    I needed to study math over the holidays because if I didn't get a head start I'd be miserable. I looked at the math curriculum and problems online and started tearing up and realised I had a problem so I looked up math anxiety and came across your TEDtalk. ABSOLUTE LIFESAVER! I actually understand things and don't feel like a failure anymore! I was getting worried that I'd suck so badly at math I'd not be able to get the careers I wanted.

    In my math III honors class the other day a kid was completely lost on what we were doing and our teacher, who feels that because we are honors student she shouldn't have to really explain things to us dismissively told him, "Go home and look up the unit on Khan Academy." And, I being the loud mouth helpful person I am shouted, "NO! GO TO YAY MATH ON KZread!" He listened to me. He is no longer lost in class.

    teh BOX Really? You said when one finishes "collage" they will wonder when they need this. Well, most jobs that one goes to college for, you need math.

  • @VanillaDazzle

    @VanillaDazzle

    teh BOX Anything science related (nurse, doctor, lab tech, Occupation Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech therapy, engineering etc) Anything business related (financial analyst, accountant, sales, business analyst etc) Teaching elementary school Social workers could need it for research... Computer programming and IT basically every job that everyone I know who went to college has, needs math... Plus 2 other points: with your spelling and grammar, you better be good at math and math also develops your brain behind the scene for critical thinking and problem solving. This is why any employer would want you if you go into advanced math studies.

  • @VanillaDazzle

    @VanillaDazzle

    I guess if you want to live with your parent until you're in your 30s or even 40s... jobs that don't require math are low paying, usually and they require strong writing and communications skill usually. You and teh BOX don't seem to know how to spell. Please tell me what you guys do or plan to do that doesn't require math or English and pays a living wage? Bartender? Stripper? Well then you don't need any college but there's an early retirement for a lot of those jobs that pay well without actual skills. Unless you can manage to get a union job but most of them require math skills.

    -- One of my biggest life regrets was not discovering my love for math while in high school. I had horrible teachers that loved to embarrass and shame students. It was VERY discouraging to walk into their classrooms every day, knowing you didn't have the answers they wanted ... because they didn't properly teach you to find them. I took Algebra five ... that's 5 ... times in college before I met a teacher that taught visually and made the subject fun. I would always make it to the Quadratic Formula section of Algebra and withdraw because I just didn't get it. Because of his approach, I not only understood Algebra but went on to have the second highest grade in the class. I SO WISH I would have had a teacher like this guy! It's amazing how easy and fun math can be when you have a teacher possessing an obvious love for math and the students. GREAT TEACHERS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!! Thank you for everything you do! --

    Hi, just wanting to tell you that your videos are fun, transparent, and very helpful! It's Thanksgiving break for me and I have some assignments over solving quadratics and these are definitely helping me for when I wasn't quite understanding it all in class last week. Thanks!

    You should show the class where the quadratic formula comes from and how we derived it. When I found out, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. A lot of people don't realize the math they are doing in class is the same math people people were doing hundreds of years ago.

    Given your example, what if the square root was divisible by 2? do we simplify that by two or leave it alone because its in the radical?

    As an environmental engineering student doing math for the first time in >10 years, this is great...though it is a little but humbling hearing the children shout the answers out before I've got them...
