    Thank you for this great video. I understand most of proof now, but I'm still stuck on proof where u have numbers to a large power. Questions like prove 2^64 - 1 is not prime. How can I go about solving such problems and do I even need to know them for the GCSE spec?

  • @TheGCSEMathsTutor

    @TheGCSEMathsTutor

    4 жыл бұрын

    That is a very unique question, basically you have to complete the square and then it forms a difference of two squares, so 2^64-1=(2^32)^2-1^2=(2^32+1)(2^32-1) then you can see that it is two numbers multiplied together and hence can not be prime. I would say this is an unlikely GCSE question but then I certainly wouldn’t rule it out! Algebraic proof always comes down to factorising, this is just a particularly difficult one to spot how to do!

    Ohimaio20 If you multiply any number by 2 it will always be even, give it a go, pick any number and multiply it by 2 and you will find it is always even (2n), likewise, if you add 1 to any of those you will find that they will always be odd, hence the (2n+1) - Hope this helps!

  • @eljask

    @eljask

    3 жыл бұрын

    Idk if this example helps but let's test it. Let's take an even number like 6. It can also be expressed as 6=2*3 and 12=2*6. So lets take any number and multiply it by 2 it will always give you an even number. Therefore 2n is factual where n is the any number Then lets take an odd number 7. It can be expressed as 7=2*3+1 so it is 2n+1 where n=3. And also n can be any number possible.

    Aaryan Ramani That entirely depends on your comfortability working with negatives, I would say it’s the same difficulty but some students may find it more difficult as you have the be more aware of using negative numbers. Although any student accessing algebraic proof I would argue should be pretty confident with their negative numbers! 😁👍🏼

    Hi, when factorising, numbers can only be divided by whole numbers. Can't factories using a fraction or decimal.

    At the time of watching this video the likes are at 969, I think this is a really unique number so i will leave it like that Btw, this video was great, You could improve you're video's by splitting the video into 2 sections 1 for teaching what to do the other practice questions so you're video doesn't look to long that's one of the reasons why i sometimes don't watch your video because its sometimes too long
