www.amazon.com/shop/dogumenta... AmStaffs are stocky, muscular bull-type terriers standing 17 to 19 inches at the shoulder. The head is broad, the jaws well defined, the cheekbones pronounced, and the dark, round eyes are set wide apart. AmStaff movement is agile and graceful, with a springy gait that advertises the breed’s innate confidence. The stiff, glossy coat comes in many colors and patterns. AmStaffers describe their dogs as keenly aware of their surroundings, game for anything, and lovable “personality dogs” around the house. AmStaffs like mental and physical challenges. They are highly trainable, as their many forays into showbiz suggest. When acquiring an AmStaff, there’s only one way to go: Do your homework and find a responsible AKC breeder.

    I've owned many dogs and multiple breeds, I have never liked anything related to the pitbull breed let alone own one. I was in between dogs with my last being a beagle. I had stopped at a person's house I haven't seen in years and they had 5 dogs all varieties of pits. They had a emaciated Amstaff they kept in a tiny bedroom 24 hours a day which was previously abused before they got him. They only let the dog out to use the bathroom and was kept in the tiny bedroom the rest of the time being fed in there and with no interaction. I broke down after feeling horrible for the dog and told them I'm taking the dog and they did not have a choice in the matter which luckily they agreed. People that know me said I was a fool and had the same feelings I had with the pit breed. The dog was around 6 years old when I brought him home and after 5 months of having him I am here to say that I have never been so wrong when it comes to a dog breed. Even now I hate to admit that this is by far thee best dog I have ever owned in my life and is mind boggling to me that I am saying this after owning this animal for months instead of years. I had acclimated him to people, other animals, and children all within a few months since I live on a very active lake and he is slowly starting to win everyone over around here. I put him on a diet and exercise that now he looks as if he could win Mr. Universe and never in a million years did I ever of thought I could have taken a adult abused pitbull breed (this one being a American Staffordshire Terrier) and it turning out to be thee damn best dog I have ever owned!!!

  • @MariElle3
    @MariElle33 жыл бұрын

    💡Tip for anyone who loves bully breeds but doesn't have the energy for intense physical activity: Go to your local shelter and adopt a senior pittie. Even the ones I've had that spent their whole life on a chain, was effortlessly house trained. They are very mellow, are perfectly exercised with a short few walks a day, and after being rescued...they have an unmatched appreciation for you giving them a new family that loves them after a lifetime without it. Bonus is that you are really helping a dog that would likely otherwise be put down since so many Pitties are euthanized each year, and senior dogs are often looked over (despite being super loving, extra chill, and low maintenance compared to young dogs). They are pure magic. Most incredible dogs ever. P.s. Pitties are the only dogs I've ever had, first dog and all...but I've only had senior pitbull rescues and they are perfect for my energy level.

We also have a 3 year old Jack Russle/ Red Heeler female. They get along phenomenal. He actually just follows her around and copies her lol. I watched this video before I got my amstaff puppy almost three years ago (because some people told me that you have to be an “alpha leader” to own this type of breed). He’s now 2 and a half years old and the best thing that ever happened to me. He’s funny, loyal, social, caring, has bad patience and loves to play. My experience with this breed is that they mature pretty late and it’s not a dog you leave at home every day. They’re super social and outgoing if they’re properly socialized and are happy to follow you every where (they’re extremely loyal to their family.) I know a lot of people like to call them “nanny dogs” but I wouldn’t personally let my dog play with small children or small dog breeds. Not because he’s aggressive or doesn’t like them, it’s because these dogs are really strong/heavy and energetic and they don’t realize it themselves, they can easily accidentally knock a child over. He’s great with older children, adults and bigger dogs tho (he’s in doggie day care.) The only “negative” things I have to say is that we have to work on patience, lead pulling when he sees wild animals and they can also be big chewers. You don’t have to be super athletic to have this type of dog, they just need a balance between mental and physical stimulation (we do rally obedience for fun.) And you can not be to harsh on them (they take it personally haha) being a stable, patient, positive leader that’s fun to work with is the best way to go. With that said, if you’re interested in getting a medium active allround dog don’t look past this breed because of their bad rumor, this might be your perfect best friend.

Sometimes that would culminate in her destroying the most sacred thing in the house which is the TV remote. I went through a lot of those...

    I'd say I can believe they can have some working ability.the breed seems to have been created from a lineage of working breeds.we had an am staff mix growing up.looked a lot like the one in this video,except he's massive.lol my dad still has him,he's about 13 years old and still a pretty active dog.he is the sweetest boy ever.

    This lady knows what she’s talking about and she has beautiful dogs 😊👏🏼! The Amstaff & APBT were the same at one point, but now are 2 separate breeds used for different things. The Amstaff is mainly bred for a show type structure, definitely has more bone, more of a boxy shape, slightly lager more square shaped head, wonderful with people, most of the animal aggression has been bred out (but can still be there with some dogs like she said) and has a more calmer show dog temperament. The APBT (what I work with) is bred to the original standard of the APBT breed ( minus the fighting obviously.) They should be full of energy, built for work, shouldn’t be over done (less bone in the overall structure of the dog), slim muscular build, is prone to animal aggression (there are dogs who don’t have this trate, but it’s more common then the Amstaff,) and they absolutely should be people friendly (it is out of the standard to have a Pit Bull aggressive towards people. If your at an ADBA show and your dog barks at a judge you will be asked to leave the show ring, human aggression is not tolerated.) The are both fantastic dogs, I love both, but are now different breeds.

Yesterday i got a tattoo with his name. If you are searching for a soulmate, a friend for life, buy a AmStaff. Tony i miss you, i will never ever forget you

    I just got my 8 week old am staf 5 days ago and I’m blown away by what a GOOD dog this breed is. She learned sit her first day and does it regularly and on cue now…5 days in. She’s learning the “come” cue and doesn’t even always take the treat, she started to just tap her nose to my hand and then goes back to playing. Cracks me up. Loves her crate, fully 💩 housebroken (her bladder is tiny, so I know it take a while) She’s already the star of the neighborhood. 🥹

    To most: yes...you will see this "type" of dog in a shelter. The AST is much different from what most shelters are going to have - its going to be mostly APBTs. I'm just reiterating what others have said...different breed. An AST is not going to sit in a shelter for long.

    I always say there are many breeds that are great at certain things, but amstafs/apbt's can do everything good. Imo the best all around dog breed. Also easy grooming, relatively healthy, no slobber or crazy shedding, just a great low maintenance dog with a great temperament and great physique.

    You wouldn't recommend this breed for a first time dog owner, yet mine fell into my lap because she was kicked out and became a stray after being bred..... It depends on the person I would say. I've never even lived with a dog...but this is the BEST dog I've met ever. I would die for my dog. And I train her as much as I can and I watch what I can to learn more. IF YOU HAVE PASSION: Get an amstaff.
