    One thing I hadn't noticed after the first watch, was that Mother, the ship's computer - never responded kindly to its crew and in some instances (Tennessee dialogue requesting to go near the storm) even outright ignored orders from the crew. At the end of the movie when Mother responds to David after asking her to play Wagner - she says "Yes, David. As you wish." It is the only time in the movie Mother responds this way. Perhaps it's some sort of machine to machine connection or understanding.

    Now that you mention it, that's a super cool observation. Too bad it was wasted. The franchise needs to move past synthetics/robots/androids though. 2001 mastered that concept on its first try, even after all these films - Alien barely scratched the surface.

    David didn't help them at the end. He was studying the alien to see how well it performed in a live combat situation. Closing doors and forcing the alien to adapt. What appeared to be a sigh of relief at the end when the alien dies is actually David's show of disappointment towards his "perfect organism" being killed by humans, and realizing he needs to do more "testing".

    Shaw was the original alien queen. Her eggs were mutated by David using the black goo into the facehugger eggs. The facehuggers were essentially "sperm" that carried alien eggs that "fertilized" their hosts with an alien that developed inside their bodies. That means Elizabeth Shaw started the xenomorphs and her DNA would be present inside all future xenomorphs as there had to be some mechanism that made facehuggers produce queen eggs, which then produced more eggs. Those future alien queens would have Shaw's DNA, too.

  • @X2yt

    @X2yt

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm quite sure that's not true. It's implied David was creator of the species due to his meddling with black goo, but Engineers had images of both Queen and regular Xenomorph on the walls of their ship on LV-223 before Prometheus ever got there. David could be the creator of human-derived xenomorphs, but considering Engineers created black goo as sort of bio weapon, it's entirely possible they in fact used that weapon on some other species, and have in fact seen xenomorphs that those species produced. It's actually pretty likely that the entire purpose of black goo was to create a xenomorph population that would eradicate life on a planet, then die out, preparing worlds for Engineer colonisation and experimentation, and every species infected by goo would produce their own unique kind of xeno, but the end-point of goo would always be some form of xenomorph. At its base, xenomorph is simply a black goo creature that combined with some extra genetic material from some other living organism. So pretty much all xenomorphs are the same at the very base, and all their different mutations are simply effects of that extra genetic material from different species combined with bare blueprint provided by goo.

    The tiny little aliens came from Shaw, basically when her squid baby split out of its sack it spilled fluids all up in her and she slowly got sick, David thinks she may be infected and freezes her he then realizes that there's no way the engineers will help her or even allow them to live so he kills them, then tries to heal shaw but her xeno cancer has spread too far, so he tries to mutate her to heal her but that only killed her faster, David then looses his shit because now he's killed the only person he has ever truly loved, he couldn't heal her after she healed him, he realizes through his delusion that this is because humans are weak, they aren't built to last like an android, he then begins to study the cancerous little Xenos that killed Shaw and how they were able to thrive despite being actively attacked and killed, since shaws body is the only organic matter left on the planet he wishes to use her body to create a perfect organism, one that won't die on him, and who better to give him this gift, to make him Prometheus, but Shaw? He does love her that's why he made her a garden, but her body is only flesh, so he may start on her organs, eventually moving to the reproductive system where he would make the eggs. So when he was asked if he killed her he laments that he did, because to him failing to save her was killing her, but in order to create one must destroy, he loves his xenos not only because they are his children but because they are also shaws children, so shooting a Xeno to him would be like shooting his child with Shaw or even Shaw herself.

    This movie is a prime example of what happens when a director gives into his fans demands, despite his fans not truly understanding the directors intentions with the movie’s lore yet. Ridley mapped out a great story about creation and the engineers, that would’ve most likely provided very philosophical and dark reasonings behind not only humanity, but the xenomoprhs as well. But he scrapped all that at the response of Prometheus, and gave the fans what they wanted: more Alien gore. What a wasted opportunity for something that could’ve been amazing.

    I am not sure that most fans wanted more alien gore. I think most shared the Saw's character's need to know, and were far more curious with who the Engineers were, and how they were related to mankind's creation. I think that most fans, especially those who were fascinated by the film's religious implications, felt themselves cheated when they realized that the Shaw Character would not be included, and that a host of other characters, who had not experienced her ordeal nor her ambitions,, were suddenly introduced. Also that instead of getting to the answer as Shaw had hoped, they were introduced to these disgusting mindlessly violent critters rampaging about again.

    David kept the crew alive because he needs living host for the alien embryos and other experiments. The illustrations and detailed blueprints makes me feel it's implied in the movie. And I ended up extremely disappointed. On the second viewing I knew more what to expect obviously, and I took it for what it was. A simple Aliens film. Sure it didn't have the groundbreaking lore I wanted it to have, but I did enjoy it much more the 2nd time around after knowing what to expect. I also appreciated the intricate differences between Walter and David, and Fassbenders incredible acting.

    Anyone else bothered by the fact that they didn't wear any head gear going onto the new planet? I get that they have crazy technology to see if it's safe to walk around in, but just for the mere fact that you could step on something and activate an airborne virus is hard to detect from the ship (wtf do i know tho?)...? This was an entertaining film, but it didn't really have much substance, imo.

  • @Ensign_Cthulhu

    @Ensign_Cthulhu

    In the novelisation, David tells them _why_ their biohazard scan failed, and this IMO mitigates their failure in this regard. Their failure to find the ruined city and the associated crashed ships is another matter; there's a plot-hole you could fly the _Covenant_ herself through.

  • @HateshWarkio

    @HateshWarkio

    7 жыл бұрын

    The most odd thing is that they just landed on a planet with zero or almost zero living organisms/animals. Scans should be able to catch that at least. Like if it is a planet suitable for the life on the same scale as the Earth with a person known to be there then there should be life. At least several billions of species. Yet it is empty as fuck except for flora. There should be a scene where they land their ship and go outside in protective gear to make some scans and test and then go outside without any protective gear.

  • @Ensign_Cthulhu

    @Ensign_Cthulhu

    7 жыл бұрын

    It depends on what your scans are calibrated to pick up. If they are calibrated for biohazards, this generally only means "Are there harmful or lethal micro-organisms here?", which to an investigative team doing a quick look around for a "distress signal" is all they need to know before deciding on spacesuits vs. what they actually wore. If you are doing a complete survey for all life, that's quite another matter. The computers are just computers - if you ask them an incomplete question, they will give you an incomplete answer. Clearly if they had managed to get back to orbit without disturbing or becoming infected with anything, a heated argument would then have ensued regarding the planet's suitability for settlement, but I suspect we would have had Oram on the "It's empty, it's perfect, let's set down" side and Daniels on the "Fuck, no; not without a comprehensive radar map of the entire surface" side. That would have revealed the dead city, crashed ships, possibly even corpses etc. (depending on how good their instruments were), and that's the point at which they ideally report their find and then hightail it the fuck out of there to their original destination. If you ask me, they ought to have waited for the storms to clear and done a decent surface mapping before they even sent the lander down, but I'm not the scriptwriter so what do I know?

  • @Ensign_Cthulhu

    @Ensign_Cthulhu

    7 жыл бұрын

    The first reason to land is Shaw's signal - arguably justified. The second is to have a general look-around and assess as a potential diversion for colonisation. They have a damaged ship and a dead captain, and Oram is probably desperate to get his 2000 colonists on the ground and rid himself of a responsibility he never really wanted rather than have to spend an extended period in space with multiple further jumps and risk the same thing happening again. Such is his reasoning and perhaps it is justifiable, but his approach is rushed and lackadaisical - I would not have sent anyone down without spending at least a week in orbit doing a full ground survey - and if weather prevented that, the best option would have been to leave.

    Do we really know how powerful their scans are? I mean, the Alien franchise always had this low-tech sci-fi aesthetic to it (Not so much in the newest movies) I mean, in the originals, everything was green CRT monitors and stuff, it's an awesome aesthetic that I absoloutely love. But I mean, how can you really scan for 'harmfull micro organisms' you can't. Don't even know how you could ever scan for lifeforms either, closest thing I can think of is infra-red, and that's not exactly a foolproof plan. Also, realistically, the chance of anything on another planet being able to interact with humans on any level is insanely low. I mean, it takes millions of interactions between man and animal for us to get diseases (Where most plagues came from, and why they only came from Large cities in Europe) So from a different planet? NO chance. Though of course, we know that the Engineers had a hand in the game, but I don't even think that humans have encountered ANY aliens at that point in the movies. It's a bit since I saw the movie, and my memory isn't the worst, I don't remember all the flavour text dialogue. But Yeah. You can't really 'scan' things so easily. Especially with interference. Storms, you don't know how the magnetic field there works etc. I will agree they could have taken more care though. They also should have been a lot more on edge about any potential harms, like when someone starts seeming sick, your first instinct should be "Space malaria, quarantine now!"

    I feel like most people focused on David and his nuances that don’t quite match up but most importantly is that David has a way of working with the Aliens and clearly shows that David has a deeper connection with the developing alien embryos. David’s strange mess of emotional confusion causes him to create a more agressieve and primal form of life while with a form of emotional connection (aka Daniels) makes a large difference in how he works on his “perfect organism” leading to the creation of a more malicious and intent creation that while he plans to make a perfect creation there is a mix of emotion and human person to make the very malevolent and stalking alien that was seen in the original movie

    The merging happened in 2099. Prometheus is in 2093. Covenant is 2105, Alien is 2122, Aliens is 2179. These are the only canon movies we have as of now. Weyland Corp didn't search for Weyland because he went into cryosleep in secret. Everyone thought he was dead, very few knew of the truth. The Prometheus was a scientific expedition funded by a man thought to be dead. Why bother looking for it. The covenant was a colony mission 9 years away from earth, and that's with the Yutani Company faster than light speed hyperdrive. So, looking for them they couldn't afford. Face it, being the first wide spread colony mission, the covenant was a gamble. The company just wants to make money, capture the Xenomorph and the black goo for weapons, and make sure that human colony's will continue the human race so there are places to go if the company screws earth over.

    I dont think David knows what hes doing. Much like the Engineers, hes creating life but will soon regret it. It's even foreshadowed too. The neomorphs bow down too David, however, the Protomorph, sees David on the computer screen near the end of the movie and attacks him regardless. Davids reaction even shows that he is shocked that his baby did that. The 1 human emotion he does not understand is doubt. The creature he just created is much more animalistic in thought. It does not care about its maker and is only a hunter (Much like the Xenos.) So what I think will happen is, David Creates more Protomorph's, only for him to loose control as he does not understand why they don't bow down to him (Maybe he thought he could teach them) and this leads to more procreation between them eventually leading to the birth of a queen Xeno (The only thing Xenos and probably Protos listen too) making David Jealous and wanting to destroy his creation (Again, just like the engineers and humans)

    I've enjoyed both Prometheus and Covenant, but I have to say, the idea that the xenomorph is an artificial creation seems antithetical to what I always took away from the original Alien film. As I understood it, the point of that movie was that the alien is an example of the horrifying things space might be capable of producing; humans having become the apex species on Earth after numerous extinction events, our intelligence, culture, and morality is probably pretty rare. Most dominant species *would* be more like the xeno, not the Engineers or most other sci-fi races.

    Fallout Junkie Yes, it is a disappointing and unsatisfying revelation. But we live in an age in which people don't like mystery, and are happy to "fill the gaps" with invisible sky wizards (or alien master races) and intelligent design... rather than accept the (perhaps more mundane) explanation provided by evolutionary biology. But evolutionary biology is complicated, and too difficult for the illiterati to understand, as demonstrated by their frequently misrepresentation of what "evolution" means. See the very first scene in Covenant for a classic example.

    Fantastic video, I'm super happy to have stumbled on your channel. In my opinion the Black Goo deconstructs the Engineers down to a cellular level. This is how they are able to seed planets with life. So I believe David just straight up dropped goo on them, and dropped it into their water supply. In my opinion, the Engineers are most likely a fungal organism, and drinking the goo, or otherwise coming in contact with the goo causes a reaction into another animorph. (Spores/molds/mushrooms). The Engineers are like mushrooms and the Goo is like mold. I believe they are genetically connected. And when these two organic organism contact each other, they react and mutate, causing a spore-like state.

    I heard a theory that believed David might have implanted his personality into Walter's body, essentially taking him over. This could explain how David was able to impersonate Walter so quickly in Covenant, as well as how he gained access to Walter's security codes for the ship.

    I agree. It would also help David to "Self repair" thus avoiding his body being damaged like in Prometheus and needing someone to repair him. He could technically live forever

    I would like to believe that cause that sounds awesome if David did do that but one thing... In the movie where “Walter”/David was putting stables in himself to close his wounds that weren’t even that big when they could health up easily since they were small anyways why would he need to do that when Walter could repair himself, and if you look at his hand, it looks cut off not burnt, because Walters hand was burnt when he punched that alien in the face and the acid destroyed his hand making it look burnt, instead at the end it looks like it was a clean cut not all messy looking, so it was David all along and Walters actually on the planet still which sucks. David probably killed Walter but before completely killing Walter, David took Walters chip and that’s how he got the codes... But that doesn’t explain how he didn’t know about the cabin, if he took the chip then wouldn’t he get all stuff about the cabin? And wouldn’t he get updated to the version Walter was at?? Like become less human and then he could have the healing or repair ability? Not sure on how to answer those....

    Best Explanation of the last 2 Alien movies by far!!! Others have done good job but this is far above the rest. It would be hard for the actual writers themselves to explain better than this.

    Most likely what happens is that David deleted Walter's personality programming and uploaded his own into Walter's body. That explains the ability to heal, he switched bodies. Now in Walter's body, he has access to his knowledge and security codes and updated data on everything he's missed out on by being stuck on the planet. He upgraded himself without having to downgrade his original personality programming.

    I think that he was David all along he just cut his hand to look like him, Walter can heal himself even from mortal injuries but he didn't heal at all that small damage on his face.
