Probably the most ‘wordy’ film I’ve seen in a long time. Loads of script covering thin plot line but credit to the actors for almost remembering all of it! Love how she killed an alien by spraying it with bug off or something similar in a squeeze bottle!

The musical version from 1978 by Jeff Wayne has much less dialogue. Although, the radio version from 1938 was a classic. All from a book written in 1898. So everyone knows how it was going to end.

It's funny how the characters in a life-or-death situation where seconds count, always have time to pause and chat about mundane stuff like, "How's your leg?" I also notice how so many newer movies have characters who immediately toss away firearms like they're radioactive.

It would be hard to make a movie like this and not have some similarities to War of the World's. For this format I found this enjoyable. It goes to show that the human spirit is not easily defeated. We may be weak separately but together we are strong. It also showed that advanced technology can be defeated.

Is it really that "hard"? The most famous of the June 2005 "War of the Worlds" adaptations (you know, the one starring Tom Cruise and Miranda Otto, and some guy, I think it was Dan Hamburger, directing) was very different from both the legendary 1938 Orson Welles radio play and the 1953 movie. The other two June 2005 versions, from the legendary "mockbuster" studios Asylum Films (and released on DVD literally the day before the David Cheeseburger version hit the theaters) and the Pendragon Studios version released a week earlier, were very different. This one has so many plot similarities to the Stephen Cronenberg version version that it's like a shot by shot, unless the shot would have cost substantial money, of course. Still, having a different plot doesn't really guarantee the movie will be anything special. The Pendragon version could have been something, and mainly because it was so different from either the Asylum or Greta Thunberg versions of the movie. "H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds" (note the extra "the" that distinguishes it from the Asylum version) was a period piece, set in the 1890s, and directed by Timothy Hines, who really, truly loved the story. Despite this love of the source material, Timothy Hines managed to make what is inarguably the worse version, ever. Seven year later, Hines got someone to give him another chance, and he released "War of the Worlds: The True Story". Not many directors get to bomb twice with the same story. Some people call Hines "The Ed Wood of the 21st Century," although that was mainly based on what a mess he made of "A Midsummer's Night's Dream" back in 1999. The actors, such as they were, who played the starring roles of Puck, Titania, and Hyppolita had never acted before or since, and the one who played Oberon (a juicy part) had a handful of credits like "cook", "valet", or "second guy on the left". This was another Pendragon mockbuster, trying to cash in on the "other" 1998 version, the one with Kevin Cline, Michelle Michelle Pffeiffffer, Stanley Tucci, Calista Flockhart, Christian Bale, Dominic West, David Strathairn, Sophie Marceau, etc. (The closest thing "the good version" has to an "unknown actor" in a major role is Anna Friel, who only has 76 film credits). No, I'm going to stick with the premise that "Alien Conquest" was simply a bad version. Oh, and it's not helped by DVD cover art that doesn't depict anything even remotely like the movie.

@@josephwisniewski3673 I am saddened that you feel the 2005 version of War of the Worlds is the best one, but you are entitled to your opinion. The best versions are the ones that inspire, which would be the case for the earlier version and not the overhyped CGI crap made in more modern movies.

They just line up stereotypes we have all seen in other movies before. They even stole the story from War of the Worlds, just moving it to US suburbia. If you are totally bored, watch it and see what you think.

You missed on how her cut on the forehead changed size in each new scene. Another thing was how the EMP wiped out crude circuitry like light switches even when the circuit is open but didn't effect computers or electronic ignitions in vehicles. In fact of matter an EMP works exactly the opposite. It's one of the reasons that for years military vehicles with gasoline powered engines still used points for ignition even though electronic ignitions were available for years. This whole movie is nothing more than a cheap version of the original movie "War between the worlds". The idea of multiple threes, three legs, three eyes, three fingers, when it came to the Martians and their lack of an immune system to protect them from the simplest of organisms is a direct concept taken straight from the book and the preceding movies.

In constraint “War of The Worlds” (1951) is different from “Alien Conquest “ (2011) in notice. Only H.G. Well was the famous American Sci-Fiction writer about his best novels--“ The Time Machine” and “ War of The Worlds”. When I was young at my age, I read several books written by H.G. Well then I saw the TV movies during late 1950’s and early 1969’s.

H.G Wells was born in Kent in England and was not an American writer. I believe England dropped the first atomic bomb on Japanese and ended the Second World War , maybe I may have to do more study on the subject. How ever there was an Orson Welles that wrote a modernised version of War Of The Worlds as a radio play back in the late 1930s . He did a lot of excellent works for the Mercury Theatre from the mid 1930s and one of his plays was done as a News Report that caused a panic as people actually believed it was true . That play was called The War Of The Worlds.

You may be confusing "Orson Welles", the brilliant American writer, director, and actor who directed and narrated the 1938 radio play version of "War of the Worlds" with the brilliant English writer Herbert George "H. G." Wells, who wrote the 1897 novel "The War of the Worlds" that served as the basis for Orson Welles' broadcast, as wells as some fifteen movie and television adaptations.

Never cared for the Tom Cruise version but loved the 1950's version. The tech babel is okay, just as long as you have no idea what they just said. They needed a real military advisor to make sure some of the military scenes made sense. Uniforms, are okay I guess, but there is more to the US military besides uniforms.
