My engagement ring is moissanite and it’s honestly better than a diamond! It’s more ethical for everyone involved. Mining is terrible for the earth as well the people that mine them. I get compliments on my ring daily and when I tell people that it’s moissanite and how much we saved everyone thinks its a smarter alternative. I’m so glad you made this video because the shame around not having a diamond is deep and educating people on other options is so important!!

I also have a moisannite, and I also felt a lot of anxiety about people reacting to it. But now I don't care anymore because I love it. Because moissanite is so firey a lot of people around me know my fiance can't spend a lot of money on a ring, they assumed he went into debt to get it. But he didn't! Because it was moisannite it was paid off! 😊

It sucks that you felt so much pressure/stress about this - Your ring is beautiful! Moissanite isn’t a “fake diamond” but it’s a beautiful stone in itself like a sapphire or emerald. Diamonds are a major scam, their value is inflated because of De Beers controlling the supply, they are actually in abundance and the entire concept of a diamond ring bought with 3 months salary is all marketing. People wore gemstones or non diamond prior to De Beers massive marketing campaign. Good for you for being sensible and not going into debt for a piece of jewelry!

Yes!! Moissanite in itself is such a rare gem and people down play it by saying it’s a diamond imitation like swarvoski or cubic zirconia. Moissanite gems are worth more than people realize!

It's a real moissanite, and it is gorgeous and reasonably priced, especially for young couples who are deliriously in love but don't have a ton of dispensable income. @@byCHLOEWEN Also keep in mind they were discovered in a meteorite originally! They just discovered how to recreate them in a lab. Plus the refractive index of a Moissanite is much higher than a diamond, and is a close Second on the mohs scale of hardness at a 9.25 while diamonds are a 10. A Moissanite has a rainbow reflecting light while diamonds have a white sparkle. Also they are flawless and a diamond will unfortunately have imperfections becuase it is mined. I suggest Charles and Calvard btw they have a patented method on making the most brilliant Moissanites! They are lovingly created and not massed produced

The whole, “I’ve been married for two years and the ring no longer matters” is so true! I wear my gold band all the time now. Prefer it over my diamond ring most of the time. For whatever reason, the gold band makes me feel more true to our relationship by not depending on the materialistic side of it... if that makes any sense. Lol

I love my moissanite wedding ring set. Diamonds are a rip off, and it’s annoying women feel pressured to have one. I wear my ring proudly, and had a few people later get moissanite for their own wedding rings after they saw mine.

Love! I have an emerald cut moissanite engagement ring and love embracing it. I don't consider it t a "fake diamond", but rather a beautiful gemstone that happens to look very similar to a diamond.

Lab grown diamond are diamond, they have the same genetics, one is mined from earth the other is man made. It is like natural birth or in vitro baby :)

I’m currently wearing my mother-in-law’s engagement ring that passed away in January. It’s about a 3 carat. My father-in-law bought the stone which is a white sapphire and my birthstone while he was stationed in the Air Force in Thailand I believe. He had the ring designed for her. My former stone in my engagement ring was a blue sapphire. Your ring is beautiful and I totally agree with you. It doesn’t matter if the stone is real or not as long as you love it.

My mother got engaged a few weeks back. She kept bragging about how expensive her engagement ring was and how big it was. Her fiance spent almost 5k on her engagement ring and wedding ring!!! My husband spent literally less than $600 on both my engagement ring and wedding ring. Lol my mom has always been the material type though. I don't see anything wrong with getting a more affordable ring. As long as they are good quality and will stand the test of time. I'm perfectly happy with mine and I wouldn't ask for anything different. Although, it's not necessarily the cheapest, it's also not outrageously expensive. :) glad you talked about this!

I really don't want a diamond ring, and especially no big one. Yes, I really like to marry my boyfriend because I really love him, but I don't want him to spend a rediculus amount of money on a ring. I would be totally afraid to wair it. I like a nice ring but I would be very happy with anything he could afford.

I sell jewelry especially engagement rings (I have a diamond grading license from GIA in New York) and I truly think that moissonnite is a fantastic choice for an engagement ring. Good for you! You have brains and the correct perspective on life and love. My husband and I put money down on a house and I have moissanite, so yeah it is all about priorities. Keep up the good, and at the end of the day, it just doesn’t matter.

I have never given a second thought to the fact that my engagement ring is lab created 🤷 my husband was in college and working as a barista when he bought it and it is exactly what I wanted. 10 years later (And kids and a house and several moves and a million life things) I am still happily wearing it ☺️

My favorite stone is moissanite too and it actually coincides with my husband's birthday. Where a diamond is made from carbon (#6 on the periodic table of elements,) a moissanite is carbon and silicon together. Silicon is assigned the #14 on the periodic table. My husband's birthday is 6/14 so it was a very nice surprise to find that info out. I have 3 moissanite rings and 3 bands (1 diamond, 1 moissanite, and 1 CZ.) I mix and match them in all different ways bc I change my mind so often.

So glad I found this video. I was telling my partner I’ve been toying with the idea of a moissanite ring so I could get what I wanted size wise. We can afford a 8-10k on a ring, but I just feel guilty asking him to spend that much money. I would rather put that into furnishing our new home. This video really made my final decision on the moissanite!!

chelsea corona Yupp.. just because you can afford it doesn’t mean it’s a wise decision.. I just can’t fathom spending 8k-10k on a ring when I can get one just as nice for 1-2k. I think home, wedding, car means more to me.

Diamonds are as beautiful as any other stone out there. I am very proud of both of you, for not giving in and buying something you guys were not able to buy or go into debt for it. Such a smart move! A ring is a token of your love. So your ring is real and gorgeous! You have nothing to hide! What an amazing option and sorry you had to go through those insecurities but glad you were able to work through them. Anyone who would judge a ring needs to look inward.

My husband and I chose an estate ring from eBay. It is a 0.3 carat diamond in white gold for $300. The same size diamond ring was going to cost us $1000 at the jewelry store. It’s dainty, and I love it. We used to savings to get married in Hawaii.

My partner and I just got engaged and I picked out my own ring. There was no proposal (we are more talk it out and agree kind of people) and my partner knows that I'm way too picky with jewelry to not have a say in the process. I went with a silver band with an uncut black diamond, because I'm not much for traditional rings. It hasn't come yet (also from etsy), but it is 100% my style and cost less than $400.

My ring is also moissanite and I remember feeling so ashamed of it and feeling like I had to defend why I chose this type of ring. It looks beautiful but I am always so nervous that people are thinking it’s fake. But I’ve started realizing that other people really don’t care and if they do it doesn’t matter. At the end of the day, I’m married to the love of my life and that’s what matters. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️

Recently I’ve been feeling really self conscious about my engagement ring and I don’t know why. I have a vintage .5 carat diamond ring and I’ve been constantly comparing the small size of my ring to others. I totally related to this video (as far as hiding your ring from others or avoiding talking about it). I wish I had considered this option when we were looking. At the end of the day, the ring doesn’t really matter. We’ve saved up. We bought a house. We didn’t go into debt for our wedding. And we’re happy. That’s what matters. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for this video! I've had these same feelings about my moissanite ring, the same kind of "shame", for lack of better words, but never could really say it. We also felt it was the more ethical choice + financially smart way to go into marriage. As frustrating as it was to have people question our finances or subtley shame me for not having a "real diamond ring", I'm kind of proud of my choice now that I'm older!

Congrats! I also got a moisannite engagement ring and I got lots of compliments. Only one person who wasn't a jeweler asked what stone I had. Most people just see a beautiful ring, they don't care if it is or isn't a natural mined diamond. The setting has lab created diamonds and it was all under $3500. And we just didn't feel like spending a ton of money on just an engagement ring.

I honestly think it’s no one’s business about your engagement ring. That’s between you and your spouse. People are so nosey....

Your ring is beautiful! I think whatever works best for the couple and makes you guys happy is all that matters. I wanted diamond earrings for my upcoming two year anniversary and ended up going with a lab grown diamond for the price and larger size. They are just as sparkly as my real diamond ring and are more ethical and environmentally friendly. 🙂

I fully understand your hesitation to 'come clean' about your ring. I too had a 1.5 lab created diamond. And I lied through my teeth regarding the real, or unreal of it. Nobody's business! It always amazed me at the nerve of anyone asking if it was real or not. Personally, I would NEVER do that. It's very rude. If people ask, it is because they just want to pull you down or are envious. You should be proud of yourself and your husband for the decision you made.

Gorgeous ring.! I got engaged super young too. So my first engagement ring was a white sapphire. Everyone thought it was a real diamond, until id tell them. But he upgraded it to my choice of ~ a tanzanite & diamond ring. I love tanzanite since its more rare then diamonds..🥰

When my now husband and I started talking about engagement rings, we decided to visit some small local jewelry stores. Since my favorite color is blue, it was not a surprise that I fell in love with a blue sapphire ring. My ring was very affordable and till today I get so many compliments on my unique vintage style blue sapphire engagement ring. ❤️

I bought a beautiful ring at a department store. It’s a blush color. I thought how much I wished this was my wedding ring. I have a traditional ring. I think we should all choose whatever type of stone that makes us happy and not worry about the status of having a real diamond.

I have a moissanite wedding band, and I do not regret it a bit. I just love how much it sparkles. Diamonds cannot compete!

I felt sick to my stomach looking at diamond prices. It really weighed on me while my other half and I talked about engagement rings. I didn't want to spend so much money. I had my heart set on a Tiffany type setting too. I didn't end up with that and have a placeholder. We decided to upgrade me at our 10 year anniversary. I have my heart set on a rose gold and morganite ring now, maybe with a diamond wrap set in rose gold or maybe white gold or platinum for a different look. My current ring is 1.5 ctw.. and I do like it but I don't love it. I picked it out myself. Whoops.

I have a rose gold/morganite set! I love it so much! The stone is a softer stone, and I've already scratched mine. But no one can see it unless you know where to look. :) I'm also pretty hard on my hands.

My friend actually had her diamond switched out for a moissanite. She found her diamond was not of the best quality because to get the size she wanted the stone needed to be less than perfect. We have to remember diamonds became popular for an engagement ring because of clever advertising and marketing. I have an 1.5 carat oval morganite with diamond halo and always get compliments on it. :). Your ring is stunning.

I love my moissanite ring, and I think yours is beautiful! I agree with everyone else saying you shouldn't think of it as a fake diamond - it is a stunning and strong gemstone in its own special category. My now husband and I wanted to save for travel and experiences (and paying off student loans) instead of jewelry! The ethical benefits were a plus as well.

Good for you. It does not matter what others think. I have been married for almost thirty years. Ask me where my expensive engagement ring is now - in the back of a drawer. It just does not matter. Besides is there such a thing as an ethically mined diamond?

First of all.....if it means something to you that’s all that matters. Diamonds are over rated and only wanted and pricey because of the advertising the jewelry stores do. Love this. More influencers should talk about this. The point is you and your partner's commitment to take care of each other. If you like it and find it beautiful, then it's great. Especially as mined diamonds have so many ugly moral issues tied to them.

I have a sapphire ring and I love it. I get compliments all the time. It was so much cheaper than a diamond and very special and unique. It's also my husband's birthstone, so it makes it even more special.

I would love to have seen it close up. Very hard to catch a glimpse because you move your hands around a lot, but it does look beautiful from what I can see. Such a great message that I wish everyone could hear! I want to add one thing: Charles Winston always reminds people that moissanite is not a diamond simulant. Moissanite is a diamond alternative! I own a 4.20 carat Moissanite Fire engaged ring from him. I also own lots of his other pieces. They are wonderful. I prefer moissanite for everyday wear.

My bf which is my fiancé now just proposed to me on Christmas! It was so sweet and simple. I have been divorced before and got a diamond ring and it was disappointing because it was so expensive and didnt even sparkle like how i wanted it to be. But this time around, i chose to have a moissanite and told my fiancé about it. He also did his research and got me the ring that i really wanted.
