All About Crimp Beads And How To Use Them

Hi there. In today's video, I'm going to tell you all about crimps, those tiny little bits of metal that hold your jewelry together.
So these are crimps. These are little tiny tubes of metal that hold much of our jewelry together. They come in two different forms. Right here you see them in a bead form. It's just a little bit more rounded on the edges. And also crimp tubes which are a little bit longer. It can be even longer still. And these really do hold our pieces of strong jewelry together. And they're quite simple to use, but it's important that you use them right, so that your jewelry holds together securely.
As you can see here, crimps come in any finish you like. Gold, gold-plated. You can find them in sterling silver. Those are nice quality. These are antique gold-colored, silver, whatever you need to match your project. If you're not sure what size crimp to use with your bead stringing wire, you can always just take a look at the packaging, and usually it tells you a number one crimp and a number two crimp tube. Same on this one, but some of them will vary with the different thicknesses of bead stringing wire. So it's a good idea to match your crimp to the size of bead stringing wire.
So there are several different ways that you can attach crimps to your bead stringing wire. The basic premise is that first just slide your wire through your crimp and then the end of the wire can go through whatever you're using to finish your wire, a wire guardian. It then can go through a part of the clasp or a jump ring. And then you feed the wire back through the crimp. And while the wire is a lying parallel inside the crimp, you can use a variety of different tools, your choice, to flatten the crimp. You can use pliers made just for doing this and you could see that there are two openings in these crimping pliers. One is oval-shaped and one is U-shaped or crescent-shaped. And what you do is first you flatten the crimp with the oval part, and then you put it into the crescent part. And what that does is it makes a davit right there and then you put the shape sideways back into the oval part and squeeze and it will fold it over on to itself. And you always want to double check before you continue with your project. Put a tool on that loop and tug and make sure it's nice and secure. And once it's nice and secure, you can use wire cutters to cut that wire end off very close to the crimp.
And now you have a secure end and then you could slide your beads along the wire, and repeat the crimping and adding the rest of your clasp to the other end. If you don't have special crimping pliers, you can just use chain nose pliers and flatten the crimp. It will take up a little bit more space. It won't look as neat and tidy, but it will get the job done. Again, always make sure that you check before you proceed with your bead stringing. And there's also specialty tools out there like this one. It's called the one step crimper and it actually does this exact shape, but all in one step. And it's a little pricey, but handy to have.
So now that you know how to securely crimp your bead stringing wire, you can be secure in your knowledge that your jewelry isn't going to fall apart.

Wow!! Thank you!! I can’t believe how wrong I’ve been 🤣
A fantastic tutorial, to the point, clear and concise, thank you xx
It looks so easy, doesn't it? I have been having the worst time getting my crimps to work properly. I am going to follow your instructions to the letter and am also going to try the all-in-one tool. Thanks for telling us about it!
Thank you so much. Excellent demonstration! Great closeup.
Great video, it really showed me up-close what I should've been doing.
New to this, I appreciate the informative video. Who knew? Now I do - Thanks!
Thank you very much for this tip. This is exactly what I needed right now
Thanks. Very informative clear instructions
Great video. Thank you! That helps a lot.
Too bad that the demonstrator moved out of camera range when making the second crimp. That was what I wanted to learn.
Beautifully explained..thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
This us FABULOUS. I haven't done crimps for 30 years cause i wasn't doing them right. 😆
Thank you for this video, i really appreciate the explanation.
Very helpful, thank you
Thank you for your excellent instructions!
Thank you for this 😊
Very clear and informative - Thank you! please advise the type of wire that was used in this video
Thank you so much!
Great video!
Thank you! 😄🌸
Thank you for your great video. Can someone please tell be the best size wire for threading beads with approx 1mm holes?
❤Thank you!
How come some other videos on this they are doing the other way around. First the crescent shape and then the oval? I notice that different people , different ways. But shouldn't there just be a certain way? Yours look the nicest to me. For me it doesn't seem to matter because no matter what I try, a tube or a bead crimp , I can never do it right. My crimps end up literally falling apart. And I have tried different brands and types. They don't want to fold over for me. I think I may be getting them too small maybe. Can you recommend a size and brand for me to practice on that pretty much can go on any bracelet piece, especially stretchy bracelets? TY
Thank you! Simple and right to the point! I needed this!
Can I double thin cable to make it stronger if I don't have thick cable ?
Thanks for this video. But what about crimps for very fine jewelry chains? We need a video on that!
I have really only used the crimp tubes... not the bead crimps.. (the round ones) and I tried using them and the first crimp it flattened the bead.. and I went to "crimp" it on the 2nd go round the crimp bead shattered.. it was too brittle for two.. Is ther ea special crimp plier you use for round crimp beads?
If you are having trouble with crimps working buy twisted crimp & only pliers needed pricey but really solves your problem. I have done this and never looked back to get it to work.
Thank you, thank you been doing this wrong for so long!!!!!
am having problems with my crimping tube and crimp bead falling to pieces when trying to crimp them. I have used different brands and types. I even had them fall apart when they were gold. I dont understand what I am doing wrong. If I squeeze lighter they don't bend. What is a good brand and type that won't break apart? I would like to use them for making bracelets. Ty

I'm having the same problem as well. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated
What about adding on a crimp COVER to hide the not-so-pretty crimp bead? WHAT SIZE covers go on what size beads/tubes?
Thnks
Where do you get the string ?
I’m making an Anklet bracelet do I measure where I started beading or the whole thing including the clasp?

whole thing including the clasp
It's the other end I have problems with after all the beads are on. Maybe you could make a video on that! I really struggle getting the crimp bead down far enough close to the beads. Thanks

I have only used the tubes but today I tried. and you are right.. they fall apart...
I love your voice
Hi can i ask what kind of wire you are using that doesnt easily bend? Is that tiger tail wire or cable wire?
@houseofgemsonline
Жыл бұрын
Hello ! Tiger tail wire is much more flexible , the one being shown in video are Beadalon brand(cable wire) . For both flexibility and durability we recommend Beadalon.
how about twisted crimp tubes
i can't see the most important part
No one cuts the extra wire to the crimp it makes the ends point downward I told someone that worked for a bead seller as a jewelry maker and instructor and she now knows to leave about an inch of wire to keep the ends from pointing downward. Because I tried it her way and it did not look right at all so I tried it my way and it was perfect. I've seen other professionals doing this as well. But this tutorial is not for the bulldog crimp which this video was listed under. But never cut that extra piece unless it's over 1 inch.
I don't use wire I was going to use cord it's doing my head in :(

It's been a year since your comment so I'm sure you know already, but just in case.. there are similar bits made that you just fold over the end of your cord, and they have a little circle on the end to put a jump ring on.
Couldn't get to see what I actually wanted coz the demo was out of focus and frame as well
(Sigh). Did you not watch the finished video after you made it? The crucial element of the tutorial was out of focus and off screen! And you whip thru the process at full speed! Sorry, but this doesn't help me much.
Thank you so much!
