ALL-AMERICAN ROAD UTAH SCENIC BYWAY HWY 12 | BRYCE CANYON TO CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK | EP245

THE 31 DAY ADVENTURE CARAVANS GRAND CIRCLE WESTERN NATIONAL PARKS GUIDED RV TOUR of 9 National Parks, 4 National Monuments and dozens of attractions, events and activities was on our RV Travel Bucket List for years. At first, we thought we would book a personalized route ourselves, but to pack this much sightseeing into only 31 days would have been a daunting task, and required planning a year or more in advance!
Life always seemed to get in the way, and made PLANNING a trip like this seem impossible because of all the "timing" issues. We just couldn't commit to things that far in advance. We finally realized we would NEVER be able to pull off planning a long, 31 day complex trip like this unless we purchased a pre-arranged and engineered Adventure Caravans Professionally Guided RV Tour that had all the trip planning already done for us. This allowed us to book it on a lot less notice, and when the time finally felt "right". All we had to do was sign up & show up! Perfect!
Check out ALL (7) of our 31 day National Park Blitz adventure VIDEOS! This caravan made us travel in a style "outside" of our box. We loved the experience.

On January 22, 2021, the US District Court for the District of Columbia issued a decision in Price v. Barr determining the permit and fee requirements applying to commercial filming under 54 USC 100905, 43 CFR Part 5, and 36 CFR Part 5.5 are unconstitutional. In response to the decision, the National Park Service issued interim guidance on February 22, 2021, to manage filming activities. Under the interim guidance, filming activities may require a permit if they would impact park resources or the visitor experience. The National Park Service intends to update regulations addressing filming activities that are consistent with the outcome of Price v. Barr. Once effective, those regulations will replace and supersede the interim guidance.
“Low-impact filming" is defined as outdoor filming activities in areas open to the public, except areas managed as wilderness, involving five people or less and equipment that will be carried at all times, except for small tripods used to hold cameras. Those participating in low-impact filming activities do not need a permit and are not required to contact the park in advance.

Glad you enjoyed it Gary. We both know that if the motorhome was designed to go 65 up the 14% grades, there would be folks doing it! It's all about "what size engine is needed 99% of the time"...........MINUS 50 hp so the model above what your looking at can have more!!

Just found your channel ❤ We ended up on this same journey 3 years ago by accident, in the winter snow!!!!! traveling from capital reef to bryce. Didn't even know this scary part of the drive existed. Needless to see I was scared to death because I was driving our new 32 ft rv with toad behind. Had to take a nap by the time we got to bryce lol. to let me nerves settle lol. Now I got a few years drive time with the rv we are going back in January. Actually brings joyful tears to my eyes seeing it again. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to bring us along on your journey 😊

Very well stated, I fully agree. We just did scenic 12 and it brought back the wonderful memories. I hope everyone gets to view it. BUT…. you are right, very nerve racking for passenger and the driver. Cliffs straight down on either side in some places barely wide enough for vehicles to pass…

We watched this together and I appreciate all the "feelings" shared on this video. The drive itself looks gorgeous but harrowing. Those hairpin turns and narrow cliff roads are what get me every time. I hope my husband is like Mark andd I'm as brave as Sue when it's our turn to do this drive!

Thanks for watching guys. Just go slow and steady,.......and inform your Mark that he needs to talk and tell you what he is doing and report in what is happening. Knowing what I know now, I would not go on this road unless I had a diesel with a jake brake. This is the type of road that blows up engines if you aren't vigilant.

That so much Larry. The obvious thing to stop folks from RVing FT is health. But the second biggest for us may be money. I need a little cheer this week. (Actually I need a lot of cheer to keep this up.) I just had to have a new Oasis unit installed for $12,500, along with $6300 of misc. work for an eye-popping $18,800 total. I was NEVER going to publish another cost video because they are so time consuming. I feel I have to now. Our "repairs & maintenance" costs PER MONTH are at around $1000/month now! (And I view the Dutch Star as solid by comparison!)

And yes, the passenger can really freak out; but like Sue, my wife keep encouraging me and telling me how beautiful and steep the scenery was!

Feeling the push into the seatbelt going down hill due to the (2) Stage Jake Brake on the 8.9L Cummins was like having a pacifier in my mouth the entire time while on the road. I tip my hat to all the engine brake and gassers on this Highway. I personally would go a different route. One of the folks on our caravan blewup their Ford V10.

Our third year of owning a 38 foot old Dutch Star we went to some of the same places you went on this trip. We stayed at the same RV park in Torrey. After a few weeks of utah dirt and rocks our older German Shorthaired pointer was so happy to have that soft green grass to roll around on. When we left there we headed south I did not know we were to cross the hogsback. Driving stuff like that Is Spooky for me but my husband takes it well. In Sept 2003 I did the entire Utah 12 length north to south starting out from Hanksville Utah. We were on a motorcycle tour and that route was the best ride ever; and I've toured most of the USA on 2 wheels. I don't recall any guardrails on Rt 12 back then, which made it even more interesting and attention getting, especially hogback. We had dinner with a BLM regional manner after that ride and he told us that there are cars and trucks down in those valleys near hogback and they have been there for decades. They don't even try to get them out when they go over the edge. Glad we had that conversation after the ride. Rt 12 isn't for the faint of heart. (but was good practice for the roads in the Alps that I got to drive a few years back. My wife actually became ill while climbing and decending those road in a smaller car, the size of a Kia Soul). Utah 12 is on the list for another visit in 2023, but I think I'll leave the Toyhauler RV in the park and take either the Ram truck or the CanAm 3 wheeler. Great video. it brought back superb memories.

Wow, what a great drive. We did that about 4 years ago and just beautiful. Up on the ridge we were behind a rancher driving his cattle to a new place to graze. We got to see the ranchers work the cattle with the dogs and it was amazing it was about a 30 minute delay. But it was ok. That is what we love about being retired. As many years as I've driven heavy rigs, there are places that truly make you wonder if, you can do it, or afterwards, what was I thinking moments. Thank you for taking Lois & I along on the journey. Not sure if I want to film it, but we want to see it for ourselves, just as you did. Thank you Sue & Mark for all the time you spent putting this together. Hope to see you on the road; Lois & Tex, ScottishxPride, Tx.

Mark, thank you so much for so gracefully addressing passenger anxiety. ❤️ It’s a real thing! We have a BMW Z roadster and belong to both our local Z car club here in Arizona as well as the national club. Drives are planned monthly. Husband loves it…I tolerate it. My motto is , “You drive…I’ll look….maybe.” Like Sue, I try to be the best co-pilot & navigator, but it’s hard when you feel like you are about to go careening over the edge of a mountain road at 75 mph. I’m already dreading a group drive up Mt. Lemmon near Tucson, AZ on 12/3. It’s about 9500 feet summit with no guardrail and often has hikers and cyclists alongside. Oh…did I mention we do these drives with our convertible tops DOWN!

Wow! Don't want to get in the middle of this one. But my motto remains the same,......"Happy wife, happy life." I doubt I will ever get Sue to intentionally drive this type of road again on purpose. I got that message loud and clear from her,.......... She sacrifices not seeing her grandson as much as she would like to be with me out RVing. Driving like a milk toast for her on these roads is the least I can do.

We don't have a Class A , we are now towing a 35' Fifth wheel with a RAM Cummins Diesel, I didn't mind the steep descents when they are protected on at least one side from cross winds, it's when your on top of the world with steep drops on both sides and no hills or rocks to block the winds. Our trip from Sturgis to Quartzite this fall was a real white knuckle experience in places , I don't remember what road we were on it was either southern Wyoming or Northern Utah on a US Hwy (we try to avoid interstates for the forgotten town experience ) it was a 11-12% down hill road into a small town lots of hairpin turns and being caught between 2 over sized loads. Our Exhaust brake really got a workout that day.

As a soon to be retired couple that are just getting ready to take a plunge into the deep end with a first rig in the 40' range, I found this video to be quite inspirational! I'll admit that winding roads with steep drop offs like that are one of the things that have me a little intimidated from the outside looking in, but it was great to experience it virtually through this video. Thanks for sharing! I'm trying to find a way to get some guided experience driving here (in the northeast) before we buy, but it seems to be a catch 22 - most of the RV driving schools require you to have your own coach. I may have to rent something and arrange a day or two of lessons. I'm curious as to how you got started? Thanks again!

We have never driven in the north east, but hope to someday. We will be NERVOUS because of the narrow, low bridge roads. We will only stay on major roads with the rig. I learned to drive trucks and tow vehicles in my high school "gas station attendant" days, and that was it for training. Slow and steady is the name of the game, and have a travel partner with a walkie talkie outside guiding you. And always take all the room you are given for a turn. We would never have known about this route if it wasn't for the Adventure Caravan's Tour. We agree with that assessment,.....it is one we will never forget.

Love seeing the scenic view! From Sue and your friend behind you it’s all very nice. It’s nice the the caravans all stop for you if you pull over fir anything. How was the caravaning? It looked like fun.

Great job Mark has an over the road truck driver you did very well just gotta remember going up those great inclines and get into that elevation part of the problem is the air is so thin your motor doesn’t run properly I drive a 2011 F250 gas and pull a 27 foot fifth wheel it made it through to Yellowstone going up at 10% grade from Buffalo to Cody WyomingThanks from Wisconsin
