What a privilege to have some rare insights into this great music. My father who is still living founded Oroki Social Club with a few friends. I was in primary 4 when Baba n Gani came to play for Oroki Social Club's annual dance at Osogbo Recreation Club ground for the very first time. You can't imagine the scene in the town that night. A precious memory I treasure till date is the sight of Baba and his band members in my father's sitting room being hosted to a dinner before heading to the annual dance. The police had to be involved in crowd control. Fun fact: Members of Oroki Social Club were not exactly rich. My father and his friend, Treasurer and Secretary of Oroki Social Club rode on a motor cycle from Osogbo to Ijebu Igbo and back to book Haruna Isola for the annual dance

I grew up in Mushin Lagos listening to this music. This is my favourite track plus many more. The beats, voice, and the way he dances. I was listening to Terry Apala - jangolava in my car one time (the only song of his i like) and my mum happened to be in the car and she said he (Terry) is singing like Apala. Never heard of Apala before so I did some research and here I am. So these are some of the oldies that eventually led to what we now call Afropop, beats etc. very interesting - such a distinguished sound

Memories of Childhood still lingers...

This song reminds of my growing up in my father's sitting room in the late 80s. I can still recollect how my father, an officer then in the police used to dance to the tune of Haruna Ishola with his Guiness beer. Daddy thanks for bringing us up in this great and enviable Yoruba culture.

I am happy that you love this music like I do. My uncle, Alhaji Arasi Suberu invited Haruna Ishola to grace his palatial home in Ring Road Ibadan in the 70s. It was a riot of colors seeing my mum and her jaiye jaiye friends in organza, chiffon, wonyosi and nice Italian shoes dazzling high society with their dance steps. Eggovin, Campari etc and luscious foods lol. Night to remember. God rest the souls of my uncle and mom.

This was my favourite Apala music in my youth. This is great bringing me down good memories.

Truly legendary! My dad sings his songs especially this “Oroki social club”.....🎶 “Eni ri won ni lati mon yungbayungba londun fun won lojo gbogbo oo eee” .🎵 It’s as refreshing as it’s philosophical!

What a heritage we have as Nigerians, thank recording medium for preserving these and such. I remeber the Palmwine tapper delivering to our home in Surulere then for Oldman and his friends amidst voices like this huming out of the SANYO turntable.

Ever green in our memory

Reminds me of walking down Isale eko market, Lagos thoroughly sweating in the hot 3 pm sun with music blaring out loud and the old famed Oshinowo buses (for those old enough to know) adding to the cacophony. Then it did not mean much but several decades now it brings nostalgia many miles across the ocean away from the homeland. I like the background choruses.

You are right, when i was young in the early '70s there was a woman in my grandmother's house in Ondo state, she's from Oshogbo, whenever she hear Haruna music on radio western region "Orita Bashorun" Ibadan in those days, especially this track INA RAN OKU OMO TI YIO TOWO BEERU, she will leave whatever she's doing at hand and take to dance. Now that am in her age then begins to enjoy the same music like her because of the quality of Baba ngani agba music. An icon has left us.
