    When I started learning chess, I forced myself to learn how to checkmate with two bishops. It's one of the most elegant checkmates. I was following her every step of the way! You basically lure the king into one of two edges and then "zigzag" the two bishops to bring the king to the corner. Very useful checkmate!

    My method usually involves centralizing the two bishops & king In the center of the board & then slowly pushing the king back to one of the edges. After that same thing - force the king into a corner & DON’T STALEMATE 😂

  • @MrSpeedyAce

    @MrSpeedyAce

    @@kevinvi7 That’s exactly right! I prefer the right corner. It’s all about understanding the space they cover infront of a pair, and diagonally (a literal wall that channels the king to the corner). The final step is beautiful, “king swaps position with bishop”, followed by check and then checkmate.

    It's interesting, there's a seemingly small set of activities that kids can quickly master. A lot of the skill in chess, up to a certain level, is excellent memory, excellent visualization skills, and rapid calculation, that's something talented young children can do. They don't need to memorize endless opening lines, though that helps, if they can simply see the right move based on a sufficient number of games, "intuition" and incomprehensible ( to me) calculating speed. I would also assume young children could be excellent computer programmers, and some probably are ( I taught myself programming when I was 13 or so, with nary an adult to assist, by reading books and trying stuff...but I am a very weak chess player in spite of probably having played over 1000 games.)

    Good job, Alice. Poor little dude was trying hard not to cry, but he played very well, wild that he survived that long with just a King. Also, huge ELO difference, she's closer to a WFM rating (2100) than he is to her rating.
