Alistair Begg, has become one of my favourite preachers. It’s a shame this sermon only has 29,000 views…when you have people claiming they’re God almighty and their speech’s have millions of views. God bless Dr. Begg and these men that can properly handle the word of God.

Thank God, our Jesus for men like this man. Expose all those false, ‘how do you feel” preachers! Jesus, help us all to expose the lies of the enemy. Every man should do his duty. Or woman, in my case.

Certainly a fine message in many respects, but a few corrections need to be made. The speaker and others fail to understand Acts 20 where Paul preached until midnight. The Greek word for "preaching," has more to do with "teaching with dialogue or discussion." In other words, it's not exactly like many experience in churches today where one man is doing all the talking, where there is no room for discussion, questions or even disagreements. Paul was probably asked many questions, and there was much lively dialogue, for this congregation might never see Paul again. So this long length of time and occasion made perfect sense. Also the speaker refers to Romans 10:17 and applies it to all the Word of God whereas in that context it is referring specially to the Gospel. In fact, even in Acts 8, where Phillip was preaching, it was in regard to this very same Gospel. Certainly Begg's statement that a pastor does not preach his "own opinions," is a noble one, but hardly ever found to be true. These pastors are like all of us and constantly teach their own opinions. Most church division, new churches being formed, etc., has been as a result from the man behind the pulpit. He refers to Acts 15:35 (though he doesn't give the exact verse, this is the one he is referring to). He says that in this verse both "teaching and preaching" are used in regard to Paul and Barnabas which is true. However, he errs when he says that teaching merely, logically, explains what the Word means, but preaching appeals to the heart. Though sometimes true, it is not always true. A teacher should always desire to teach "with application." Also Begg like many in his chosen profession sees a clergy/laity system in the church. He says that we need to have "praying, humble pastors," and "praying, humble, congregation members." He sees a division where there is not supposed to be one. Jesus was opposed to a clergy/laity system (Matthew 23). Now this does not mean that there aren't spiritual Shepherds who love on God's people and come alongside them and also shield them from false teaching, but they operate much like in the role of the Holy Spirit, in that they are alongside you guiding, cheering you on, loving on you. They are not seeking to be "number one," or "the guy!" In fact, when we read one of the very few instructions (if not the only one) in the New Testament that describes what a "meeting," is like among God's people, it is in 1 Corinthians 14:26, "...When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all thing be done for edification." During the early church, when the assembled gathered for a meeting, everyone came in preparation to share. It wasn't a "one-man show." Just as Paul experienced in Acts 20, there was certainly teaching, but also questions, dialogue, prayer, communion, etc. We have robbed God's people the joy of participation when coming together and assigned the spotlight to one man who is considered the C.E.O. over the assembled. We need to reach back in time and leave man's traditions and experience what the early believers experienced.

Well said 👍👍 Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a church where members could participate (as in the “When you come together every one of you has a Psalm...” etc.) and then they wouldn’t be biblically illiterate as so many are today and we wouldn’t make idols/celebrities out of our favorite preachers.

@@mary-janechambers3596 Yes, In fact I wrote a recent ebook on Amazon on this same subject, "The Church Is Not The Church," where I touch upon this and many other problems with the current day church. Jesus opposed the clergy/laity system in Matthew 23, and yet all churches practice it wholesale while they attack each other. In fact, I've come to believe that the current day church is apart of the apostasy. Now, this doesn't mean there are not saved believers there, just that they are submitting to a manmade human religious organization. Having at one time been a senior pastor myself, I got to experience this from the inside.

The Apostle Paul's and other Jewish believers, were following the tradition of the Yeshivas and synagogues..where debate, questions etc were the order of the day. It was not neccesarily a model for today, though there is much to be gained from it. They also ordained deacons, so there was a kind of "hierarchy"" (for want of a better word) in place. Also, when "churches"" such as the Corinth one were all participating, it got out of order and control, so it is not a perfect way either. Find what works best for your culture and believers. A.Begg is a fine teacher, and has done excellent teaching since decades ago.

...is not a foolproof "method "either. Do what is best for your culture, and the believers there. A.Begg is a fine teacher (as in Ephesians Ch2 Ministry gifts given to the Body_) and has been for decades.

@@patriciafleming9725 Appreciated your comments. 1 Cor. 14:26 is probably our only verse on the construction of our meeting together. It is clear from that verse, that everyone had come to share. This promotes true fellowship. You said, "such as the Corinth one were all participating, it got out of order and control, so it is not a perfect way either." The example of Corinth as an illustration as to why not to do something in a certain way doesn't play. The Apostles were certainly encouraging this type of fellowship, but whenever human intervention (with sin) enters the scene, even the best mode of fellowship can be soured. Having one man give a lecture regarding his opinions on Scripture is not the best mode of fellowship though at times instructional. Though I don't agree with Begg on many issues, this doesn't mean he isn't a good teacher (in fact, I think I said that in an earlier comment). You mentioned, "They also ordained deacons, so there was a kind of "hierarchy"". In the New Testament church the fellowship wasn't divided as it is today where you have cities filled with various denominations and churches. Paul told Titus to go and appoint "elders in every city." The church is not subdivided in one city, but is one church. I believe this is part of the apostasy. Also the church didn't have local salaried pastors who were basically hirelings of the various congregations.

I always cringe at the audience’s inability to keep up with the preacher’s demeanor. Stop laughing and clapping. It’s not a comedy show
