Just thought I would point out that these are all different planets. LV426 (Acheron) is a moon actually and is the planet from the first film where they find the Engineers ship AND the setting of the second film where Hadley’s Hope terraforming station is located. Fiorina 161 is the planet from the 3rd movie. LV-223 is also a moon and is the neighbor to Acheron (LV-426) from the first two films. This is the location of the film Prometheus, and is the site for the Engineers bio weapons research and development. Planet 16EG14 aka planet 4 is the planet that this film, Alien Covenant takes place after the ship is rerouted from its course to Origae-6, the colony planet they were heading to. This is also the planet that David drastically alters the ecosystem on when he releases the toxin above the Engineer city (also planet 4). Alien Resurrection takes place on a research vessel. Hope that clarifies the locations. Here is a helpful timeline for you as well including Predator franchise for full scope: 1719- Prey 1987- Predator 1997- Predator 2 2004- Alien V Predator 2005- Aliens V Predators Requiem 2010- Predators 2018- The Predator 2093- Prometheus 2104- Alien: Covenant 2122- Alien 2179- Aliens 2179- Alien 3 2381- Alien: Resurrection

My parents and I watched this and watched this on Blu Ray and we enjoyed it! Ridley Scott was going to direct the third film in the prequel series, ALIEN: ROMULUS, but stepped down as director as he was too busy working on the epic biographical war film NAPOLEON. Fede Alveraz, director of EVIL DEAD 2013 is helming the project and will be released this August.

As o commented before, the final part of this trilogy was canceled, the story was to continue with the engineers coming to find what David had done, it was not certain that these were the engineers he killed as they look a lot different from the engineers in Prometheus. Fans were not happy with the idea that David is supposed to to have created the alien. But in Prometheus you do see a sculpture Of the alien.

  • @applegeepedigree

I loved the idea that David created the alien. It is 100% canon that the original alien was biomechanical, and this give the explaination of how the mechanical side came ino the picture. My guess is that David would finally add a bit of himself into its final form, thus completed it.

  • @Nerdlabor

    @Nerdlabor

Originally, I believe this was also mentioned independently of Scott or other involved parties, the alien species that David wipes out in Covenant was supposed to be the Engineers species. But as you say, that didn't sit well with fans, and the fact that they messed up the design of the Engineers in that movie and made them noticeably different from the ones we met, certainly opens up the potential for integrating a retcon into a perhaps future concluding prequel trilogy part, so that they were just some other species created by the Engineers, like humans as well. Yes, in Prometheus we already see a sculpture that looks very similar to the Xenomorph we know. I think it's very likely to assume that the Engineers also conducted numerous experiments with the black goo. Just in the process of developing it, etc. And perhaps they also conducted experiments on themselves or on other alien species they created, like humans, in the more distant past. We know from Prometheus that they visited Earth occasionally in the past. And the black goo has led to developments that repeatedly have similarities in the design of the Facehugger or the Xenomorph. Therefore, it's not unlikely that the Engineers have already created creatures similar to the Xenomorph we know through experiments with the goo. The concept that the definitive Xenomorph, as we know it from Alien 1, was created by David or something like that, I actually like. It's like a circle closing at the end.

@@Nerdlabor to be fair - Engineers definitely moved around through many worlds, so this very much could have been their homeworld, where the traditionalists regressed to super basic style of living. The Engineer in the Prometheus is said to be almost immortal, likely a product of bio-engineering himself, created with a mission to start more life (or in his case to eradicate the Earthian life after humanity failed). The people on the planet destroyed before the Covenant, could have been much more mortal kind of Engineers. It's also important to mention - even if technology evolved, pretty much all travelling through space takes a lot of time - days, decades and centuries that impact history of every species, including humanity.

One of my favorite parts of the movie was the musical score. I really liked that “whoo-whoo” motif that they used. It sounds like either woodwind synths or some other industrial effect. It plays out almost all the time in some form or other. The Med Bey sequence being a good prime example. I also really like those electronic beats in the sounds too. Has a really sick bass tone that I never get sick of. Of course, it’s always nice hearing Jerry Goldsmith’s themes from the first film making a few appearances as well. Sounds just as triumphant and romantic as it did long ago. Really love the music of these films!

Can’t wait for Alien: Romulus! Heard it’s supposed to be set between the events of Alien 79’, and Aliens 86’, during the 57 years Lieutenant Ellen Ripley was asleep on the Nostromo’s emergency escape shuttle. It’ll be interesting to see how they go with it. The writer showed it to Ridley Scott, and Scott had nothing but high praise for it, said it sounded “F-ing incredible,” and he especially liked the dialogue. The writer said it had been his dream for a man of Scott’s talent, and caliber, to be that impressed with one of his works. So it should be good. Release date set (so far) August 16, 2024.

Little note: the Neomorph (white xeno) was suppose to encounter the new Protomorph (black xeno) during the escape to the evac ship. Unfortunately the method of puppetry (yes the aliens are practical props but edited in post like in Alien 3) limited the motions for a brawl and the scene was scrapped. However, this fight is included in the book copy. The scene plays out that one surviving Neomorph ambushes the team and the Protomorph catches up. These two aliens sense competition with the other and begin fighting each other, thus allowing the team to flee. While the Neomorph had faster attacks, the Protomorph was more robust, bigger, and stronger. It tanked all the attacks and killed the Neomorph with ease before resuming the pursuit.

Lots of differing opinions in the comment section, like you realized, some love this movie and some really dislike it. I fall in between lol. But really looking forward to your Predator and AVP reactions to see what you think of those. Keep them coming guys.

Once again, the viral marketing campaign & the prologue short that was released online were the shining stars in the release of Alien: Covenant. Whilst I don’t think it’s a bad film, I do find the actions of the crew questionable. It’s such a shame that the prequel trilogy has been left incomplete. For example, we can only assume that David is responsible for the derelict craft the crew of the Nostromo find in the original Alien film. Did he further engineer the xenomorph, giving it the biomechanical look we’ve become accustomed to? Who’s the engineer the crew of the Nostromo find? If David is responsible for the derelict on LV-426 how did he manage to create so many eggs; as we can only assume he created a Queen. The list of possible questions goes on & on. Fun Fact: The opera Das Rhinegold; which David listens to, possibly influenced LOTR. J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novels The Hobbit (1937) and The Lord of the Rings (1954) share elements with Der Ring des Nibelungen, but Tolkien himself denied that he had been inspired by Wagner's work, saying that "Both rings were round, and there the resemblance ceases." In spite of Tolkien's protestation, there are various similarities in addition to annularity: a ring of power which curses its bearer; a powerful wanderer in a large hat carrying a spear (Wotan) or staff (Gandalf the Grey); magical invisibility; the reforging of a powerful sword; a riddle contest; Sméagol's murder of his cousin Deagol for possession of the ring and Fafner's murder of his brother Fasolt for the same reason; the slaying of a powerful gold-hoarding dragon; to name but a few. Tolkien may have drawn, albeit partially, upon common source material, including the Völsunga saga and the Poetic Edda. The crucial element of the storyline, that the Ring is evil, and will work of itself to the undoing of its possessor, is common to both, as is the lust for world domination connected with its power, and that the Ring has been stolen (Wagner) or captured (Tolkien) from its rightful owner(s).

Great reaction to Covenant, technically David didn’t create the zenomorphs, he (and the engineers) only tampered with their DNA, there was a mural on the wall of the urn chamber in Prometheus that shows a deacon standing above what looks like an open egg with a face hugger inside, they existed long before, I still hope they make a sequel to covenant as it ended on the best cliffhanger.

You should really check out Alien Covenant: The Crossing. Meant to be watched before watching Alien: Covenant, there were a few two-minute prologue scenes that were released before Alien Covenant came out in theaters. Alien Covenant: The Crossing is the BRIDGE between Prometheus and Alien Covenant. It shows Elizabeth Shaw and David on the juggernaut spaceship. It leads up to how he was able to "catch" Elizabeth.

Ridley Scott did not create Alien. He directed it. It was written by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusset who also wrote Total Recall which was Directed by Paul Verhoven. Directors interpret the written page. They also can be considered co-producers. The creativity behind Alien is undeniable. Aliens was a logical continuation of Alien with James Cameron directing. Happy ending. FadeOut. They dragged their feet so long the actress who played Newt grew quite a bit. They decided to kill Newt and Hicks because since they were in cryo they couldn't explain away Newt's growth spurt and it would by cheaper. To 'the suits' Ripley was the Alien franchise. That's all they figured they needed. They were wrong. David Fischer was interfered with on every level and his vision was compromised. The man has since proved himself to be a great director Alien3 concludes the series for me...Ripley dies...end of story. Why they made Alien 4(resurrection) is beyond me. $$$ I guess. The main character wasn't Ripley. She's dead. Movie tanked... Now the money people reach out to Ridley Scott to revive the series. He was never the creator. I'm not taking away what he accomplished with the first Alien movie but he's really old now and creativity exhausted. He is still a great director by he needs a good script. The Martian was great. And that was almost 10 yrs ago. As someone who was a teenager when Alien came out and as of 2024 in 59 I just barely liked Prometheus, Covenant was more a throwback to 80s slasher movies. Romulus, who knows.... It's just not all about Ridley Others where involved...but now he is going it alone and it shows

Prometheus released in 2012 and takes place in (2089 and 2093) as for Covenant released in 2017 and takes place in (2104) which Alien released in 1979 but takes place in the year (2127) the Newer 2000's movies technology doesn't make any sense to the Prometheus (2089) technology that it completely destroys that movie itself just by show it, I guess Riley Scott though he could do the George Lucus Star Wars switch and that's why the movies are the worse of the franchise. At least Star Wars did show holograms in The Empire Strikes Back movie which made the Phantom of the Menace link up with tech, but Alien didn't do any of that. Aliens Ripley wakes up after being saved in the year (2184) which means Bishop would be a super Android and not a slow-moving dumb robot as he shows in movie plus the Technology on LV426 and everything else would have been so much more complex and better technology than what's in the movie, just some of the Reasons why this timeline doesn't work with trying to make movies about what happen before Alien nothing lines up or makes any sense, No Logic! given Weyland-Yutani Corporation would use and have the best newest technology. 👎👎💩

I love the cinematography and set design and David is genuinely such an interesting character..... but I just CANT see these movies, Covenant and Prometheus, as cannon. They just contradict way too much of the established lore, and in a sense genuinely ruin the "alien" aspect of the story. They make the universe feel so much smaller. Its a damn shame. And this is just personal preference, but design wise I think this is the worst looking Xenomorph. Easily. No biomechanical designs. No distinctive texturing. It feels like a generic b movie zombie thing with a big head.

Last week Noah Hawley, Alien Hulu show frontrunner (Fargo/Legion) said he's not following Prometheus and Covenant. He said "being born a half hour ago doesn't work for me". I assume he'll be using the "Aliens vs Predator" lore instead. Which is that they've existed for 1000's of years as animals Predators chase for sport on different planets/settings. James Cameron says his third favorite film in the franchise is "Aliens vs Predator". For me it's a tie between AVP, or Covenant or Resurrection as third best. I think Romulus or the Hulu show may take best third spot soon.

No matter what you might think of Prometheus and Covenant, you have to admit that Fassbender is fantastic as the good android Walter and the psycho android David. I was so involved in this saga, which we can call the David saga, i wanted to see that POS android ripped apart by his own creation. Its too bad that we will never see that movie. Personally, i love both movies. Theyre not great or groundbreaking like Alien and Aliens. But i certainly got involved in the story and characters.

I searched if this one was nominated for any Oscars bc I think the costumes, sound design, practical effects all were so high quality - it won for most anticipated (Indiewire critics poll) and biggest disappointment (golden schmoes awards) lol It is perfect in it's imperfections just like humanity. The visuals alone are modern renaissance art and this series is the epitome of body horror x sci-fi & I can't really think of any other on this same level. The pacing, the tech, each set piece fight, the creatures! - maybe I'm just delusional for liking it so much idk 😂 to me Alien, Prometheus & Covenant are all bangers 🤷‍♂️ (I have seen Aliens and think that's more action/adventure tbh, never seen the others but I might, then I'll watch your commentaries to those ones) For some reason how disturbing this movie is coupled with the ideas/themes presented make it so intriguing with every rewatch. The scope yet specificity of the musings on religion, birth, life, purpose, torment and the posing of "why" is so genius to do through the horror lens of flawed group of people suffer one by one. David is a top tier villain! An icon! Kissing his brother... well he's flawed for sure. The dissection of Shaw is so fascinating, thematically, in terms of the series and even just in terms of a broader social communitary, a woman used for creation against her will is just such a horrific concept. And I feel like across Alien, Prometheus & Covenant it's equal opportunity torment regardless of gender - while most horror and sci-fi films fall into boring tropes that drag down the plot and make for insufferable movies. Like the vibe I get from Ridley Scott is he dgaf really and just loves making movies. I think I respect everything I've seen from him 🤔 "David is not a good guy" Cojo "David is a freak" Igli "He's becoming my favourite character" Corey... sums up the entertaining dynamic here pretty much 😂 I really enjoyed rewatching this along with you all ❤️

I personally disliked Prometheus when it was released. I felt it was too far away from the xenomorphs that we knew and didn't appreciate the direction. That was until covenant was released. After I watched covenant for the first time it made me go back to watch prometheus immediately. It made me fall in love with direction that was taken when some of the dots were joined together. Aliens is hands down still my favourite but between alien, prometheus and covenant it's hard to put a second place. Keep in mind the lore in predator and avp (franchise) does not add up now prometheus and covenant explains the xenomorph origin story. I'm not going to explain how and why so you don't get spoilers but you'll see by the timeline of events if/when you get to watch them.

Btw you are right David is the best character out of these 2 movies. When you create such deep character outta a fkin robot you know you've done something exceptional. But he isn't wrong he just hates all life who seeks to destroy. There is no other moral that drives him. That's why the genocide that's why killing humans. Plus he started loving the xenomorphs as his kids or something.

David saying "That's the spirit" towards the middle/end is a clue that the Alien Franchise is in the same universe as Blade Runner. The villain A.I. in Blade Runner also says "That's the spirit" and if you look at Edward James Olmo's spaceship, it says Weyland Yutani on it. The same brand/company that makes the Alien ships. And Ridley Scott confirmed in an interview they are in the same universe. Blade Runner represents what's going on on Earth (Aliens don't exist, but A.I. do narrative just like our narrative). Alien represents what's going on in space. However, the new Hulu show is based on Earth and before these events. Which I speculate, the governments/leaders of Earth know Aliens are real, but don't disclose to the public, thus they still think Alien existence is a joke. So, the show will be Weyland Yutani employees figuring out the truth. Maybe even see the employees who knew aliens were on LV planets and wrote the "Crew Expendable" message in Alien (one). It'd be pleasing if they ended the show with someone writing that message. Connecting the show to the movie.
