Loved this. A true filmmaker who gave less of a shit about the awards he won but more about the kind of films he made.

Same with Rear Window and Vertigo. Vincente Minelli won Best Director for Gigi instead of Alfred Hitchcock for Vertigo. Really?!? I haven't seen Gigi, but my mom said it's extremely dated. Vertigo is timeless.

Shame on you, Academy! He never received an Oscar for Best Director: really???!!!
Truth is, they snubbed him over and over again. Vertigo, Psycho, some of the most amazing films ever made, were not awarded. Vertigo is now considered among the greatest films ever made, and in my opinion it is THE greatest. It did not get a single nomination for an Academy Award.

“Vertigo” was nominated for Best Art Direction (now called Production Design) and Best Sound. Lost both to “Gigi” I believe. I wish Bernard Herrmann’s hauntingly beautiful score was nominated at least. People remember “Vertigo” more than “Gigi” anyway.
@laurajones1773

I agree that the score of Psycho should definitely be nominated for Best Original Score considering that it's one of the most iconic scores in cinema history. I think the movie should also be nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Anthony Perkins. By the way, Gigi is released the same year as Vertigo. Vertigo was not even nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. They both went to Gigi. I'm sure many people have seen Vertigo instead of Gigi.

Why do you consider it this good.I found it lacking of script and many other things it honestly isn't that good
It's very telling of just how shallow most of these award's shows are when more than half a century later, these two words are infinitely more memorable than any of the speeches given just last year alone.
>Comes in >Recieeves the awards >Says thank you >Refuses to elaborate >Leaves 🗿
I just noticed that when he walks onto the stage, he's stepping in time with the music. What a guy!
very brilliant Film Director, the "Master of Suspense".
A historic speech, masterfully constructed. A master of both the written and spoken word, could learn from this creative text. Sincere, moving, soulful; a delight to hear. Truly fine oratory which is both appealing and inspiring to the audience. What an impact! It reached the hearts and minds of the hearer. This will be remembered for and decades; no, centuries forward! I myself must say, “Thank you.”
The music when Alfred enters the stage...brings back so many memories of the TV series that he made. Truly a 'Alfred Hitchcock presents' moment.
If he was alive today he cud make movies which are way ahead of OUR time ,instead of us watching movie like Dwayne Johnson crap and marvel Miss you Alferd Hitchcock ,thank you for the amazing movies
Ironic hitchcock have a lots of masterpieces and just won 1 Oscar for best film unbelievable
This speech made me cry
This is a moment when the academy was smaller than the artist.
Before seeing that I tought joe pesci speech for his Oscar Was the shortest lol
It's so awesome to see my two favourite directors, Robert Wise and Alfred Hitchcock, together.
Remember! He's a legend. Doesn't need an Oscar to know how amazing he is. Which is my his movies didn't win awards, because the academy tried to make those other movies famous by losing. Since we all remember his films easily
its MIND-BOGGLING that i have the same number of Oscars that Alfred has.
Robert Wise and Alfred Hitchcock. Two awesome filmmakers.
No.1 director of all time. SIR HITCHCOCK❤️💯
It's good to see a smile on his face :)
of course he is a man of few words. a thank you is all you really need. i love how the band was ready for a short speech.
One of the most inspiring people who ever lived
One of the most admired man. Absolute kill it!
I can't believe that's all he said. When he won the AFI award, he said a wonderful speech.
He has 5 oscar nominations I think because of this his speech has just 5 words.
Note that this wasn't an award for which several people were nominated. This is an honorary award.
He should have won best director for every single film he's made.
RIP Alfred Hitchcock a brilliant dear and entertaining gentleman 💗🙏💗🙏
The best speeches are always the shortest
A legend is pretty much legendary in everything he did!!
He is CoooooL
Hitchcock was nominated a staggering 5 times for 'Best Director', his only ever win was for his official American film "Rebecca" which was awarded to the producer Selznick instead ofcourse. I just think Hitch was so tired of seeing his own masterful creations be constantly overlooked for more 'Academy friendly topic films'. I think his 'acceptance speech' is not only daringly amusing and representative of his quick witted celebrity self, but a stand testament to simply not caring for it.
it's should be oscar's honor to own such a great master
He would've won a jet ski
i can't believe this chubby guy once existed in our planet. He's a legend
What a ledgend !!!
i think he said "very much indeed" at the end of his speech
Best speech ever!
Greatest acceptance speech yet at the academy
Kubrick won for Best Visual Effects in 1968 for 2001: A Space Odyssey. He is an Oscar winner.
Makes me feel quite bad, but I love the music together with his run...
I've known for ages that he just said "thank you" and walked off. never knew that the music cut him off saying something else. now i'm more confounded than ever.
Best speech ever! "Thank You."
He's so adorable!
short and sweet
Thank You Sir. ( To Alfred)
Thankyou indeed.
Non ha mai ricevuto un Oscar.. uno dei più grandi registi del cinema non lo ha mai ricevuto! Ci rendiamo conto?
Best speech ever...
Il miglio regista di tutti i tempi!!! Grazie a te Hitchcock
Best speech ever
Alfred Hitchcock is a legend period
His thank you was his speech.
He really said it all!
What a legend,
When he walked in with that look, my heart went "Oooooh, boy. Here we go! :D "
It was like his cameos in his films.
that floor was never washed again!!!
Ah.. he has such a way with words
Thank You
I LOVE HIM.

Now I know where Sgt. Hightower got inspiration for his speech.
you'd hope so but nobody ever does. he's probably made the best acceptance speech in history.
Class act, sir!!

Real Genius ♥
godly.

@BrightProductions It's the opinion of many film historians, that Hitchcock's "Thank You" was really his way of saying "F You", for AMPAS never having given him an Oscar for Best Director or Best Picture.. He also won the AFI's Lifetime Achievement award in 1979.. do a search for "Hitchcock Lifetime Achievement" and you'll find the video here.. he gave a much longer acceptance speech, seated at their banquet.. my sense is that he WAS truly Thankful to the AFI..
KickAssWrestlingShow: Actually, Kubrick did win ONE Oscar although it was not for directing. He won his only Oscar for Best Visual Effects for the film "2001: A Space Odyssey." The fact that the incomparable Alfred Hitchcock never won an Oscar for Best Director is a shame. Stanley Kubrick never winning an Oscar for Best Director is a shame as well. Both of them were among the best directors in the history of cinema and definitely deserved this honor.
Good for him.
Well said
Hitch was too good for the academy
pienso que mas que un honor para el fue un insulto como siempre actuó con clase y pulcritud
Why can't imagine Robert Wise and Alfred Hitchcock walk whitout any music on the background
he said "very much indeed" but yeah, he was a fucking genius
What a lad
