Even though it is repeated again and again throughout the comments here, people really need to understand just how special this LIVE performance was. Not only that, the quality overall from the video to the audio recording is likely one of the best captures I have ever seen. With AIC firing on all pistons as well, I don't think I have ever seen another band deliver such a top shelf performance. I honestly believe this concert should be remastered and repackaged and re-released. Not only that, the engineers and recording technicians should be given special honors and recognition for giving us such an awesome time capsule. "Love HATE Love" should be playing on loop, pressed on to a Golden satellite and hurled through far reaches of space as well as having it spinning in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Bruce Springsteen may have been the boss and Elvis may have been the King. BUT, Alice in Chains were GODS!!!

Laynes singing made me look up several times, to see if I was watching lip synching because it was better than the studio version IMO. After it was over, I had to sit and watch it all. I couldn’t believe what i was watching and listening to…. The whole band was great that night but Layne was legendary. I got chills at all the same times mentioned by others in comments below. I’ve probably watched Man in the Box at the 4:40 mark dozens of times. Also the end of Love, Hate, Love and the end of Bleed the Freak were spine tingling. Chris Cornell's range is C#2-G6, Layne Staley's range is G1-D7, he did those notes live too, he hit D7 when he killed himself, Chris Cornell's range is literally contained in Layne's range. However, Cornell only reaches 4 octaves in one song: Singing professionals have said that Cornell never used his full chest and head singing strength, because if he did, he could perhaps hit more notes, being a baritone he had a lot of technique to go up and down the pitch, without sounding like a little girl. Besides, on Soundgarden's B-side records, Cornell had VOLUME, EXTENSION, DEPTH AND REACH so much after so many years he admits he couldn't reach all the octaves, due to aging and lifestyle, but he was the GREATEST singer of the 90s. Layne might be close, Cornell was IMBATIBLE.

I’ve listened to this set countless times and still get chills. He didnt ‘just sing’ - it’s like he put every ounce of talent he had into each word. Bluesy, check. Old school croon & swoon, check. Range, yep-got that in spades.. Grit& growl, fucking checkmate. ‘Man in the Box’-it’s such a hard hitting song…esp the studio version. But if you listen closely, he starts out with a little soft swagger and builds…then pulls out this anger from deep in the gut….and you are right there gritting your teeth - feeling it. He was a genius. Love Hate Love…hands down my fav performance from any person/band, ever.

Sick and tired of debating over who was the better singer - Stayley or Cornell. Always gonna be subjective. But there's an undeniable fact - Cornell could sing at least an octave higher (I reckon 1.5 above) than Staley and beat him on the lower register as well. It's what made Cornell a stand-out. That being said, both great singers

Music wise they're Johnny Come Lately if he comes at all. NME was always a much more influential music publication. They'd put people on their covers no one had heard of yet. RS would put people on their cover after they'd done their best work.

Literally the best singer of the past 3 decades. No one today even comes close.
This is basically one of the greatest live concerts captured on film and the quintessential Layne Staley performance. Its just nuts.
Layne is the baddest mfr to ever sing into that microphone, by far best live performance ever better than any cd

Did you know that they once worked together in a studio and recorded a song for Alice In Chains called Right Turn, on that same track Cornell demonstrates his vocal ability and versatility that surpasses Layne's talent (which was no small feat either.) @@vitorkaique5782 (soz for replying to a 4 month old comment but) I dont think you could really say that Layne was better than Chris, mainly because while Cornell had the larger range, layne had a wider depth of tone and waaaaay more distortion on those midrange 4th octave ish notes than Cornell ever did unless he was screaming his throat out Kurt Cobain style
To Jerry Cantrell... Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. For one, very brief moment in my youth, you showed me the greatest rock band that has EVER existed. I saw Layne in a three piece suit at the start of their set on Lollapolooza in 93 and it was like 95 degrees that day! Needless to say he took the jacket tie vest and shirt off after playing Would the first song to start the show! Very charismatic singer and great stage presence!
