Springboks supporter here and when Sam Cane's yellow was upgraded to red I exploded...with rage! I wanted the entire final to be played with two full strength teams. I'm old fashioned and conservative maybe but I believe in strength vs strength and no excuses. I don't want to win by forfeit. Having said that, I believe the Cane red card galvanized the All Blacks and they really came hard at us for the rest of the game. Huge respect to the All Blacks. Always will be my favorite team unless they're playing the Springboks.

Both teams, South Africa and New Zealand, were given no chance to reach the final in the World Cup. South Africa got rid of France and the All Blacks from the Irish. To me, that was a blessing. The best rivals in the final. Proud South African supporter happy to be on the winning side. Great match. Pity of the red card thing.

Yeah. I disagree. We missed 3 drop goals and almost scored with Kolisi and Arendse down the right so I dont buy that the ABs would have won that 95 times out of 100. I feel for Sam Cane but as Eggchaser points out New Zealands disciplinary record was terrible before and during the world cup and they never dealt with it. It was a big issue for us during the Bakkies and Korne Krige days and we sorted it out. It makes a huge difference especially with how trigger happy refs are these days.

I am both an AB and a Springbok fan, so, for me, this was probably the dream final. I found myself cheering both teams at different stages during the game. I absolutely LOVED the Springbok defence, just as much as I enjoyed the AB’s working to string together attacks. All I can say is, PSdT is a legend for his play in the final. On one hand, I feel bad for the AB’s. The utter abject disappointment on their faces at the final whistle was hard to watch. On the other hand, the joy on the Springboks faces was so very uplifting. I am for one believe that Sam Cane deserved the red. I also feel Siya was very lucky not to get a red. Frizel was also very lucky not to get a red for taking out Bongi… at the end of the day. I do believe the Springboks deserved the win. I would LOVE to see another final between these two teams in the next RWC. And, again, I don’t care who wins. There is just no better spectacle in rugby, than to watch these two teams play each other.

Like Squidge Rugby said, all teams have been penalised for headshots since 2019 World Cup. The ABs were the most ill disciplined team at the 2023 WC. He should've known better. Great respect for the ABs. Great rivalry and its crazy how South Africans respect/like our greatest foes. @nandkuj Pretty sure ABs would have lost by more if it were 15 on 15 IMO. They were being dominated by the Boks when they were 15. At 14, they played with nothing to lose, chanced their arm and almost won. The Boks at the same time relaxed a bit too much. ABs mentally adjusted themselves and were probably angry at the decision, which ended up helping them more than hurting them, again IMO.

They complain about Aaron Smith's supposed try even though there was a clear knock on, and they love to play the what if game even though the Springboks also had opportunities to score a few tries...as for '95, they keep talking about "Suzie" and say the Springboks got lucky, but also conveniently forget that Ruben Kruger scored as the ref said he didn't see the grounding. The All Blacks definitely have a higher average/consistent level of play, and therefore has the better overall record, but the Springboks have a higher ceiling and win when the biggest of matches are played...let this great rivalry continue! 😉

The whole "heroic" 14 on 15 narrative is overblown. First, yes, you have to feel for Sam Cane, but it's his own fault. Absolutely HORRIBLE tackling technique. Now, South Africa had two yellows in that second half. I've replayed the game several times now. SA came out to start the second half dominant and almost scored two tries to put the game away. Credit the AB's for holding on, legendary stuff, really. However, all the second half pressure from the All Blacks came during the Kolisi Yellow card or just shortly after. The second try was a direct result of the first try being disallowed. These things don't happen in a vacuum, it's very likely that if the first try stood the second doesn't happen. I say this because after the ABs scored they had to kickoff and they never entered the South African 22 for the rest of the game, even during the Kolby Yellow. Conrad Smith said it best, South Africa were always in control of that game. It was a titanic battle between two teams with legends all over the pitch. It was a privilege to watch and produced a worthy winner.

My issue is that the New Zealand documentaries are all available on the free NZR app and some on KZread whilst Chasing the Sun 2019 only recently was made available to Rugbypass TV. The world is watching the NZ story and only us bloody DSTV subscribers get to watch the South African story. The quality of the CTS2 production is far superior to any of the NZ series and gives far better real insights into how an international rugby team operates. This is not an episode of Chicago PD were directors need to worry about paid viewership to keep shows on the air. Let the world see it.

Win or lose, if the game is at the top level on all three sides(team1, team2 and referees), WHAT A GAME! With top level, I mean, within the rules and regulations. Would you really be sad if "your team" lost, if the best game ever was played?

I have no respect for nz rugby. At times they can play rugby however a lot of their wins ( esp vs Boks) were referee assisted. The previous weekend I watched Wellington bt Chiefs after ref clearly being biased vs Chiefs, awarding undue penalty to Wellington (as they have done many many times vs Springboks). It seems to be their culture to use refs to give the impression they are better than anyone else. Their comolaints abt RWC23 is pureky cause they had no influence over the TMO and bunker. PS..80% of all red cards ever given to Boks were from a nz ref. World ref chairman in Mcaw's tme was a NZ. I respect their good style of play, not their winninh by cheating. PS again Frizel shod have gotten red for taking Bongi off

Do you think the All Blacks have control over the refs' decisions? Or are you suggesting that there is some collusion going on? Many teams have been on the wrong side of a ref's decision, not only the Springboks. However, you choose to cherry pick when the Boks were on the receiving end. Refs are fallible, and with the multitude of rules and their interpretation they are prone to failure. You don't have to respect the All Blacks (no one asked you anyway), but leave your conspiracy theories under your bed and try to advance rugby in general. After all when everything is said and done, its just a competitive game between 2 teams. Its not a life changing event (you might think so) or the end of the world. FYI - I'm not an All Black fan. My blood is as green as the grass on a rugby field. But, I admire and respect the All Blacks as competitors, not as an enemy. Do better, PLEASE!.

Some of the decisions by the AllBlacks around penalties had me scratching my head. Kicking for points when they should have gone for touch, kicking for touch when they should have gone for points. I didn't understand it during the game so its not a case if having 20/20 vision after the fact.

Hi there, ofcrse I respect the AB's it's just they're our ultimate-rivals tht's all but honestly disagree with U when U say they were unlucky not to Win the Final sure they played a Great -Game considering but we also had Siya & Kolbe sent-off in the 2nd-Half.... Also, cme-now to say tht Smith was unlucky to not hve been given the Try how so the ball was knocked-on before Aaron Smith scored the Try so U cnt award it it's just the rules + facts.... Even the 2nd-Try which was awarded shldn't really hve been awarded even if U Agree with Wayne Barnes + say tht the Ball wasn't forward from Mark Talea's hand (highly-questionable??) the pass from Jordie Barret was forward-to Talea I mean u can see the trajectory of the ball + where Talea is standing when receiving the pass.... So, basically feel AB's were very lucky to hve been awarded tht as a Try, anyhow!!!!

Frizell hit on key player, Bongi. Cane hit on key player, Kriel. Smith hit on key player, Kolbe. It was part of their strategy to combat the 7-1 split which they didn’t think they could beat. The Smith hit on Kolbe no one talks about. He chops the upper leg. You can actually hear it on the audio and that’s when Kolbe goes down. It’s a much smarter foul than the other two. Might be legal but the intent was there.

A RWC win is a win. But I've said this time and time again. The All Blacks were hands down the better team on the day, they came close to beating the Bok's with 14 on the field, while they neutralized the Nuke Squad (Which is a tactic that doesnt work by the way). The Springboks did what they always do, they slow the game down to a crawl and go into their shell. But what's amusing is that the SA supporters are the first to cry or moan when World Rugby changes laws and rules to speed up the game - as so many SA fans have been complaining about. The fact that they didn't score any points in the second half is testament to the point I'm making. If you want to argue the point, then please remember that the Springboks have won 3 of their world cups without scoring a try. 1995, 2007 and 2023. The 2007 RWC Final being labelled as the most boring final ever. The amount of calls that went against The All Blacks in that RWC final is higher and far more costly than the ones that went against South Africa. Yes South Africa won, and sincerely my congratulations on creating history for being 4 x RWC winners. But that doesn't mean they deserve it. That's just the hard facts. Come @ me SA fans.
