All About My Clear Credential Program 🎓

A day in the life of a teacher.
I am currently working on clearing my teaching credential and I enrolled in a clear credential program during my second year as a teacher. Although I already got my master's degree, the state of California requires (and perhaps other states too) require teaching credentials to be cleared within 5 years.
Although I am juggling my life as a teacher, I spend a couple hours each week doing some coursework for my clear credential program. I didn't do it during my first year of teaching because I wanted to focus on my life as a teacher, but now I have a better idea of how to be a 5th grade teacher. If you're wondering how to become a teacher, this is one of the last steps you'll need to do!

    I know that you are going to be so relieved when you clear your credential. Continue to hang in there with all of the work that you have to do. I wonder if the folks at the Teacher Commission know how much work is involved with such an arduous process.

    Hello Maya, do you have a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? The Son of God. Do you ask the Lord Jesus to bless you with wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and discernment? Do you ask the Lord Jesus to strengthen you to overcome all of your trials and tribulations? And do you the Lord Jesus to forgive you for all of your sins and transgressions?

    This is really wonderful : O) I asked people in my credential program (my supervisor, professors, administrators, etc) over and over to tell me how clearing a credential works, and no one would tell me! They'd all say, "Ask about it when you get hired," which is not terribly helpful for planning in advance. You told me, in just under seven minutes, pretty much exactly what I wanted to know, and it's so great. Thank you!! And good luck with your own career and students

During these 5 years I have a certain number of pd I have to show doing to prove that I’m keeping relevant in the changes in education. I can’t imagine going through what your talking about. I did have to do 1 full semester of student teaching and almost 200 hours of observation before hand with teaching a total of 7 observed lesson by graduation.

    I was really curious about this! I’ve been talking to teachers at our school and found out about the induction program (and as you stated, many of them doing it 2 years instead of 1) and realize many teachers are still in that process too, while it seems like they have been teaching all their lives! Thank you for sharing this! I definitely feel more knowledgeable about this now. I was just about to ask about how you do differentiation and modifications for IEP and EL students, but you mentioned it as I was typing it! :) So crossing fingers to hear what you would say about that, maybe in a future video, if you feel that you have a lot to share. I also was wondering if you had something in your credential that was embedded to teach ELD or become an ELD teacher if you ever wanted to switch things up in the future? Or if you had any knowledge or info about that. But no worries if you don’t, I am just trying to hear from other sources on top of reading sources online. Cheers! And happy Lunar New Year! :) Hope camping went well with your little ones!

    Hi Melissa! Hope you had a very happy Lunar New Year! While getting my credentials I always had to keep in mind what I would do if I had ELL students. Most programs train you to work at a public school. Since I'm at a private school, I don't really encounter students who are ELL, but I do have students with IEPs. :)

    I’m currently getting my Master’s with my credential, and I know that it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ll get more money with it at a public school, but I didn’t know about private schools... Do you find that you and your private school colleagues get paid more on average for having your Master’s than teachers without it? Do you notice that certain types of private schools tend to pay people with Master’s degrees over other types? (For example, parochial vs charter schools)

  • @mayaleex3

    @mayaleex3

    Hi! Yes my colleagues and I have discussed and have been told that we do not get paid more for having our Master's -- what really matters is your years of teaching experience. I think charter schools would....but I am not 100% sure on that part! For sure public schools have a salary schedule though based on your education/experience :)
