when they go as far as Ariel does (eg rebelling and selling her soul to 'the devil' and putting the ocean in danger because of her hormonal desire for a hot guy) NOT REWARDED. Plus she did jack s*** in the climax to earn her reward and make up for what she did throughout the entire movie. Yes she apologises to her father, but goes back to mooning over Eric as if she didn't learn anything. Plus her flaws (eg her rebelliousness) are played off as 'cute and endearing' which kinda bugs me. Charlie may have been as selfish jerk in his film, but at least, like you said, did become a better person and his bad deeds weren't played of as 'cute or endearing'. And he to me is one of the better 'jerk with a heart of gold' type characters out there. *sigh* while the Little Mermaid had some good songs, I had a feeling those critics were too enamoured with the shoddy love story and the way Ariel was drawn, plus the scenes where Ursula turns her human if you know what I mean (which is PRETTY UNSETTLING considering she's only 16)

  • @alecfoisy58

    @alecfoisy58

    6 жыл бұрын

    Everyone gushes over how active she is compared to the previous princesses, but I don't think it counts, since she's only active for her OWN sake. The only unselfish heroic act she ever does in the whole film is when she saves Prince Handsome McBlandpants during the climax (the first time she saved him doesn't count, since she didn't know him and only helped him because he was a human). Even the comic reliefs accomplish more than her!

  • @christabelk16

    @christabelk16

    Alec Foisy I could forgive Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora for being passive as their films were made in the 1930s- 1950s, but while they were the almost submissive type, they, they are at least somewhat more likable. Ariel may have been more active than them, like you said she is only active because of her own selfish wants. Now, I don't mind if a selfish, maybe mean character, especially when they undergo changes like Charlie and even Kuzco, but if it's some brat Mary Sue (a sue who's 'flaws' are written of as cute and endearing) like Ariel I don't buy it.

    Ever sadder was the lack of justice in a pater-familicide like that - not only did Mr Barsi take his own life, but he was genuinely mentally ill by the sounds of it; Judith's success made him paranoid that his wife and daughter would leave him (a blue-collar worker) in the success, and he became violent and possessive, maybe even deluded. It's no excuse for his actions by any means, but it shows that there wasn't an easy target to blame unequivocally - even if he hadn't offed himself. Judith Barsi was probably as close to an angel as you could find in real life - sweet and upbeat, optimistic, and magnificent in her acting ability. Had the world not been robbed of her light and talent... just imagine; of course, it's even worse that she was robbed of her chance to see more of the world. :-(

    There is a reason for the tommy gun being turned into a ray gun. Due to the circumstances of Judith Barsi's death not too long after she finished her lines, that being her father shooting her while she was sleeping, it would have made the scene in question immensely uncomfortable to watch so they needed to edit it.

    For a moment or more, I thought you were gonna bring up the actresses' death for the rest of the video. Thank you for not doing so. When I was a kid, I always loved her character, cause it showed me that even in darker hours, such her own, there's always a light somewhere. And... I really don't want to talk about her demise. It just sinks a dagger in my heart just to know a nice girl such as her would be harmed by... Anyhow... Thanks for making this review. I didn't know about the deleted scenes. Never figured this film would be that dark.

    I hope more lost works of Don Bluth will be found and recovered because his work was very good when I was growing up I wish he'd didn't had those hard time during the late 1980's-1990's and earily 2000's he would been good as Walt Disney or and other Animators but he went through some hard times when it came to money I would doubt he would of wanted to work for Dreamwork because they weren't doing so well with 2d animation and they would switch to 3d animation it kind of sad that we don't see any new 2d movies anymore it would be nice to see a 2d movie once in awhile and not have 3d all the time. I get that 3d is fascinating in Movies but sometimes they get used too many times and you don't get enough time to take a break from them it would be nice to see a 2d movie for once just to take a break from 3d.

    All Dogs Go to Heaven still stubbornly refuses to leave my contending spot for Top Animated Film of All Time alongside The Lion King. it has a lot of flaws compared to many, many other animated films, including most Disney films and, obviously, stuff like Hayao Miyazaki's work, but there is something special about how well Burt Reynolds portrays a sleazy mean-spirited gambler who learns to love and give up a life of crime for the sake of a child. It's a literal redemption story, and one with such a great memorable cast. No other animated film had me literally fighting back tears during its denouement and ending when I saw it for the first time.

    I seen the sequel to this as well, and I must say, this might of been the biggest part of my childhood by a long shot. It shows my interest in animals, and it does show a lot of development to a character. The thing about this movie when I watched it as a kid was I thought that it was kinda.... dark for me to be watching at such a young age. I mean like, the dogs are at a bar, they are drinking and gambling, then the one dog I can't remember his name, ran over Charlie just to get rid of him for some reason I can't remember either, with a car. That is kinda a dark theme that the movie was going on. but either than that, it was still a good movie nonetheless.

  • @CeltycSparrow
    @CeltycSparrow4 жыл бұрын

    I honestly see this movie as a deep spiritual allegory. You see the beginning with the world riddled in sin. Drinking, gambling, Straight up murder when Carface chooses to off his partner Charlie. Then we see Charlie in "Heaven" and it is established that he (as well as all dogs) get a free ticket into Doggy Heaven because dogs are good and loyal and kind....but then we literally see Charlie's fall from grace when he chooses the metaphorical apple (i.e. the watch that represents his life). He takes the metaphorical apple and the angel dog tells him he can never come back into grace and for the rest of the movie we see Charlie struggle with the impending darkness. However, all hope is not lost for Charlie because he seeks redemption....I believe that Charlie's desire to save Anne-Marie from his villainous partner had an underlying motive. He sought to redeem his soul by saving her. And in the end, that's precisely what happens. Charlie is faced with a choice in the end.....does he save his precious life watch or does he save Anne-Marie. He chooses Anne-Marie and in so doing, his soul is restored and he is able to find peace from the darkness.
