@etstiffler there's actually two little hotels in my town that are pretty cheap. Most things in town will be shut down for the eclipse so there will be plenty of space to watch the eclipse!

Excellent advice! I’ve seen two total eclipses. During the first one I drove about 40 miles to get into the totality. When I got back to where it had been 90%, people told me they barely noticed it. There’s a video on my channel about the Aug 2017 eclipse as seen from Wyoming. I highly recommend you do as he said: put the camera away and experience it. That was my plan for the first one, and that’s the plan for my third this coming April.

We drive 300 miles to see the last one and I can say that YOU MUST BE WITHIN THE PATH OF TOTALITY to truly appreciate this!!!! Being in the 70 or 80% line doesn't cut it. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen/felt. I've traveled the world, worked on 40 foot sees in the Bering Sea but this was the best. I can't recommend being within the path of totality. Can't wait for April.

Let me encourage you to see this eclipse. I didn't know what to what to expect in 2017 but it was truly fantastic. I could still see but it gets pretty dark, temp drops, and the bugs start . It was on the internet so I could track it before it arrived. I wasn't able to find a welding lens strong enough to look directly at the sun so I used two #9 lenses if memory serves me. I would definitely recommend that. Most welding stores would let ya try out lenses in the parking lot.

I've been waiting for this since it was predicted in 2017, even before the Great American eclipse. Because I live in Mexico, I wasn't able to see even a quarter of the 2017 eclipse, I saw a tiny bit of the sun getting covered where I live. But this time I plan to go to one of the places within the path of totality. The eclipse is approaching!

I would recommend using a lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of around 600mm. Auto bracketing the exposures and remotely controlling or using an intervalometer to control the camera are recommended. You will be surprised with how fast the Sun will move across the field of view, so keep an eye on the screen and be prepared to regularly adjust the camera direction. Using a tracking mount would reduce the need to adjust the camera direction. Look up the expected camera exposure settings before going to the eclipse site.

There is a trick I know about because I am 66 years old . But if you can find a cardboard box about the size of you head . Not corrugated ! The cardboard should be about the thickness of a shoe box . Poke a hold in it at about the height of your eyes , face away from the sun and face the side of the box with the hole in it tward the sun , you will see an image of the sun in front of your face . And you can see everything projected . To get a clean picture , glue a piece of fine paper to the inside of the box opposite the hole you poked in the box side . Enjoy ! 😉

This takes me back. 2017 I drove to Madras, Oregon, and got to see totality for the greatest duration. What was really spectacular was the sun was directly east of us in the sky, however Mount Jefferson was directly to the west of us there and it was in those moments of great anticipation that everybody just kept their eye on the mountain behind us and just a few moments before we were plunged into darkness at 10:14 am the mountain went dark behind us and we got to watch the shadow race across the landscape and envelope us. It was the most cerebral experience of my entire life. I can remember tears on my face from the astonishment I felt. There isn’t much bigger that we can witness as far as scale goes. Maybe the supernova of Betelgeuse will surpass it, but these events are the most amazing thing humans can witness. I can’t think of much bigger. Perhaps when the comet slammed into Jupiter and left those marks on the surface that were bigger than the Earth. I believe it was Comet Shoemaker-Levy.

I watched the strikes on Jupiter, and that was truly spectacular. Even a replay of it, after all these years, still effects me. I'm ten miles from the center line of totality, with a National Forest where I know of many small clearings with an acre or three lake in it. And we're retired, so I can take as long of a weekend as I want. And our 40th anniversary will be only a month later. This will be an early present for us; alone camped at a Forest beside a lake, with an eclipse to make it all perfect. It will be about our last big celestial event, at our age, and we're so looking forward to it.❤

If you want to take photos, assuming you have a DSLR and telephoto lens, you can tape eclipse glasses over the lens hood’s front and center area and obscuring the rest so no light leaks in. Use a tripod! Practice for several days with test shots since it’s not easy to find the sun in the viewfinder.

Binocular users - You can actually buy sheets of the same filter material used in eclipse glasses pretty cheap and use to make a filter box that fits over your binoculars. I did that for the 2017 event and actually reused the box and foam packing my 20X Celestron astronomy binoculars came in to do it. At 20X you can clearly make out sunspots with the filter on and during the eclipse could clearly see the fiery pink solar flares.

In 2017 I lived in Charlotte when the 2017 Solar eclipse happened. I've never seen one because I worked the night 12 hour shift that day and was working the night shift again. My luck didn't align like the sun and the moon, and fell asleep. it was gonna be a partial eclipse but pretty close. Now, I'm living in Zapopan Jalisco Mexico, close to nayarit where the totality will happen. Won't be as good as in Charlotte, close to SC, but still a solid 91% of the sun will be covered. I've seen total lunar eclipses about 3 times. They're way more common apparently. I'm incredibly exited!

A Harbinger for us! . A warning from God on April 8th, the eclipse crossing America from Mazatlán to Maine. The "Sign of Jonah." ,,,no sign shall be given but the Sign of Jonah. An eclipse occurred while Jonah traversed Nineveh calling for repentance. Nineveh got forty days to repent, they did and were spared destruction, will America repent before the forty days are up? The eclipse crosses 6 cities named Nineveh and two named Jonah! Could it be any clearer? It occurs on the Biblical first day of the year, Nisan 1. A warning for our time! Forty days later is Israel's birthday, May 18th. Pentecost. And the best part,, before judgment, is Nisan 10, the day Jesus first appeared as the Messiah, and the day the Israelites crossed into the Promised Land after forty years. A foreshadow of the Church going home to Heaven. A heavenly sign, a warning, a harbinger from God. Could Nisan 10 be the day we go home before destruction comes or will it be Pentecost? We'll soon see. God Bless you. Look up,, and pray always,, Luke 21:36.

@@j.777hemi2 The sign of Jonah was his resurrection from the belly of the great fish. This is the analogy Jesus used for His own resurrection (Mt. 12:39-40). When Jesus appears on the mount of Olives on the day of the Lord, Israel will see the resurrected Jesus, and will believe in the cross (Zech. 12:8-13:1). The Jews were lied to by their leaders, and told that Jesus' body was stolen by His disciples (Mt. 28:12-15). Eclipses, planetary alignments and meteor showers are not signs of impending doom from God. Also, there is no biblical evidence that an eclipse occurred during Jonah's travels to or through Nineveh, OR during the crucifixion of Christ. These are both social media urban legends (fairy tales).

....and it's said that it will be here and at it's perihelion right in the middle of this eclipse! And more: Apparently SEVEN planets in our Solar System (including our Earth) will also all be aligning in a straight line at the time of this elclipse! But wait, there's even more: SEVEN years earlier, in the 2017 eclipse, the line of totality (that cut across the USA from North West to South East) passed directly through SEVEN locations in the US [there are 36 in total] that have the name Salem (which has also been known as another name for Jerusalem). Now, SEVEN years later, in this eclipse, and whose path of totality will run this time from South West to North East across the US (and effectively drawing a big 'X' over the US on top of the 2017 path), the line of totality will pass through SEVEN places named NINEVEH! Bur, unlike the Salems, there are ONLY SEVEN places in the US named NINEVEH, and the path of totality goes right through ALL SEVEN of them! SEVEN out of SEVEN, ...not bad! But, if you want to extend things a bit, there is only ONE place called NINEVEH in all of Canada, ...and it is in Nova Scotia, ....and yep, the path of the eclipse also passes right through that Canadian NINEVEH as well! EIGHT out Eight, all up, for US and Canada! Not bad eh? For those who read the Bible, and are familiar with the Biblical account of Jonah (and the Whale), the reluctant prophet who was asked by God to go and prophecy to Nineveh, this might raise eyebrows a bit more with them. To be very concise. Jonah was sent to the Assyrian Capital of Nineveh (at that time a very, wealthy, powerful, affluent, and self-satisfied type of place, but also wicked and idolatrous) to prophecy and warn Nineveh that, basically, you have got 40 days to repent, or you are toast! Well, as the Bible records, Nineveh DID repent, en masse, and was saved - I think it is actually the most successful mass repentance event recorded in the Bible. (But obviously Pharaoh's Egypt, and Sodom and Gomorrah were not that big on repentance). At this point do you think it is quite safe, mature, reasonable, and rational, for me to ask the question, is there perhaps something just a little bit more than coincidence and mere random happenstance going on here with all this? "Coincidence Is NOT A Kosher word" A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, therefore none shall be given to it, except the sign of the prophet, Jonah".

Does it ever rain during eclipse? I noticed the skies were super clear no clouds at all. What if it snows? Often DFW gets Winter in Feb. or March but April should be good. Will we still be able to see it if weather is bad? Just curious.... AWESOME video. Thank you for your GREAT examples etc. OH you went to Curacao? Was that fun? Curacao is on my list of Go' to's in the next years.

I would recommend going to Mexico because the probability of seeing it is higher. To save yourself the trouble of booking accommodation and getting to the eclipse sites, you may find it better going on an organised tour. I live in the UK are there are quite a few British companies organising tours and it is quite easy to get to London for the flights. Companies include "Astro Trails", "Omega Breaks" and Naturetrek.

2:00-- what is the explanation for that difference in time? And, also, wouldn't an ellipse cause the moon to accelerate?

  • @InsertHandleHere968

    @InsertHandleHere968

    6 ай бұрын

How big of a shadow the moon casts. The moons orbit is not a perfect circle so when it’s closer the shadow is bigger and therefore totality lasts longer. The earth’s orbit around the sun also brings us sometimes closer and sometimes farther from the sun. This also has an effect. As does geography and spin of the earth

The lunar eclipse is the one they can't explain. The earth's shadow across the face of the moon is clearly curved. A solar eclipse could still occur on a flat earth because it is the moon that blocks the sunlight.
