My Rouge 5 string Banjo already includes a Strap & what's really neat is that the Strap helps keep the instrument in playing position.

Thank you! My grandfather passed about a month ago and I got his banjo. An old 5 string Sovereign resonator banjo it's surprisingly still in tune despite not being played in over 40 years, I ordered some strings but being a mandolinist and guitarist was so confused at the types of straps. It's not worth anything money wise but it's worth a lot to me because it was his. It's not of an insignificant weight, and my back and joints are bad, so while I can sit classical style with it I wanted to get a strap and this was fantastically helpful. I've never played, hell I've never held, a 5 string banjo before 3 days ago so here we go down this rabbit hole.

I kinda thought if you have a mastertone/gibson type Banjo you had to start right behind the tail ? If I’m wrong I sure appreciate being squared away ! And Thankyou for any help or suggestions. I’m new to the Banjo so there is a little learning curve . I have a Goldtone if that helps .

I'm curently playing a Gold Tone OB-3 and I have a new Neotech Slimline Banjo Strap. I have always connected a strap to the first rod above the tail piece. Is there an advantage to connecting below the tail piece, and if so, should I thread under the tailpiece rod or over it? Thanks

Would adding a strap onto the hooks mess with the tension of the resonator head?

Always wondered why old time players sling the strap over their right shoulder, while modern players run the strap over their left shoulder like a guitarist?

I bought a Lakota Buffalo hide leather strap. Bad bad choice. 1. Expensive. $60. 2. Inexpensively made. Only one layer of extremely soft leather, which leads to… 3. The leather stretches. And stretches. And stretches. The holes end up as oblongs that the Chicago nuts fall through.
