I think either guy could have KO'd the other. Ali outsmarted George. George used that knowledge to outsmart Moorer 20 years later. I love Ali and George. George and Ali became good friends since the late 70's after George retired the first time. If you watch Ali in some interviews circa1978, he speaks highly of George as a fighter. Things are different when you're not competitive.

Yes and no. He did defeat Foreman but not in the manner he said he would. Ali said he would dance and evade Foreman, but when he quickly disccovered(in the first minute of the fight) how good Foreman’s footwork was, he improvised and went to the rope-a-dope. That defines “ring generalship.”

Well he didn't either. He must have forgotten that he was working in Foreman's corner that night too, that's him wearing all light blue.

Agreed. That was Bob (the Colonel) Sheridan. Not only did he talk too much, he screwed up the count and reached only 8 when Foreman was counted out. That led many to think Foreman had been jobbed by a quick count, but a review of the tape showed he was down for just over 10 seconds. Funny thing about that knockdown-Foreman’s head never hit the canvas.
