Fun Gun Reviews Presents: Alien Gear Holsters : Is it Hype or Quality? I've seen the slick marketing and all the ads but figured it was a cheap design considering the price. Let's check it out.

    I remember watching this review back in 2015 or 2016 when I was looking for a quality holster. 5 years later I’m still rocking the same Cloak Tuck Original patent pending IWB Holster lol. Thank you for having made this video, it was my driving force in this purchase and it remains to this day one of my best purchases. At the time it was like $45, and it’s paid itself off many many times over. This things gone through multiple handguns and 5 years of literally everyday wear and it’s help up immaculately! Thanks Sootch for a solid and honest review!

    I have had the original design for over 3 years now, carrying every day and it still hold the same as the day I got it. These are high quality and I have no issue recommending this company to anyone who asked what holster they should buy. Really great products and really great business practices all around.

    I have 3 of their holsters. They are very good quality, comfortable, and nice looking.I've swapped out shells, and the turnover time was 7 days for both. I paid the initial shipping and they pay the return shipping. They also send extra screws, spacers, and an Allen wrench with each swap. This company is the real deal and their merger with old faithful holsters only allowed them to expand in quality. I highly recommend this holster company!!!

    I ordered a left handed 3.0 for my new CZ Rami and they couldn't get it right because of the safety version and decocker version of the gun. It took them 2 weeks to ship the holster, which usually takes 2-3 days and they gave it to me for free. That hooked me...that my friends is what you call real customer service.. love the holsters and now have 4 of them. Buy with confidence, you won't be disappointed.

    The purpose is two fold. 1- To scan for any additional threats. 2- To help break tunnel vision. The second to me is the most important, and if you have ever studied the physiology of a shooting, you'd understand it's importance.

    A couple of deep breaths REALLY helps with vision. Moving prior to shooting may give you the advantage too. The bad guy may have tunnel vision and you may disappear if you move three feet to the right.

    It's not limited to shooting....we have to struggle against our natural responses in a *fight*. The natural response is to focus on the known threat. If you think it's limited solely to shooting, then I invite you to spend some time on the mat in a decent martial arts training facility.

  • @smitty4699

    God, I still just dont get the whole scanning 360 thing.. I understand you need to be aware of whats going on around you because you could develop tunnel vision in the event of a high stress situation, however, the whole "Owl" spinning your head around seems ridiculous

  • @TeamTopKick

    Your looking for threats. Making sure there is no other threats and breaking tunnel vision. Problem is alot of people just go through the motions but are not actually looking.

    It's range theatrics that absolutely nobody is going to do in an actual confrontation. Who stands still and snatches their gun back rather than moving their body with their scan and quickly changing position? People that learn stupid habits.

  • @MyDyerMaker

    @MyDyerMaker

    It's ridiculous to assume there's only one threat.

  • @jeffohmart7053

    @jeffohmart7053

    5 жыл бұрын

    It's not theatrics. Once you stop the threat, assess the threat...do you need to re-engage. If not, scan for another threat...and I highly suggest you do so without pointing your gun at anyone/everyone around you. If there are other ccw people around, or off or on duty LEO's, they probably didn't see what caused you to shoot but they will see that you just shot somebody and are now pointing your gun at them. Now you are their threat.

  • @sikaaaa

    @sikaaaa

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@jeffohmart7053 A low semi-extended ready could accomplish the same without almost completely breaking your shooting form. Yes, we're not waving things about, but you do not have to snatch your pistol all the way to your body to be passive. As for scanning, you'd want to do so as you move to an advantageous space like cover or a less open area to prepare for further contact, not stand still and wait for it to potentially come to you. Twisting your head about in a dangerous scene without attempt to move away from it makes no sense outside of limited space.

    I already had plenty of holsters but my father was looking for CC holsters for a Glock 17 and a Smith 642 and bought an Alien Gear 2.0 for each of them. After assembling the holsters with the belt loops, he put the holster on his belt and holstered his 642. The first time he holstered the revolver, the front of the cylinder ripped the synthetic back of the 2.0 open. He contacted AG and requested permission to return the holsters for a refund. AG stood behind their product, issued a refund and told him not to bother sending the holsters back. Since they were his anyway I made leather backings for the kydex shells. For the money, AG might work for you. If it doesn't, they do have a top notch warranty. I would highly recommend the leather backing to avoid any issues.

    I took a CCW class at the beginning of October 2015. The Instructors were Ex-Marines who now worked in the business of protecting Stars and VIPs'. They had "Raven" Kydex Holsters. I looked on-line and found them on the expensive side. However after searching the Internet I found a similar Kydex Holster at "Pale Horse Concealment Solutions". I purchased an Outside the Waistband Kydex Holster for my Ruger LC9s-Pro pistol. I love it. It is nice and thin and hugs my body. Plus I like the way the gun clicks into place.

    People ask this question all the time. It seems they fail to notice when Sootch has criticisms of a product, even though he likes it overall... And like Sootch said, why bother reviewing stuff that sucks, when there's so much good stuff out there? Yes, negative reviews can be useful, but so are good reviews, and I imagine good reviews are more fun.

  • @sootch00

    @sootch00

    Howjadoo22 I couldn't have said it better Howjadoo22. It takes so much work to produce a video and good solid products are what motivate me. Yes, I do point out issues that I see or preferences but it's not about what fits my style but the design of the product and quality.There are too many great gear options out there to bother with stuff that has inferior quality or poorly designed. Please call me out if I've missed something or misrepresented a product, because if I have, it's not intentional. Too many people buy on my recommendation and I take that VERY seriously...... my word is more important to me than anything I review. Thanks~

    Yea man this is my experience as well. I got my Cloak Tuck 2.0 in about 4-5 weeks. I then ended up buying a new M&P9c so I ordered a new shell and I'm going into my 5th week of lead time. In the email it says partial products such as shells have a 1-2 week lead time so I contacted support to see what the issue was. They apologized like mad and are sending me a free series of clips at no cost. (Keep in mind I didn't complain on the phone just called to make sure my order didn't get lost.) They said if it doesn't ship by the end of the week to keep calling back and they'll keep sending free merchandise. They really want your business and I think they deserve it. I will probably buy holsters from them exclusively just due to their customer service and warranty.

    Steve Rouse If you ever saw the small facility in Republic you'd know why there have been delays from Crossbreed. A few weeks ago they moved into Springfield and maybe the new facility will allow them to increase production of everything. I'm sure you're right, new CCW holders are causing every manufacturer to work at max capacity, maybe even to look for more work space.

    I've had an Alien original for years, but only recently realized I can get a FREE replacement shell, now that I have changed pistol make. You have helped me understand the value of neoprene in daily use, as well. Your analysis, as always, is very thorough and helpful. Your outtakes at the end were really funny -- maybe funnier, as your standard message is always serious, and you revealing that you are not "perfect" teaches the rest of us, it's okay to be imperfect, and even funny. I'm very grateful for your ongoing excellent work.

    OH GOD looking both ways before holstering just makes me angry. It's tactilol just like you see all these "operators" on KZread with their stupid "push" stance where they look like a robot. None of this is necessary to shoot a gun well, it hinders most as they focus so much on this shit and not just shooting the gun well.

    It may look silly to you or whatever, but it is a smart move (do it before drawing too). Just off the top of my head, Google the Las Vegas cop killer couple from back in June that went into a Wal-Mart and planned to kill responding officers there as well. Joseph Wilcox, a concealed carrier, did try to engage the male shooter. The female shooter walked up behind him and killed him because he never considered there were multiple shooters working together. All too easy to lock in on one and lose situational awareness. If we could ask him, I think Mr. Wilcox would tell you that shooting a gun well doesn't much matter when you never get off a shot at all. Interestingly, the couple killed themselves right after that, so Wilcox still stopped them. I guess they chickened out when customers started trying to take them out - don't think they planned on that.

    NO it's checking for additional threats before you re-holster, It's good to practice it so it becomes habit to scan for other threats, Sootch has been doing that in many of his videos...And why do you have the screen name xXxBlackwaterXxX If you have "operators" so much? Blackwater has been the biggest posers of the real "Silent Professionals" such as US Army Special Forces and US Navy SEALs...Just saying, We didn't have any respect for Blackwater while I was in the military since they didn't abide by RoE and put our guys at risk because they wanted to act "Operator" for other trash like Haliburton...

    Another fanboy toy!!! Okay , here's my opinion. I wear business attire to work everyday to include dress shirts which require tucking in. I just recently bought a new S&W Shield .40 a few months ago. The day it arrived i purchased a DeSantis SOF-TUK holster because it was highly rated, available in store locally and very inexpensive. There a couple of things i didn't exactly like about it at first, but overall, this holster was really nice and i liked it a lot, until; Until the day i decided to buy an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3. I watched all the videos and listened to all the rave reviews and man, did it look cool. I could not wait until it came in. it did, and i got the whole package of goodies. I was happy. Then....I put it on. Something wasn't right. The fit, was tighter, bulkier, harder to maneuver and just plain weird. My first thought was , okay wear this thing for the month they provide and let it adjust. This is week number three. Today I am wearing my DeSantis SOF-TUK and what a difference. I will not purchase or wear another Alien gear holster. It was the most uncomfortable holster to date. Why? Okay, I'll list the problems i had: 1.) It was bigger and bulkier than my DeSantis. I had to adjust one extra notch in my belt. My pants were very snug (almost uncomfortable) and was so after 8 hours. 2.) The belt clips would NOT remain in place. They insisted on canting outwards. They wold not stay straight up and down, and looked very awkward on my belt. I can provider pictures but i think you get it. The belt clips would not remain vertical. 3.) I read about the screws coming loose and they were right. I tightened all of them after opening and one week later, all of them were loose. Probably why the belt clips kept moving. (okay, i could have used loctite, but why should i have to?) 4.) The width and height should have made it more comfortable, but it didn't. The top of the holster poked in my upper back, while the wide sides of the holster poked in my lower back on occasion. 5.) now the really fun part. Try tucking your shirt into this baby...Holy crap dudes/dudettes! This took 5 or more minutes in the bathroom in front of a mirror to get right. You have to tuck under one belt clip, then tuck down behind the holster, then tuck behind the next clip, and then finally you have to untuck/blouse evenly from the non-holster side back around the holster side. This took time and often i had to completely undo and redo. (p.s. they make it look so easy in the videos, lol.) 6.) and finally the straw that broke this proverbial camels back; Drawing my weapon! Everyday when i come home, I practice drawing from the holster before putting my firearm away to get used to drawing from this holster. On several occasions after i came home, i grabbed my shirt and yanked upward as if to draw, only to find the tucked in shirt was caught up underneath the holster or under a belt clip and i could not draw. AT ALL. I ripped one dress shirt in the process. DONE! I am sending this holster back. It looks amazing! It comes in neoprene! It has super detailed kydex shell! it has the cool alien logos and comes with stickers and extra goodies. But at the end of the day and as much as i hate to write this, it is the most uncomfortable and unwearable holster i have tried. I really wanted this holster and tried for weeks to make it work. Today i am wearing my DeSantis and I am very happy! Good luck to those who purchase this holster, and i hope it gives you a better experience.

    I have several of these holsters and I really like them. I just purchased the cloak tuck package for my Glock 30s and it is great. I pretty much only use these for all my carry needs. I even suggested they make a holster for the Canik TP 9 and they returned my e-mail the same day. This is a great American company and you will not be disappointed.

    I love the 2.0 I got few weeks ago, after a crossbreed and old faithful, this is just as solid imo.. Also. The leather ones were creating wet spot that actually began surface rust on the m&p. The table mat holster is a great barrier and no wet gun issues. Lighter, just as solid, and no rust issue, I'm in. .. TNJR

    Alien gear is shit. The screws on the clip constantly loosen on there own. They also make it to big. They need to round the bottom and figure out a way to keep the screws from backing out. Hidden Hybrid Holsters are the way to go.

    I have been using my Aliengear holster for a little over a year and a half and I have to say it has held up very well. It has a little wear on the leather, but this is to be expected on a piece of leather that is subjected to sweat and high humidity conditions. It has great retention and is very comfortable. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

    Name calling? Refuting an argument? I can (and admittedly did) do both, albeit with a heavy load of sarcasm. But its called reading comprehension. Not being an attention seeker is a very valid reason for not having posted any videos. I already have the knowledge, so what do I care if you believe me or not? I have nothing to prove to an anonymous asshole too afraid to even post with his real name. I could, if so inclined (which I'm not, cause you really don't matter) provide proof of my employment history, the fact I've literally been working with guns and explosives since I was a child due to my dad, my extensive credentials in various martial arts, the weapons courses I've taken, or the armorers courses I've taken since I decided to legitimately start a small business as a gunsmith, but I won't. Cause again, the opinion of a keyboard warrior means nothing to me. But by all means, continue to embarrass yourself to the internet. Very obviously, my attention brings you validation, and you so desperately cling to it you'll continue responding.... But I won't. I got better things to do. I await (not) your next irrational response.

    I got an original "Cloak Tuck"last spring (2014) for my full size Para 1911. I've tried a bunch of different IWB holsters. The Alien quickly became my favorite. It has been my primary IWB and has seen near daily wear since last March. I have an Uncle Mike's that is a smidge more comfortable but it gives up stability and securing the firearm in place.

    After years of searching for that perfect holster "for me" I finally found them. They are the Alien Gear IWB 3.0 and, the Alien Gear Cloak Belt OWB. These holsters have AG's new super soft and even more breathable neoprene backings AND, all the studs on the back are completely covered for out of this world all day comfort right up against your skin. No t-shirt required is you don't want. - The new Cloak Belt Holster's neoprene backing wider so it spreads out the weight of your pistol even better. I have both of these holsters because they're so relatively inexpensive and I don't like swapping the same kydex shell back and forth between IWB and OWB for my Glock G30S. I carry nearly 24/7/365 in hot and muggy NE Oklahoma where summer time humidity and sweat are measured by the bucket. These AG holsters make carrying while doing all sorts of manual labor and relaxing on my small farm/ranch a breeze.

    Great review as always. I own the original cloak tuck and carried a Sig P250 subcompact .45 for some time in it. I later bought a M & P Shield 9mm. I called Aliengear customer service and I swapped out the shell I had for the sig for one for my Shield. Free. No charge. The customer service rep was very polite and helpful, which kinda surprised me. The quality of these holsters is pretty darn good. I can't see paying at least twice the price for another brand when these are as good as advertised. I carry every day, all day and they are comfortable. I just bought a 1911 rail gun and need to order one for it. This time I think I will go for the tuck 2 since it is supposed to be even more comfortable.

    Thanks for this video! I was a customer of Old Faithful Holsters that has since merged with Alien Gear and now own a couple Alien Gear brand holsters as well. I do not get to carry everyday due to a restricted carry permit (NY...go figure) but my assessment of the products is the same. I even felt the same way about the Cloak 2.0 until I tried it and as you discovered the comfort is top notch. In the past month I even had Alien Gear recommended to me during a chance encounter with a local LEO that had nothing but praises for the system. I really appreciate you reviewing the OWB holster. I have not yet had the opportunity to try one but have been interested in them and by your review I see they are still pretty concealable for being OWB. Thank you for the straight forward, no nonsense presentation of the information. Great job!

    I bought two of the IWB cloak tuck style. I wore one almost every day for about 6 months and it started to rust on all the back sides of their little rivnuts against my skin. Not long after, the plastic liner that is in between the neoprene and the vinyl outer side cracked and it became very floppy and weak. I was also disappointed with how the neoprene was holding so much moisture! Most of the day, it was glued to my hip and all damp! I called them directly and explained my situation, they mailed me out a rush package with new LEATHER bases for both of my holsters for FREE! That's worth something right there! So now I am three days into trying our the plain old simple leather style. I'm hoping for the best. The stupid little rivnuts are still made of steel ( should be stainless ) and they are a bit sharp on the edges- or should I say "were", I filed them down a little bit to take the edges off so it won't scrape my soft white ass like the last one did. One of those situations where I wish I could walk through their factory for a day and point out all the stupid oversights for them. I would highly caution against buying the plastic/neoprene style as much as they try to sell it, it just doesn't work. Not enough stiffness to hold your piece up and it will crack all apart eventually. Their guaranty is their only saving quality for me right now..... Go leather.

    Love this holster!!! I have a Cloak Tuck 1.0 for my Ruger P97. The P97 is one of the few guns that is not included in their selection of available holsters. I ordered the P90 holster and it was almost an exact fit. I modified the small variations with my paint stripping heat gun. To increase the retention, I heated the area that covers the trigger guard and pushed the kydex into the opening of the trigger guard just enough to create a little bump inside the holster. I also ordered extra shells for two other pistols and change them out as necessary.

Because of the very hot summer I have always worn an t-shirt underneath because of sweat. I would recommend this holster because of quality and price. I also have a Crossbreed Holster (IWB) for my 19 but have favored the Alien because of comfort.
