that only tends to be the case for blade runner, and now that he owns the studio making his movies, the studio ordered cut and the director cut are one in the same. no one tells RS to cut now a days.

NurseRatchetHo Ridley owns Scott Free; the production company. There's a difference between a production company and a studio. The studio is Fox which Ridley does NOT own. Ridley answers to them and it is Fox that definitely mandated that this film be distanced from Prometheus which they viewed as a failure. We know that is was Fox that wanted an Alien prequel rather than a direct followup to Prometheus that Ridley wanted to make. He's said himself that he had no desire to revisit the xenomorph because he felt that it was no longer scary but the backlash against Prometheus changed that. I don't believe for a second that Scott changed his mind about the Xeno either; I think you could tell from the movie that he wasn't totally comfortable in shooting it and was more wanting to tell David's story and focus on the pathogen and the neomorphs. But nah there a multiple films by him that the studio cut was far inferior to his original vision. You've already pointed out one: Blade Runner. There was also the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven. Prometheus is another example; so much good content was left on the cutting room floor. The Robin Hood director's cut was pretty minor, granted, but it did help with character development to an extent. Same can be said for Black Hawk Down; minor additions to just help to extend the film in a positive way. Hell, even the original Alien can be seen as an example of improvements made in a director's cut. So there's a lot of precedent for this in Ridley's filmography and those are just the one's I can think of off the top of my head. If you dug deeper, you'd find more. And A:C is a film BEGGING for a director's cut. Like just from watching it you can tell that it really was cut to bits in post and we're already hearing of specific things they cut that we're sure to see in a home release. And hopefully the response to Covenant will give Fox some more constructive feedback that they'll leave to Ridley to address in the followup. Because let's face it, Ridley is not a bad director. He just objectively isn't. In his entire filmography there is only ONE movie he made which could be considered a bad film at that is 1492: Conquest of Paradise back in the 90s. And the Alien franchise is one that has a long history of having problems resulting from too many cooks in the kitchen and from studio interference. That's been the precedent set since the first film. The exception to that was the first AvP movie where they more or less gave Paul W. S. Anderson free reign to shoot after he presented his plan to reduce production costs. That was a critical bomb of course but did financially well enough to justify a sequel which tanked both critically and financially and that was with a tighter leash from Fox. Similar thing has happened here. Ridley had more freedom with Prometheus and the film he produced was divisive; Prometheus was not a bad film but certainly had problems (which we can also see similar instances of film's like that in the rest of his filmography). And similar to AvP:R Fox learned the wrong lessons from the first installments and that resulted in an even more flawed product. The difference in this case is that Ridley Scott is a far better director than the Strauss Brothers will every be and did his best to make a quality film within the mandates set forth by the higher ups. And that effort shows and Covenant is on track to perform decently in the box office and hopefully, Scott can make a movie he wants with Awakening.

Critically I think you're right; it will do worse than Prometheus. But financially I think it has the potential to do better just due to name brand recognition and the fact that it has slightly more mass appeal than it's predecessor as it is being billed as a straightforward horror film (although that's not what we got). And it's reviews from major media outlets have on the whole been okay. Not great, mind you, but okay. The loudest critics have been longtime fans. It also did have a pretty strong opening at 2nd at the Box Office behind Guardians of the Galaxy (which has been a darling amongst critics and audiences) which it just overtook like today (but just barely). Unless something big changes in the next couple weeks, I think it's safe to say we're getting another one. Scott has already gone on record saying that he wants to begin filming by the end of the year. My biggest worry is actually what if Alien: Covenant does TOO well. Like worse movies than it have gone on to be mega hits so what if it performs will enough that Fox can tune out legitimate criticisms and we end up stuck with more of the same with Awakening?

From what I have seen in a couple of articles... there was no shooting of the fight as they wanted to keep the Horror and suspense of the film rather than turn it into an action film where you'll have two monsters fighting each other and eliminate the suspense and horror. which would have made it seem like a crossover film like AvP.

UPDATE: So I finished reading the Alien: Covenant novelization, and this scene actually appears! It sounded awesome and is such a shame we didn't see it on screen. There's so much deleted stuff for Covenant, I'm really hoping the Blu-Ray has some great content! Also special thanks to AvP Galaxy user "El_Diablo" for the info regarding this scene.

Hybrid Network I plan on trying to get Fox to pick up my script. It's already ready. I might have to tweak it a little depending on what happens with Blade runner 2049 and Alien Awakening though so it would be a while before it drops. if Fox won't pick it up then I plan on putting on this Channel if Nick will have it. I can't get into too much but it jumps throughout time in a linear fashion starting w Eldon Tyrell mentoring Peter Walyand. Yutani and a CEO from Wal-Mart (thanks Alien 3) are in it

Oram kills one of the Neomorphs, but the one in the wheat field survives after being shot a few times. It runs off and we don't see it again.

This would have been a great scene

Deleted/Extended scenes are the biggest cringe; Neomorph's CGI was Amazing thought

One of the neomorph didn't just vanish in the wheat field scene.. it was shot dead in that scene.. although it is a very quick scene..so we did see both neos die..

It would have made more sense of the neomorphs were living in the surrounding woods. It made little sense from a logical and a film perspective that a planet was infected yet there was no xenomorphs to be seen, except for the human derived ones. It also has the benefit that the audience can't predict how many creatures are available.

The first Neomorph ran out of the lander before it exploded. The second Neomorph was Killed by the captain when David was trying to bond with it. Many people state that the first Neomorph was killed in the wheat field by getting shot several times during both Neomorphs attack on the humans in the Wheat field.

Now is the time that you create a video about what Alien: Awakening must include, among them, answering unanswered questions from Prometheus and close the loop with Alien. You are the best, so it will be an amazing video I'm sure!

Sweet Karma remember the crew member who got face hugged for just a split second and when removed his face was burned? that thing even though it was on his face for a few seconds it still implanted the embryo in him.

Lope was one of the few characters who didn't deserve to die, he actually lost someone close, got over it and fought with all his might.

I seem to remember them killing one of the neomorphs when they were attacked by both in the field after the dropship exploded. I mean when I saw it in the theater it played out right there on the big screen plain as day...or night as it were.

there was a few parts from the trailers that i don't remember seeing in the movie..

It wasn't on the lander when it blew up, you see it run down the ramp and into the field before the crew shows up.

So they cut out this, the final supper scene, and the entire scene with David and Shaw. 3 scenes which would have made this so much better

They should've put that scene in. Throughout the movie i kept thinking the second Neomorph would be brought in a fight or at least seen getting on the ship towards the end.

There was two Neomorphs in the movie. One died when the ship blew up, and the other got shot a David's place. I guess that's why it got cut.

Hey Nick, love your vids! It cracked me up though to hear you say the xenomorph would have dodged bullets (which it's fast enough to do) yet it couldn't dodge a crane or rolling bulldozer! I just hated that in Covenant

David wanted to create the perfect specie - "the original Alien".

It still doesn't change that David did in fact imitated and created his own Controlled version of xenomorphs.

They definitely shoulda kept this scene. I loved the creepiness in the way the Neomorph galloped through the citadel before it scaled the wall and I think it would've been great to have it running at Daniels like that while Lobe attempts to shoot the Xenomorph

I feel it would of dealt a more serious blow to the tone making it more of an edge of your seat kind of thing. i did hear the same thing about the neo and technically proto actually having it out in a brawl and I was disappointed that it wasn't there. in the comics and games there have been different species of the morphs fighting and killing each other and it would of been epic to glimpse that on the big screen.

nice to see Go Pro cameras will still be around long into the Future. Space travel has evolved we have cryo suspension, great human advancement,but the only way to capture action footage is a bloody Go Pro, so much for progress..

Last time I remember was that one them went to that bathroom/ shower and killed that woman and then it was shot to death by the captain. Don't remember the second one being killed.

we need a virtual workprint of this movie and Prometheus. Ridley is notorious for not giving the fans what they want as far as deleted scenes go via a directors cut. Something he could learn from Jim Cameron.

Certainly think this scene should have been in to explain the time gap it took X and the Primomorph to get the shuttle sense both where not that far away. Could have used it as a way to show (no spoiler) that the primomorph is more aggressive and isn't going to lick the hairs of a horse, rather bite it's head off.

That scene would be awesome! Hopefully we see something like that in the director's cut!

The second Neomorph literally was killed by the new Captain. The first one was killed in the field as a juvenile Neomorph, whereas the second one was driven off by David's flare.

Wait a minute, I thought the neomorph that escaped into the field was the one David was making contact with in the Citidal? Did I miss something?

I really hope the Blu-ray and DVD release sees the inclusion of an Extended Edition of the movie. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case with Prometheus, although it does included alternate and deleted scenes in a separate menu. I appreciate that kind of feature but I like the idea of an uncut, extended version better. Most blu-ray releases see that type of treatment nowadays, anyway. I did think much of it at the time, but now after seeing this video, it makes sense. In the movie, Daniels and the guy, stand back to back, he pointed at the temple entrance and Daniels facing the open terrain behind them. Watching in the theater, I did have a quick thought as to why that was when it was assumed the Xenomorph was coming the way the guy was facing. Now that this Neomorph and Xenomorph theory has been thrown in, it makes sense. That must of been part of the scene with the two monsters coming from the two directions and them facing to prepare. I really hope we get an extended version with the Blu-ray release. I always think it adds for a new take on a film. It's exciting!!

It would have been good to see a Neomorph vs Xenomorph battle as it would help establish how the Xenomorphs are a next level evolutionary upgrade to the Neomorphs.
