Movies are the closest thing we have to time machines. Ryan is an 82 year old man who recently passed, but he still exists as a college kid in love, and will be for hundreds of years into the future.

I was a rug rat when this was released. But, I remember being in a showing of Titanic. At the end of the movie there was a young teen girl behind me just gasping and sobbing. I turned to my future husband and asked if he thaight she was going be ok. I felt so bad for her. My Husband told not worry because a least some one was getting their money’s worth. 😁

Me too...was 14, and my friends and I, after eagerly anticipating the release of the movie after "devouring" the paperback novel, sat in the movie theater next to grown men, as we all sobbed at its conclusion. We then ran off to buy the soundtrack album, which I still own today. Sad that by today's "climate" and standards, the movie seems trite, dated and quite boring. But, back then, much like "The Exorcist" a few years later, it was a phenomenon like no one had seen before. The perfect recipe for young teen girls and their hormone-driven, romantantic-fantasy-driven psyches. And Ali McGraw was the epitome of hippie beautiful cool to all of us back then, as we all tried to copy her look, with most of us failing miserably. So happy that these two actors have remained so close over the years and hold such fondness for each other, as they will always be remembered as one of movie history's most famous, romantic partners. .

plein aire, Ryan O'Neal actually made fun of that line at the very end of "What's Up Doc," a hilarious Peter Bogdanovich film he made with Barbara Streisand two years after "Love Story" (probably the only Streisand film I enjoy watching). In the final scene, while he is sitting in his seat on a passenger jet, thinking he had lost Barbara Streisand's character, O'Neal's character suddenly overhears her talking to someone else in the row behind him. He shifts his seat into the down position to talk to her (how he did that was funny) and says, "Do you know that I happen to love you?", and she says the line from Love Story and bats her eyes at him. He looks at her and says "That's the dumbest thing I ever heard." I'm sure that scene got tremendous laughs from the audiences when "What's Up Doc" was originally shown in the theaters. It certainly made me laugh. The whole film was funny with excellent slapstick.

I'm 38 and I remember my parents watching Love Story so many times over the years since I can remember..this movie and music is so carved into my subconscious that it feels like my past life. Without a doubt a masterpiece that shows what human beings are capable of. Sadly my generation had experienced maybe just few glimpses of that magic, and younger generations none of it. I am so envy on all of you born at that time, you were truly blessed, if you didn't know it then, you surely know it by now. ...and about: ''love means never having to say you're sorry''.. it means that if you really love someone, there will never be such occasion in which such words will need to be spoken.. in reality, impossible, as an idea, divine and perfect

Love Story was a very simple, sad tale that's as old as time. It's why so many people relate to it and why it holds up, to this day. I still have the sheet music that my piano teacher gave me when I begged to be able to learn it. I was so determined, I managed it, even though it was quite above my level, and I would cry while I played it. Ah, so long ago ! I hated Junior High, but that is one good memory.

I knew it was a hit but I didn't know it was such a big hit and would have made the equivalent of $1 billion dollars today. But I do remember the theater was full. I don't remember crying at the end because as this story showed he says she dies but I don't remember much about this movie except her calling him preppy and that famous line. I thought about that line and I came to the conclusion that it meant you never had to say you were sorry because you loved someone so much that you never hurt them and would never have to say sorry for it..
