ALL CRUISE PRICES GOING UP ON JULY 1ST - CRUISE NEWS.
On July first Carnival, Norwegian, Royal caribbean, and MSC cruise lines prices will seem to go up over night. What's happening is these cruise lines will be including taxes and port fees in their advertise pricing. this is because of a new law forcing the cruise line to do this in California.

This is a good start, but the cruiselines should also include gratuities in their upfront price, in my opinion.

Gratuities, along with anything else that is commonly added to the booking price, should be included. Imagine buying a car, and after being quoted a price you find out that they add $1k for tires. The dealer could simply explain that you don't have to buy the car with tires but most people do. The other option would be to stop with the gratuities, and pay staff a reasonable salary.

We can't ask too much. They still need a way to screw us over.

Agree, cruise lines should include tips in price also.
It’s been like this in Europe for years. The price you see is the price you pay no hidden extras.

Yes, I agree. I am sure that our American Cousins would like to see this policy transfer to other aspects of everyday life over there such as shopping . We are fortunate in Europe to have the clarity of pricing including taxes.
Finally, something that everyone can on board with is to disclose what the price will ACTUALLY be for a cruise instead of the “advertised price”.
The marketing teams have been very creative. Full disclosure is the best policy.
I’m glad they’re showing final totals up front. It’s so frustrating the way it’s done now.
As a cruiser for over 20 years, this should have been in place from the beginning. It is like the truth in lending where all costs should be rolled into the total bill. As far as sales, I agree with you that the cruise lines are being quite deceptive in their advertising. Thanks Don for showing the errors in their ways of Cruise Lines.
I’m glad they are putting everything on there. I’m always surprised with all that gets added on with the final bill. Thank you Don 😮
Full disclosure of the final price for cruising is long overdue. Thanks for clarifying your opening title.
I think the cruise lines having to advertise the total fair is a good thing. If they had to include the gratuities too, that would be even better!
More beneficial for the consumer to know all costs upfront.
Agree on checking out the prices across all cabin categories, we once got a nini suite for less than a regular balcony. It was on the Royal Princess and the mini suite was located mid ship. That was a no brainer to immediately book it. Thank you Don.
As a Californian I’m glad to finally see a helpful law.

First time for everything they say. May not be the first in CA, but it's rare.
This is a great thing. An actual good law coming from California is always a welcomed surprise

You’d be surprised what good laws you take for granted in your state originated in California and were copied by other states. Or, as in this cruise price transparency law, were applied nationally because of California law.
Cruise lines have been skating on this issue for decades, where airlines and other providers have had to disclose pricing, It's about time...

Now for the hotels to follow suit.
Just like it is for years already in Europe! We dont know it any other way.
Something that makes sense from the government of California? Finally!

This was a good change. They need to be upfront and transparent with pricing!!
In the past I would price out cruises I was interested in... one trick I found was that while they might advertise 30% off... if you track all the elements of the price... I found that while they have a discount...they also raise the gross price... resulting in essentially the same price as a previous ...less discounted deal. I love the California law for increasing transparency
NO more bait and switch!! I found out today that published prices are for NON REFUNDABLE fares!!
That’s great! I have always found that Norwegian Cruise Line port fee are approximately double than other cruise lines for similar cruises. They won’t be able to hide behind the base price anymore.

And they don’t even have that in the fine prints like in Royal. You find out the high taxes and port fees at the final step of booking paying the deposit!!

NCL was terrible with this issue. You would pick the room and then the price would literally add $1000 to the final total only AFTER putting everyone's name in it.
Full disclosure - what a concept!
Those cruise sales are like furniture sales; always on

Just like Princess BOGO on excursions. They raised the prices before the sale, and they are now more than when they first came out. Thanks for pointing this out to everyone.
The sale that isn’t a sale just give me the bottom line.
Is anyone else tired of the sensational clickbaitish titles I'm seeing more and more of on here? Prices aren't going up just because they disclose t he actual price as of July 1st. I hardly watch any of these videos anymore because of the clickbait titles.
Glad to have a heads up Don. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Don. Always was afraid to look at those port fees and taxes.
Thanks for the update Don!!
Yes, including taxes and gratuities for one price is a good idea. We need to budget for our cruises before sailing.
You are doing so well with your KZread channel, Don; so happy for you! I remember when you were worried that you wouldn't have 50K subscribers maybe two years ago. Now almost TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND subscribers!! You must be doing something right! Thank you for all your informative and truthful videos. Keep up the great work!
Great video Don! Thanks for giving us a lesson in searching and booking those cruise "great deals"!
Thank you for everything you do to always keep us in the know
I like it. I just finished paying my second cruise and realized how much I didn’t know was not included. My first one was just a small trip organized through a friend. Also it’s a good idea to review things BEFORE your trip. They randomly added an almost $400 charge after my final payment. I called yesterday to question it and they had no idea what it was. I can see people thinking it’s gratuities or something and just paying.
Thanks, Don, we appreciate your educational updates! We will continue to cruise with your Group Cruises, we feel you have our best interest at heart and look out for us! See you in December!🥰
That’s great! It’s about time…I’m always shocked at the final price. No more guessing anymore.
Thank You Don! This was perfect timing for this advice!!!
Thanks for the update
When I price a cruise, I always look at the drop down to see the total price detailed out including taxes.
NCL already started adding those fees. I just checked my booking for February and the new listed price includes those fees. Looks like the days of price drops are long gone.
I always ask my TA , "What is the amount I need to write on the check for payment in full"......simple!!!!
Great news! Never understood why taxes and port fees weren't included in the prices.
Keep up the good work don. Good info.
This is good...... So now I don't need to get all excited based on what I see online, only to get annoyed when I ask for specification when on a call. It's good to be upfront. Now if I see something affordable online I can actually be excited.
Just get it over with and add gratuities, soft drinks, specialty restaurants and coffees. Princess has the right idea with Premium Plus. Cruising with no worries or calculators.
Great content Sir!!!
Prices have gone up since Covid. I am choosing interior rooms and can only do 1 cruise per year. Since Princess and MCS has come to Orlando so I maybe able to cruise more. It definitely cost effective as there is no travel time
NCL has done it as of today. I was shocked when I saw the prices. I hadn't looked further than the base price. Now I just watched your video, checked and now I am happy. I am so glad this has happened
In the province of Quebec in Canada it’s been the law for many years to protect consumers
Thanks for the info. Good to know
We are glad to see this. Your right it will help us budget better for our cruises. Our TA gets us some pretty good deals. Those sales are good in some cases.
Appreciate the information!!❤
Good information thanks
I am so glad they are doing this. It has always seemed to go way up in price and you have to go through a bunch of steps to find out it’s more than you wanted to pay.
Always been like this in the UK. Once you've booked the taxes and port fees are itemised.
"Call to action," is what the "buy now or miss it" is called.
I think it is a great idea. Full disclosure of what the actual price is. I love it!
First time cruisers especially don’t know about fees and taxes.
I think that clear truth in advertising is a good thing
Great explanation of cruise pricing and sales.
Thanks for the Heads-Up
I am glad they are showing the prices up front because I hate the sticker shock when I go to book my cruise!
With those crazy prices I think I will be skipping cruising vacations for now!
Hi Don, really enjoyed meeting you on Majestic Princess
Great to know!❤
It’s about time they went to this type of pricing. Much more clear on what you will actually pay.
I noticed that on Vacations to Go site. On a Norwegian cruise they made note of that.
Whew I think that is a good idea . It's good to have all included .
I'm glad to see this improvement, fares could be confusing.
No change for me. I always look at the total after taxes. Thank you for such a detailed example for those that did not understand or look at the total price
Not a bad change-actually good for all to know totals in advance. Interesting how the interior was more expensive than the balcony!!
I always tell the booking agent to include all the fees as soon as I start the booking. And yes there is always a sales gimmick. People are easily fooled in to thinking they received a great deal only offered to them. Great video Don.
Great information
This should be on everything. Taxes should be included in every purchase for everything like most other countries
So happy the change is finally arriving. I believe the gratuties fee should also be included in the price even if in the rare instance where, once aboard, you might have the option to reverse all or part.
NCL has already updated their prices with the port fees and taxes. I was worried because I thought the prices had jumped so much, thank you for this info because I was so sad I had waited and missed the lower price but No they had just updated and included the port fees and taxes.
I noticed a change already on Carnival. I have the Cheers package in my favorites list and the price per day now includes the gratuities while previously it said $59.95 per person per day which is of course without the gratuities.
Appropriately comprehensive pricing seems quite reasonable. That said, I wish NCL would stop cost cutting and bring back their shows.
Keep up the good work!
Yay. That is the way it should be. I hate thinking I’m getting one price but end up with something more.
I'm happy!! Now, if Royal Caribbean would actual tell me what my Crown & Anchor discount is! LOL.
They should do this nation wide or even world wide to make it easier to understand and it can be better to plan our trips.
I have noticed when one sail ends another one starts.
I've seen a cruise with suites cheaper than interiors - was a last minute deal, but always check
You are so right about cruise lines showing a sale and hurry up and book cause it's going to end. It's all the time. What I hated one cruise line stated on their website a tab to include taxes and fees or not in price. So I clicked include fees. I ended up speaking to a cruise advisor and when she gave me the total price it was way way higher. She said port fees and taxes not included so that's with them. I told her about the tab stating you can include them. She said we'll they aren't included. So I hung up and booked a cheaper rate with another cruise line.
Thanks Don the new law should make things more clear and check all the options on cabins you never know what you may find.
You are so right about the port taxes.
It is about time, that they give their complete prices. We need to know, so we can compare and make the best decision. Cruising has gotten so expensive, that we can no longer afford to go every year.
I Totally agree its about time they show full price of the cruise full discloser is a good thing.
I like this change. I will change the value I look for when shopping, but it means fewer surprises as you make payments.
I wish they would do that with car prices too.
Corporations love client subsidized payrolls! Imagine all the money saved from taxes, benefits, insurance, etc.
Yes this a good thing. No surprises later.
This should be easy for Viking, since it is all inclusive. Port taxes are already included in the price.
glad their all doing it!!
Always a sale on the main page!!😂
Words to the wise.. If you are not a seasoned cruiser do not go it alone, always book through a reputable travel agent, you know like Don! 😊
I think it's a great idea. More transparency and fewer surprises.
It is a good thing and I also wish they would add their gratuities into the price also.
Good to know
It will be nice to see the total cost when looking at the advertised price.
