    I have more than 10 years using wacom tablets, try using the more resistance nibs if u want cleaner lines. Try it for yourself. The regular nibs are good for coloring or 3D or just simply navigating thru the web or things like that that don't require sensitivity too much. That is my humble opinion. For detailed illustrations I prefer the paper ones or even the black with white tip ones.

    There's a trick I discovered that will save your nibs indefinitely. The first day I used my Wacom tablet, I was playing with it for about two or three hours. Using a magnifying glass, I noticed a significant amount a wear to the nib already. At the end of that evening, I put the tablet back into the plastic dust cover that came with it. The next day, I decided to experiment with that dust cover, leaving it on and taping it securely to the tablet so it doesn't move or wrinkle, and found the pen and tablet still function properly. I've been using the same nib now for weeks without any noticeable wear. So then, save the dust cover, or get some form of plastic equivalent to it, Stretch and tape it to your Wacom surface, and enjoy hours of use without ever thinking about nib wear. Household cling wrap may be too thin, but worth trying. Eventually the dust cover will wear out, but it has not torn yet. I think it's cheaper to replace a plastic cover every few months rather than a nib every week, depending on how often you use it.

    I have brand new Wacom intuos. After using the pen for less than 10 hours, it has already developed a sharp edge. I was not even pressing hard. I was worried that my tablet surface will be ruined and was about to stop using it until I buy a cover off AliExpress. After reading your comment, I tried wrapping the tablet in the form-fitting plastic bag it came in. It worked! It's even easier to use it now and the pen moves smoothly on the surface. I can't thank you enough for the tip!

    I am SO GLAD that this video exists and that you went into detail about what which is and what difference they make, cuz I got this wacom intuos pro second hand from one of my best friends, and I had no clue which nib was which, only that _this one_ felt better than _that one_ and especially now that I have this new wacom to replace that second hand that- eventually crapped out, I know now which nibs I wanna get more of for when I eventually wear this current one down, that I'm carrying over FROM the second hand's stylus holder

  • @inconspicuous-nobody

    @inconspicuous-nobody

    4 жыл бұрын

    Late reply but... The nib is a piece of plastic, or hardened felt, or toothpick or whatever else your weapon of choice might be. No electronics in the nib itself. All it does is push something inside the pen (magnet, coil ==> electrical magic happens) and the amount that thing is pushed is registered in the tablet surface, and that bit then tells your computer where you are on the tablet and how much pressure you're applying (+tilt, keystrokes etc). To rephrase that: the tip is just a device to poke at the pen's internals with, which in turn "disturbs" what the pen does to the field around the tablet surface, which is processed by the thing and translated to all that functionality. So the tip's contact surface has the functionality of any piece of pokey plastic you drag along a surface. Feel only. What matters for line width etc. is what force is transmitted to that springy coil. Some tips can adjust this: a spring will take up some of the strength you're pushing with, so the coil effectively gets less pressure and so moves less - thinner line widths with the same settings otherwise. A rubber tip (the one with the white dot on the end) does the same to a much lesser degree (because the tiny amount of rubber won't take up a lot of that force) and mostly influences feel instead. Tl;Dr: Feel only unless you have something "springy" as a tip.

    I can wipe out a pencil in 3 sittings, chalk and pastels don't stand a chance around my heavy hand... I have been using the same original stylus nib since November 2007 on a Intuos 3 almost every day... I still have all the original replacement nibs in their original case unopened. I use for photoshop, illustrator and general PC use. I regularly check if it's worn down - seems as perfect as the day I purchased it, and the tablet is still perfectly new and unscratched or not in the slightest "worn down" or "shiny"... I'm genuinely confused. What am I doing wrong (or right)?

    so you saying that if for example i make some home made nibs at the same size of the original nibs or(add something smooth on the end of the nib which i touch the tablet) it can save me from wasting money on nibs ( well i do not draw that much, i dnt even have a tablet yet but ill buy one soon) but yeah,at first i was like" oh i see so the pen is 100% electronic with a smooth nib-like thing but seems like isnt that simple :3 , well they could make a rubber kind of surface and the pen's nib something like a very soft tip and all nibs to have that pressure option to them, , so yeah but again i want to buy something not too expensive but good too and im stuggling betwen Wacom One Small and medium , i dnt know the difference.,, is the size? or gives more options?like i see your tablet is very different to what i want to buy ,i just hope the surface of drawing is as big on wacom one small/medium like yours, i really dnt need a lot of options because im not a pro-artist, just looking for something big enough to fit my hand and have reasonable space to draw because drawing on photoshop or any other programs with a mouse its so annoying, pls someone reply when u can :3 and ty

    I'm old enough to remember Wacom tablets before they started using the harder, slicker surfaces. They were better IMO. When they stopped selling replacement surfaces I used spray fixative for a while, which worked fairly well. I've never been happy with my now ancient Wacom 3 Pro. The felt tip feels weird - it mimics the feel of a heavy marker more than a pencil, and the others are far too fast. I like the feel of the Apple pencil, and the Surface Pen 4, with their rubber tips, so I'm about to try a Surface screen protector as a last attempt at getting something enjoyable on my Wacom 3.

  • @inconspicuous-nobody

    @inconspicuous-nobody

    4 жыл бұрын

    I'm probably too late with this reply, but here goes. You can buy a4/a3 sized plastic screen protectors that are easy to cut to size. It helps a lot with the feel. Couple that with the rubber nib (the white dot on end) and you're as close to pencil feel as you'll be getting on a Wacom. You can also do a horrible thing and superglue a "donor" rubber tip on the end of the regular plastic nib, even something like an apple pencil replacement tip... You can replace the screen protector every few months after they wear out but the texture lasts a reasonable time for how much they cost (packs of 10 etc. from AliExpress or eBay) I am never relinquishing my intuos3-s!

    The pad gets slick over time. I have an old intuos 4 small and it supr slick. I used to stick paper sheets on it every other couple weeks or so to keep it rough. The surfaces gets shiny quite fast i think. I now got a smal intuos 5 pro and its already starting after just couple of months, this one also shows quite some scratches some due to the nibs?! My old intuos 4 has after all these less scratches than this new one after just 3-4 months

    I recommend mat screen protectors if you want the ""paper"" texture back. You can either hunt for a glass one that's about the size of your active area: something made for a similar or slightly larger size tablet (the android or windows computer variety of tablet) tends to be easy to score. Personally I went the hard plastic route, they will need replacement a tiny bit more often but are also cheaper and you can cut them to size. AliExpress has them in packs of A4 size, you can even buy packs of 20 etc. for super cheap. This was what old tablets did as well basically... They had a plastic flap you could place paper to trace under. The flap was sort of removable. White rubber tip + mat screen protector is the closest combo to paper I have found. Everything else is just lacking control (yeah it's fast but it's too fast for anything small). On an L size tablet I might reconsider but nothing below that. Keep in mind you only drag the tip when you're drawing a line... This doesn't influence how fast you can click stuff. Cheers

    Why can't you replace it? If you have trouble grabbing it due to the wear, you can remove the top cover of the pen. It's always removable, at worst it takes 15 more seconds of disassembly/twisting and pulling it off. Look up a video or something of the sort on how it comes apart. You can replace it with a toothpick or any piece of plastic that you can sand to a shape that fits.
