I bought one two years ago first thing I changed was the bridge also. Plays great stays in tune.

I bought one from your first review …. Agreed on all your points !!!! The electronics sound fine.. tremolo was great if you didn’t use it. Neck is chunky but plays great. Used the tremolo base plate, put an Ibanez edge brass block, noiseless springs, floyd rose saddles and screws, floyd rose locking nut, tremolo stopper and did change out the pickup to a Wolfgang…. It now looks the part and flat kicks ass!!!! Thank you for going into detail on your review and giving us all a heads up on what to expect …. There were no surprises thanks to your review …. Thank you again 😊

I have a tribute KRAMER-Stein guitar that is like a franky/5150 hybrid.. with the cheapest ebay FR knockoff I could find.. (cca 8,5 gbp) and it works ok.. as long as it lies braced on the top of the body (needs a neck shin tho) and for safety there is a trem-stop thingy making sure it really ony dives.. and when you set the springs tighter... it returns to pitch safely..

3:36 I think the smell comes from the factories where they make these products, pretty much everything aliexpress sells (incl. clothes, sneakers, tech, etc.) arrives with that rubbery, plastic smell. Maybe they have something they spray the items down with before they ship to try and "preserve" their quality, who knows, all i know is they're not too conservative about applying it.

I built my 5150 from from a real Kramer body and custom neck.The pickup is a SD VH custom.I used laquer primer with red and white and black and clear coated everything.

I had to get the neck replaced the fretboard was crap so I had to order another neck and I'm going to have the paint job done to match the body so other than that I mean I did have to switch the bridge out like you recommended because the whammy bar just snapped in half

That was great, very entertaining. I remembered how I made fun of you in the first video where you said it smells horrible and you proceeded to get an extra big sniff in, goo times. 🤣🤣

It’s funny how the knockoff guitars I bought come in better packaging then my squiers, last squier I ordered the neck was halfway unscrewed from the guitar

AliExpress also sells what looks like the Ernie Ball guitar that used to be associated with Eddie Van Halen

Do you have specs for the FR special? R2 or not and stuff like that

It an R2 nut. Specs are the same as the FRS details listed on floydrose.com. The only thing different about this is the brushed steel finish and the brass block I added. Cheers!

“Let’s hope that’s wood” lol. Great for a tribute guitar you could sand the s**t out of. The 5150 stickers have to go lol. Maybe you could lay the proper ones over top? Incidentally I use to sand all my necks that shape back in the 80’s. I’d relic the heck out of it, reshape the headstocks slightly and see it I couldn’t find an older Floyd for it. Sounds great anyway 🤘Damn nice comp of 🍦 solo!

Thanks! I think I might just end up doing that eventually for a bit more on point aesthetic. Yeah, those stickers are pretty terrible 😆. That’s super cool about the necks! I hadn’t heard of that being done before for a flatter feel higher up - totally makes sense 🤯. Yes, that headstock shape is pretty far off the mark 🤣. I’m not minding the FR Special in there to be honest. It’s a brushed steel one, so kinda looks the part and has been super stable since the swap. If anything, these days I’d probably go for a GOTOH - crazy value for money. Oh! I have a super old OFR from the early 80s. One without fine tuners, but I think that might be more suited for a Frankie build? 🤔

@@dexdeimos425 The Gotoh’s are solid eh? I’m going to try a upgrade of stainless steel saddles and fine tuners/string lock screws on a special and see if it matters. More for look and to see if an 80 dollar upgrade matters….just super curious lol. That and a big brass block. Maybe a bit better sustain we’ll see. That axe would look nice with a heavy relic like Ed’s. He of course had no clear coat on anything so it was broken in easily. He said the greasy worn smooth surfaces made guitars way faster. I sanded the upper range of the neck of my Kramer Ad Frankie to great effect. It’s a premium neck so I was hesitant but it helps a lot. Interestingly it is not necessary on my EVH Bumblebee or my Wolfgang?! Not sure why though lol…

Hopefully I’ll find some time to do that, but it won’t be on the fake ones that come from aliexpress. Those ones are quite obvious. The Floyd Rose Specials you buy separately from eBay are the ones I had in mind. They almost look identical to the real ones. I have one sitting around, but don’t have an uninstalled Floyd rose special to compare it agains at the moment. 🤷‍♂️

"This is counterfit".... *breaking the law intensifies* 😂....cool video though! A shame that quality can be hit or miss...the paint job on it looks ok....good enough for a project guitar...i'd be unable to do a decent paintjob too.

I can’t remember precisely, but I don’t think I got charged duties and brokerage on this one 🤔. The Rhoads V I have ended up costing me around $60 CAD in import fees. A lot of this I suppose depends on which country you reside in, however, two out of the three guitars I bought from AliExpress didn’t cost me anything beyond the fee I paid to them directly. Luck of the draw with border agents I guess. 🤷‍♂️

My Steinberger GM2 clone took 2 months to get to Connecticut from China.

It’s an ok guitar. You can buy much nicer guitars for $300. You need to keep in mind that a trem upgrade is mandatory on this for it to be playable, so it’s really a $400 dollar guitar by then. This is definitely not in the same league as Kramer or Jackson guitars at the price point. Cheers. 🍻

The only things worse than companies making knockoffs, are the people that buy them...

Fenders quality control is absolute dog s*** at the moment, so I wouldn't imagine it would be a night and day difference in quality..

Shoulda bought a GOTOH floyd ...$90 and Japanese steel ..the best floyd out there

Oh man, your customs bum me, seriously. Here they either don't know what's what or they don't care. I managed to slip a rosewood board through them during the CITES measures, no paperwork whatsoever. No one said anything.
